MyNameIsNobody Posted September 13, 2016 Report Posted September 13, 2016 You two take jabs at an Academy Award Winning Director and I reply and then you take the "high road". Funny. I didn't personally attack an actor because of what you perceive as "his and the Rights" politics. You both did. You will always get a counter-point from me when YOU make it political. ALWAYS. A fine line between debating and rebutting comments and "perception of arguing". I guess some just like to have total agreement with their position and are "surprised" when others don't share their opinion. That is now "argumentative" in today's world...and in yours. Quote

N201MKTurbo Posted September 13, 2016 Report Posted September 13, 2016 In November of 1987 I was at a football party when the news broke into the game and said an airplane had crashed at Stapleton Airport. They said what runway it was on and I knew how to get there. You had to go past the entrance to the Rocky Mountain Arsenal, but it was before the main gate. I left the party and drove to the fence, I got there before the newsies, I was about 150 feet from the airplane. I watched the rescue people pull all the bodies out of the plane. It was Continental 1713. At the time I got to know the man (BJ Blackerby) who ran the simulators at Continental and I helped him maintain them in exchange for sim time and I just liked hanging out there. I worked for Raytheon Data Systems who supplied most of the computers for the airlines at the time, so I had credentials to get into the maintenance facility un-escorted which made it easy to hang out there. After the crash I got to talk to the last guys who worked on the plane and to the check pilot who gave both pilots their last line check. Plus I got to listen to all scuttle butt from all the folks at the airline. When the NTSB held the hearing I took the time off work and attended the whole hearing. It lasted 4 days. The man presiding over the hearing was Joseph Nall, who the annual safety report is named after. The bottom line of this story is that the NTSB people at this hearing were the most professional public servants I have ever met. They had most of the facts before the hearing and just wanted to make sure they got as much information as possible. I was appalled when I saw the trailer for the movie and how the NTSB was portrayed. 3 Quote

I was appalled when I saw the trailer for the movie and how the NTSB was portrayed. I have a very similar story. In November, 1985, my best friend was killed in a horrific mid-air in Teterboro's airspace. To make a long story short, the controller lost track of my friend, who was flying a Warrior with two friends onboard, and a Falcon 10, which was owned by NABISCO and being ferried from Morristown to Teterboro. The controller sequenced the Falcon into the Warrior and both went down in flames. A few people on the ground were also killed. I was subpoenaed by the NTSB to appear at the hearing six months later to act as a character witness into my friends flying habits. The board members (I remember one of them being Richard Rodriguez) were very polite, very professional and made me feel at ease. It was clear to me that they wanted to get at the facts. Hank Posted September 13, 2016 Report Posted September 13, 2016 Why are any of you surprised that a Hollywood movie lacks realism and portrays anyone from the Federal government as a nincompoop? It's been happening since at least ET by my personal recollection. I'd say it started sometime after Mr. Roberts, say when the Flower Children started working there? Seen any positive portrayals of government bureaucrats since then? TV? Movies? Me, neither . . . 1 Quote
MyNameIsNobody Posted September 13, 2016 Report Posted September 13, 2016 I would just like to personally thank all that have stepped forward to show support for the NTSB. That took a lot of courage. Thanks for setting the record straight. Your input has been recorded and will serve you well in the future. Like the NTSB. You know our motto "Getting to the facts". Like the FBI, CIA, EPA, DOT, DOD...We are ALL about the facts. Thank you. Quote

cliffy Posted September 13, 2016 Report Posted September 13, 2016 They had months to cogitate over what you had seconds to decipher, that's just the way it is. You wanna be a pilot then accept the reality! FAR 91.3 Quote
