I am pretty sure a retractable step can be converted to a fix step and a step can be added to any plane without one. Check with your local MSC to be sure and for approximate cost. That should open a whole lot more Mooneys too you and you can then just factor in any additional costs for any step work.

The statement "needs tanks sealed"will keep everyone away but from your experience in aircraft maintenance and contacts it is a piece of gooey, skicky, cake.

N39397 someone here can pull all the info on the computer from the internet.

Go Mooney !!!

I'm 5'6" so my seat is pulled up close and there are miles of room behind me. Bob will tell you about all the women he has carried in his E.

That sounds like a great deal.  Tank reseal doesn't have to be super expensive.

This is one of my favorite planes that is for sale. Only because my m20 E was at the same airport. Minden NV . I bought mine one year ago ( hey it must be Christmas )

This would be a plane for me at $20,000 . That's what I'd shoot for and then upgrade it. Asking $35,000, LASAR has it on their website.as you know LASAR will let you post Mooneys for sale without any endorsement from them  .. 6 hours SMOH ,which is why the price is so high .

form the ad:

Comments: Plane has been in IRAN for last several years. I have lost my Medical and I must sell the aircraft now. call my I/A for details At 925-822-5010 his name is BobHighlights: Mooney Super 21 M20E Great flying project Needs paint or finish polishing and some minor interior work

Carl, the guy kinda sounded like he was hooked on a long body and, although there are longer bodied Mooney other than the F and G's, we all know that size doesn't matter, it's what you do with it....

For me and the kind of flying I do, which ressembles Cody's planned flying, the E is the perfect plane. I sometimes refer to it as the Porsche 911 Carrera of the Mooney fleet. Sure there are two «seats» in the back where you can fit two people for short trips, but what you really bought it for is it's super handling and speed...

That's probably why they called it the Super 21! :D

Rear seat passengers are very comfortable in my M20E. Remember, cabin width and height is the same in all M20s. Leg room in the back row depends mostly upon the inseam length of the PIC. Mine is 30" and my passengers always report that they have plenty of room. and since all M20s share the same door and seat height dimensions, novices will find getting in and getting out of any of our birds challenging.

(Our friend sitting behind Nancy is 5'8" or 5'9".)

A few questions to go with that...

Is it in France?  How close to France are you?

If you are in the US.  Buying a plane that far away is going to cost many dollars.

It's in France. I am the closest you can get in the US to France. I could ferry it...but is it legit?

Posted

1) go visit it first.

2) start the negotiations...

2) have PPI done next.

3) if it passes those tests, then consider completing buying it.

4) expect that the owner may say no to you.  He has negotiation skills too.

that requires at least one visit before the ball starts rolling.  Do you have money to travel to see it and organize a PPI?

it may be legit for somebody, in France.

This is the way I would approach it. It is to good to be true, so it is probably not.

Then I'd call Philippe in France .

Then maybe call the FAA , this is registered with an US  N number. but to a company in the UK.

SOUTHERN AIRCRAFT CONSULTANCY INC TRUSTEE
Street TOWN FARM POUND LANE DITCHINGHAM
  BUNGAY
City SUFFOLK State
County   Zip Code NR352DN
Country UNITED KINGDOM

Southern Aircraft Consultancy is the leading professional aircraft registration company in the UK.

We specialise in providing Individual Trust Agreements to non-US citizens to enable them to legally register their aircraft on the American "N" register.

We will provide you with a fully Approved Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Trust Agreement and all supporting documentation. Our Trust Agreement is individually drawn up for you and your aircraft, providing you and your aircraft with complete security.

Well I just answered my next question. Why a trust?  Then call Southern aircraft consultancy about title transfer ( this may be easier than I originally thought)

If I were doing this.I would fly my mechanic over there to inspect it.You ,however,  have an aviation background deeper then mine, I would also need a ferry pilot, you can do this yourself too.

I would find an aviation attorney to handle the escrow and the transfer.

Is this a scam ?

I bought a telescope yesterday on Craig's list . I went and checked it out . then i said "when its in my car Ill pay you."  He said "ok . but don't get in the car,I'll put it in for you."

We both though we were scamming each other and were very cautious. It work out well.

There are scammers , but they usually disappear when you won't send a shipping fee or a deposit and you want to inspect the plane.

The question is really ,how is the main spar, any corrosion etc. It is far away. You don't have to worry about any one else buying it before you.At least here in the US ,You are the closest.

I looked at this plane two years ago. It was a nightmare.  I paid an IA buddy to drive 10 hours one way with me to look at it.  It had been described as good condition, no fuel leaks, hangared... The seller was late showing up and made us wait.  As soon as we started looking under the wings we could clearly see fuel stains all along the spar, landing gear wells, and belly but it wasn't dripping or smelling. The interior was worn but serviceable and the panel wasn't too bad. But clearly the plane had been sitting outside for many months. Every steel part and fastener was rusted.  My buddy discovered an inspection AD not completed in the tail section. He spent an hour with the local shop foreman going over the paperwork and signing it off. When it was ready to fly they pushed it out on the ramp and fueled it up. Then we had to wait three hours possibly more for his demonstration pilot to show up.  We should have walked then. Finally the guy arrives. We walk out to the plane and I climb up and open the door. The wave of fuel vapors that rolled out from the cockpit almost pushed me off the wing! To this day my buddy still laughs uproariously at the mention of it. He said it looked like I got hit in the head with a baseball bat! I was not amused. We closed the door and walked - right past the demonstration pilot and to our car. The seller was friendly but nothing more than a glorified used car salesman. The plane had potential but was entirely a project. I wouldn't trust a single thing the seller said about it.

Run, don't walk away from this.  Guy wound up with a $15K squawk list 2 years ago.  Airplane hasn't flown since.  I wouldn't pay a dime more for it than scrap value.

Posted

What is the scrap value of the instrument panel?  Or is that not working either?

A plane like that is worth around 50AMU if everything is working as advertised.

Back out the PPI issues of 15AMU for AW things.

The value is now more like 35 AMU.

Scrap value for my non AW m20C about 6 years ago was 18AMU (actual money received)

The real issue appears to be this C the used car sales guy approach that everything was in good condition and price was 50AMU and it wasn't.

Client arrived after driving a really long way to find 15 AMU of projects he was not made aware of.

scrap value is still a lot of money.  Unless that is what you are getting for selling your plane...

I am taken in by the paint, instrument panel and the fact that it has an IO360.  Those would have taken more than 30AMU to add to my C.  Of course the pedigree on who did all that work needs to be known as well.  If it was all done by a car mechanic and not a proper A&P.  Keep the track shoes ready...!

Those 30 AMU were better spent on a different plane to meet my current requirements.

30AMU not spent on upgrades + 18 AMU scrap sale = 48 AMU to put forward towards your favorite new to you Mooney.

The nice thing about having Mooney experience already...

It makes buying the next one a much more comfortable experience.

Advise me if I missed something.  That was a lot to review and get close to being correct.  I probably missed a few things.

Best regards,

Glafaille said it was sold, I wonder who has it and if he is on here.

I have a similar plane that is awesome, but my children's inheritance is going into it.

And I love flake.

Scrap value means value of the parts and materials.  A friend junked a 310 he couldn't sell, scrap on that was less than $20K, and that's with a pair of engines, a 530 and a 430, and way more aluminum.  I suspect you'd spend way, way more than that aircraft was ever worth to restore it to any sort of serviceability.  Like I said, $15K worth of squawks before being stored outside not flying for two years.  I'm amazed the guy could find a pilot who would fly the thing.  I wouldn't.

Oh, and the owner was indeed a used car salesman.

Good luck to the OP.  There are really nice aircraft out there for you.  This just isn't one of them.  Sorry to the guy who one to see it.  I was tempted, but good sense got the better of me.  I don't see it on Trade a Plane anymore, so maybe he conned someone into buying it.
