I guarantee that if a 1977 M20J owner sat in my 1964 C model he would say, "Holy crap, this thing is old!  I'm glad my 201 isn't a vintage Mooney!"

Posted

I sense some J-envy...

Not at all!  I could have bought a 201 when I got my C, but I just love the simplicity of the C and it fits my mission perfectly.  (Can you say Johnson Bar, carburetor, and hydraulic flaps? :) )

It is odd, though, that a 1977 M20J 201 has more in common with a 1997 M20J Allegro than it does with my M20C that was built only 13 years prior.

I was referring to the OP who has now started two separate threads on why J's should be vintage.

Sorry, I hadn't made that connection.

I'll stick with my opinion that anything more than a short body with Johnson Bar is elitist.  Compared to us, you're ALL modern Mooneys!  :)

Another progressive trying to change the rules...

Clearly defined what a Vintage Mooney IS.  It is NOT a J.

I have no need to wander into Modern Mooney threads for same reason I don't test drive a 911...

I don't want what I don't know.

Well by FAA definition my F is a technologically advanced aircraft.

Moving map GPS and autopilot.

I agree wholeheartedly!!

New changes coming...

Modern Mooney = Composite airframe

Classic Mooney = Aluminum and steel tube airframe. Comes in three lengths to fit the size of your back seaters.

Modern Mooney Powerplant = Fuel injected

Classic Mooney Powerplant = Carbureted

Extremist Mooney Powerplant = TC'd or TN'd with Scimitar shapes, composite construction and FIKI devices.

Modern Mooney pilot = IR, commercial, CFI

Classic Mooney pilot = VFR

Extremist Mooney pilot = ATP, CFII

Dare to be extreme!

Hum, I'm a very senior citizen (past the biblical 3 score and 10), with a vintage, make that antique (built 50 years ago this month) M20E.

Even so, is annual time and I'm replacing the engine control cables and the windows. I might just paint her next year. If that bothers any J jockeys they can keep it to themselves. It's my heirs' money I'm spending.

Maybe the answer should be if your Mooney was made after you were, you own a modern Mooney!

I may start a thread about wing inspection panels to see how long it takes Chris to post yet another picture of his instrument panel...

I am amazed (I think your cool Chris that's why I bag on you) that Chris found a reason on this thread to post yet another picture of his incredible panel. I think I have seen your panel more than my own? Haha!

Somebody here shamed me into restraint re pics of my modest panel. B26, OTOH has no shame.

When I read the title I thought the OP was sarcastically referring to McStealth holding us hostage for days about some "big announcement." ... and the mundane nature of recent discussion? I could be wrong?

I was, things don't always translate to the Internet well.

His panel may be up to date, but those socks and shorts are from the 70s, time to upgrade the apparel

I'm really trying to turn over a new leaf. But, since I can't guilt you guys into posting your beautiful panels, maybe I can post pictures of images I know you all love to see...

That's the only monitor on my panel I want to post...looking forward to knowing what all those numbers mean. :)  The installer had to change the hp setting from 300hp to 180hp.  :)
