Aviator Posted May 4, 2015 Report Posted May 4, 2015 My KI 256 Attitude Indicator is acting squirrelly and has become unreliable. It is time to repair or replace. it would be helpful to know what options Mooney Space members have taken in similiar situations, Costs, downtime and your overall satisfaction with the "fix" would also be helpful. Thanks for any information you can provide.
Piloto Posted May 4, 2015 Report Posted May 4, 2015 A new KI-256 will cost you $10,000 vs overhauling yours $1,050 at Century Instruments http://www.centuryinstruments.net/Price_List-July-2014/Price_List-July_2014.pdf I had good experience with them. Prompt and good service. Anyone that publish their prices has the experience of fixing them. José
Oldguy Posted May 4, 2015 Report Posted May 4, 2015 Just had my KG-258 overhauled by Bob Bramble at AeroLab Aviation in Florida. Turnaround was a week and it works better than it ever had before. http://www.aerolabaviation.com/ José said it right - rebuild rather than buy (unless you are putting the money towards a piece of glass). FlyDave Posted May 4, 2015 Report Posted May 4, 2015 +1 for Bob Bramble. He rebuilt my KI-256 earlier this year. Not the cheapest but excellent service!
dlmorris Posted May 4, 2015 Report Posted May 4, 2015 Suggestion: Buy a second KI-256 on eBay. and keep it on the shelf for the next failure (it will happen). Swap it out and send the other back for overhaul. Minimal downtime and you don't send Honeywell a dime. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

The bearings die from sitting...
Aviator Posted May 4, 2015 Author Report Posted May 4, 2015 Looks like overhaul is best option for me at this time. Glass would be nice but budget won't allow at this time. Thanks for the comments.
Mooney_Allegro Posted May 9, 2015 Report Posted May 9, 2015 I used Bob Bramble in Sarasota. He's great. Cost $1700 I think 5 years ago. My KI-256 has lasted about 600 hours, and 5 years. It's about time to get it overhauled again.
Alan Fox Posted May 9, 2015 Report Posted May 9, 2015 If you go used get Mod 4 or a serial # greater than 10000
