bradp Posted November 10, 2015 Report Posted November 10, 2015 Hi guys I noted on my last flight that my 40-year odd KX170B has suddenly decided to indicate off by exactly 90-degrees (i.e. I'm on the 180-radial inbound and the NAV2 is indicating I'm on the 090-radial inbound). Picks up VORs no problem. Just odd that it's off by exactly 90-deg. I'm thinking that this will probably mean a replacement box but I just found it odd. Will play in to whatever I decide for WAAS upgrade etc thanks b Quote
Browncbr1 Posted November 10, 2015 Report Posted November 10, 2015 what model indicator do you have and how old is it?... I just replaced one of mine that was super old showing about 10 degrees off VOT... It was an old KI-201, which I understood is really difficult to repair.. apparently, there is a graphite disc inside that is very brittle... I found a lightly used KI-208 for $230 with the plug... if you have an older cdi, you may want to bench test the KX170.. If it checks out, then just go get a 208 rather than bother repairing an older indicator. Quote
N201MKTurbo Posted November 10, 2015 Report Posted November 10, 2015 The KX170 sends detected nav audio to the indicator, all decoding is done in the indicator. This means the radio is OK. It is probably a loose connection. I would let a shop take a stab at it before I trashed it. Quote
