Houman
Replacing the seal on the storm window today and noticed the hinges are a bit dirty and rusty, what would you recommand for cleaning them ? I was thinking of using either Brake Cleaner or some other surface rust cleaner... Thanks for suggestions.
Shadrach
Brake cleaner will likely destroy the widow. I would first try soaking it in white vinegar for several hours. Then maybe move to more aggressive (scotchbrite) methods. You should be prepared to polish out any scratches. -or- you could just leave it as is. It's hard to see the stains when the hinges are in place.
MyNameIsNobody
I have a better condition replacement with good hinges I would part with. PM me if interested with address and I will send pics.
N201MKTurbo
Take them off, use a wire wheel to clean them up and then paint them. Or buy new ones.
N201MKTurbo
BTW don't loose the hardware, it is hard to get.
Shadrach
Edit. I thought you were talking about the window. My bad. Clean them up and have them rechromed!
Houman
Thanks for the suggestions, I ended up using a very fine sand paper on the hinges once they were removed and they came out as good as new... I like the idea of painting them, but it will have to wait, I already installed them back...
