Picked up my plane from the avionics shop on Saturday with a brand new AK451 installed. They told me they had ground tested it and handed me both a registration form and a manual. They already had the sticker from the box put on the registration form so I'll just fill in the remaining details and send it to NOAA SARSAT.

Don't know about any additional testing requirements I'm afraid.

At the risk of sounding naive, I'm intending to ask my A&P to do it either at the Annual or at the 12 mo mark, as I'm assuming that he knows how to do it.

Did some research and it seems to be a lot more complicated than a regular ELT. Check out 406Test.com
