Time for new engine

First break in flight today. Rings may have been broken in at factory run in as CHTs at 75% 3500 ft full rich were were 279-297-312-274. #3 reads higher because JPI probe is piggy backed onto factory probe.  After 2 hours I closed cowl flaps and CHTs were 325-331-350-312 at 75%.

Can I ask what was your iron level in the oil before and at the time when you decided to go for new engine? I have A3B6 and I'd like to compare.

Thanks.

Wow, yeah it's high.  I resealed my prop for 650$,  paid 2 grand to the IA for the two weeks it took me and the motor was 2k cheaper 3 years ago.  But umm, yeah.  I drive a 7,000$ car. This is 6 times that and it uses a quart of oil in 6 hours.

My test flight yesterday yielded nothing both the mechanical and electronic gauges were rock steady no 10 to 20psi fluctuations. :(

I'm glad it was steady after 45 minutes of flying but I wanted to find or eliminate something and I achieved neither.

I have new springs and balls coming for the oil pressure regulator.

I will contact EI to see if they have seen or heard of this before and if it has been the sending unit.

Did you resolve these fluctuations or maybe they never came back?

thanks!

Either you're joking, or you don't understand what's being discussed. An annual inspection does not include engine overhaul, and overhauling an engine (or even just one cylinder) isn't cheap.

Oh I think he does stinky
