great news and i love the BIG X at the end of the runway in case anyone is not aware that those diggers mean it is not a rough strip :)  Well done airport manager.  NOW can I borrow him please for EGTR, we SO need someone like that.

So, Elstree looks like asphalt over concrete squares. Is it bumpy with cracks?

Even some well maintained commercial runways have their quirks - LYH has a hump on the first third and last third.  I don't know how many times I've hit the speedbump and have almost become momentarily airborne whether taking off or landing in either direction.  Eventually I just started blaming the runway on everything including my crappy landings :-)

I remember a Continental pilot after takeoff:

Pilot:  Tower, I'd like to make a PIREP.

Tower:  Go ahead.

Pilot:  There was a small, smooth spot on runway 4L about two thirds down the runway.

Tower:  (silence).

Fat chance. I'm betting the airport manager in his Fairchild will be.

Not if he tries to fly with one of your ladies.
