chrisk Posted May 12, 2015 Report Posted May 12, 2015 Use tax is one reason I will not be buying a new aircraft or buying a corporate owned one. Texas has an exception for casual sales. Basically if you buy it from an individual, not in the business of aircraft sales, no use tax is owed. 2 Quote

mike_elliott Posted May 12, 2015 Report Posted May 12, 2015 Jesus. What else do I have to add to my spreadsheet I missed? Maybe I should just light $100K on fire. Now here is a guy who "gets it" about plane ownership! 3 Quote
Marauder Posted May 12, 2015 Report Posted May 12, 2015 Jesus. What else do I have to add to my spreadsheet I missed? Maybe I should just light $100K on fire. My general rules about plane ownership are as follows: 1) Everything will cost twice as much as I think it should 2) Everything will take twice as long as I am told 3) The size of an airplane part is indirectly proportional to its cost And finally; 4) My wife was correct (although I won't admit it to her face) when she said "It would have been cheaper if you had a cocaine habit" Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk 6 Quote
kortopates Posted May 13, 2015 Report Posted May 13, 2015 I went through the sales tax exemption process in CA too as Jerry described. But this was over a dozen years ago with an aircraft purchase price of over $200K - so I was very motivated to make the effort for 8% savings. My purchase was entirely for personal use so I followed a different protocol which kept the aircraft out of state for over 3 months. The rules have since changed and as far as I know the exemption is only good for business use today. However anyone interested in this only needs to go to the CA BOE website and read up to find out if there is anyway they pull it off. Well worth it if you can.
