Marauder Posted July 18, 2015 Report Posted July 18, 2015 For you Pilot users on iOS, Garmin just released 7.4. Has a logbook function, NRST function with an actual line drawn and some additional features. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Quote
DanM20C Posted July 18, 2015 Report Posted July 18, 2015 It's about time they added the log book function. My old 196 did that 10 years ago. I just downloaded the update, the log book feature is buggy and not overly intuitive. It doesn't pull my aircraft information in that is already stored in garmin pilot. I'm sure they will polish this up in the next few weeks. The nearest is a big improvement as is the measuring tool. In terms of bang for your buck garmin pilot is hard to beat. 1 Quote

I'm willing to bet it was released in time for Oashkosh and we will find other bugs. Have you tried the new NRST function? Can't figure out how to go back to the original flight plan if I use it. PTK Posted July 18, 2015 Report Posted July 18, 2015 I'm not a huge fan of playing with an ipad when I'm flying. I do think it's of great utility during preflight planning. Having said that with the advent of the iPhone 6 I've been running it during flight. I've used both foreflight and garmin pilot. I prefer garmin pilot by far! It is extremely flexible with very shallow menus which is exactly how a flying app should be. Quote

ArtVandelay Posted July 18, 2015 Report Posted July 18, 2015 Tried it today, pretty cool, but how do I initialize the logbook with my current totals, I guess I could create a dummy entry, but is there a better way? Quote
Marauder Posted July 18, 2015 Author Report Posted July 18, 2015 Hit the NRST button again and it goes away. That works if you don't pick one of those airports and hit direct. I found if you do that, it overrides the flight plan. I did find out how to get it back. Hit the CLEAR button after you hit the D (direct) button. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk 1 Quote

As far as I can tell there isn't a place to enter history. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Quote
Piloto Posted July 18, 2015 Report Posted July 18, 2015 Marauder How do you download it for a Samsung S3 cellphone? How do you enable the function? I had this on my Aera 560 and love it. I am happy with my Garmin Pilot and would like to add this. José Quote

Out west, it is pretty dreary. Haha... 1 Quote

Oscar Avalle Posted July 18, 2015 Report Posted July 18, 2015 I downloaded it and tried it out. It is really nice. It integrates nicely with my Garmin 750 and GDL 88. I did not like the logbook function that much. Would just be nice to be able to integrate the jepp charts into it, instead of having to switch to Jeppview. Quote
flyboy0681 Posted July 18, 2015 Report Posted July 18, 2015 Meanwhile, based upon the screen shots that were posted here, it appears that Garmin has still not addressed an issue that I reported to them over two years ago. If you notice, the color of the screen labels are dark blue set against the black background. It is absolutely impossible to see those blue labels in a bright, sunlight cockpit. Prior to the blue they has used white and it was very easy to make out. When I first noticed it at the time I immediately wrote to them and the reply they sent to me was that the issue would be taken care of immediately by their developers. I guess adding stupid features like an interface to the Garmin watch is more important (eyes rolling). Quote
ArtVandelay Posted July 19, 2015 Report Posted July 19, 2015 I never notice a problem reading the blue labels, I use sun shades to keep direct sun off of me and the iPad. But I do use the Garmin flitecharts instead of FAA govt charts, I find them much easier to read. 1 Quote
