cliffy Posted November 22, 2016 Report Posted November 22, 2016 What are the four most often neglected hoses in a vintage Mooney? :-) :-) What four hoses may have manufacturing dates back in the 60s? :-) :-)
MB65E Posted November 22, 2016 Report Posted November 22, 2016 Flap supply hose, mp hose behind the panel, f/p hose behind panel, O/p hose behind panel. Followed by anything else in the cabin? -Matt
Yetti Posted November 22, 2016 Report Posted November 22, 2016 What are the four neglected or most critical? I would say wheel cylinder brake lines.
Yetti Posted November 22, 2016 Report Posted November 22, 2016 Critical are the oil and gas line in the cabin area behind the panel.
carusoam Posted November 23, 2016 Report Posted November 23, 2016 Hydraulic return lines in my C were replaced upon failure... Its oil lines to the oil cooler under the cowl were replaced at about the same time. With fire sleeves that time... Short fuel hoses that connect the tanks get replaced when crusty and brittle... small rubber hoses that connect the cylinder heads to the oil sump. I don't know about all Mooneys, could have just been my M20C.... Anything rubber that is forty years old carrying oil or fuel deserves to be replaced... Best regards, -a-
cliffy Posted November 26, 2016 Author Report Posted November 26, 2016 Sorry have been gone for a few days My guess? 1 Hyd flap supply line from reservoir to pump (just did one- 3Q63 date code) 2 Flap actuator hose fwd to first B nut under rear seat 3 Fuel Pressure line behind instrument panel 4 Manifold pressure line behind instrument panel #1 can be rerouted to avoid kink as it goes through the steel tubing framework. It doesn't have to follow the original path.
outermarker Posted December 2, 2017 Report Posted December 2, 2017 When replacing the oil lines how you get to the middle two Adel clamps which hold the oil lines to the firewall? Is there a special Phillips head screwdriver out there? I can't even see the nuts if I was able to get to the screws. Putting all the clamps back on seems impossible to do without removing the engine. Advice? The oil lines are dated but not an issue......yet. I was replacing the defroster hoses as the next project when I took a look at the oil lines and began to wonder, "how do I do that?"
Yetti Posted December 3, 2017 Report Posted December 3, 2017 What model Mooney are we talking about here? Are you talking the lines inside the cabin?
outermarker Posted December 3, 2017 Report Posted December 3, 2017 A 65' E and the oil lines going to/from the oil cooler.
carusoam Posted December 4, 2017 Report Posted December 4, 2017 OM, got any pictures? Chances are, your oil lines are no longer original. A hint will be if they are covered in reddish silicone rubber... The hardware is probably updated. A hint will be if it is shiny SS... post some pics when you get time. Best regards, -a-
