My plane is going in for annual next month, and I was considering sending the Garmin 330 in for the ES upgrade at that time.  That will give me the "out" function to meet the mandate, but not the "in."  Since I have a GDL 69, an active traffic system, and Stratus (for 'in"), I don't really think I need to add the "in" capacity via a GDL 88.

Am I missing something?

From what I understand, is that if you have the out function, the ipad will display all transponder traffic. If you dont have out, you will only be able to see aircraft with "out".

Once the "out" function if activated with the Garmin ES upgrade you will receive full ADS-B 'IN" on your portable receiver. I do remember however that Stratus suppresses some targets very near your own ship as part of THEIR software function. You really need to verify this, but otherwise, you will see all traffic in the sky that ATC currently sees.

This is correct, the ES will light up your "hockey puck" (service volume) so the Stratus will provide you ALL traffic targets. Otherwise, you'll be mooching off of other ABS-B Out equipped A/C's as they pass by, mostly airliners who zoom by pretty quick and may leave dated info behind and a false sense of security.

I did the same thing. I'm installing a 330ES to replace my KT-76 and didn't opt for the GDL 88 either. Like you, I'll use my iPad mini / Stratus for traffic. I haven't heard great things about traffic displayed on a 530/430 which is what I have. Now if I had a GTN750, I would reconsider.

Does the Stratus have a TargetTrend feature?  If not then the GDL 39D would be the order of the day for the most situational traffic awareness used in conjunction with Garmin Pilot.

If you already have the 330 the upgrade will cost you $1400 +/- a few dollars...I just had it done a couple weeks ago.

I have a target trend feature on both FlyQ and WIngX using a Sagetech. I think the stratus with Foreflight does also, Ill check it tomorrow (don't use this combo much)

Just got the Navworx ADS 600 BG with the certified WAAS installed. I am quite happy with it. It is the easiest install and does not tie you to the Garmin only equipment and software. The external antenna for In and Out is a big improvement over the Dual 170 Portable ADSB reciever I have been running.

Did it working with my IA so the cost was minimal. Very simple install. Jusy mounted the unit remotely on the rear wall of the hat shelf. Antennas for GPS and UAT. Power wires to unit. One indicator light for the pannel. Their Transmon connector that simply clamps around the coax out of my mode C transpomder plus simple three wire hook up to wifi module that gets attached to the hat shelf near the unit. RS 232 port and three wire hook up for programing the unit with your PC. And thats it.

Does it shows weather on the G430/530?

How about interfacing with Aspen products?

Posted

Yes if you order it with the ARNC communication option it will interface with both the 430 and Aspen and Garmin 480. For some reason it can not interface with the Garmin 650 yet. Not sure why unless it is one of Garmins little tricks to keep users tied to only their products.

My Navworx works great with Wing X and I am part of a Beta test group for an upcomng FlyQ release that will work with Navworx.

The Navworks website lists all the other software and displays it is compatable with.
