Guitarmaster Posted August 18, 2014 Report Posted August 18, 2014 Hey guys. Just wondering what you all use to wash your planes. Thanks! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Quote
HopePilot Posted August 18, 2014 Report Posted August 18, 2014 Hot water with soap (not sure the brand, but Aircraft Spruce has several for planes). The important part is to finish with Collinite's No. 845 Insulator Wax. Quote
Jeff_S Posted August 18, 2014 Report Posted August 18, 2014 I use a product called Wash-Wax All that you can get from Spruce and many other places. It's a spray-on, wipe-off product that does a great job cleaning the dirt as well as waxing the plane. For the greasy underside there is a Belly Wash version which is more gel-like so it stays where you spray it and cuts through the grease and oil. Quote
Hank Posted August 18, 2014 Report Posted August 18, 2014 Wash-Wax All. Red for the belly, blue for the rest of the plane. Lexus for the windows. Quote
slowflyin Posted August 18, 2014 Report Posted August 18, 2014 Belly Wash for underneath and wash-n-wax (blue) after every flight to get the bugs off. Quote
aaronk25 Posted August 18, 2014 Report Posted August 18, 2014 I stopped washing with water and use a spray wax or spray detailer.....water is messy and a pain, takes longer and most water soaps don't offer much uv protectant. Quote
triple8s Posted August 18, 2014 Report Posted August 18, 2014 Zep aircraft dry wash/polish, gojo without grit for the bugs and belly, plexus for the windows Quote

mulro767 Posted August 18, 2014 Report Posted August 18, 2014 $5 at Walmart. I use it on my cars too. 1 Quote
WardHolbrook Posted August 18, 2014 Report Posted August 18, 2014 I'd be VERY careful using any cleaner that you don't know the pH of.Some of these cleaners can be VERY caustic (pH 12+) and isn't something that I'd be using on aluminum. Also, be very leery of using pressure washers on airplanes. The pressure can spread the lap joints and force caustic cleaner up into the seams. Not something that you'd want to do if you're interested in maintaining a corrosion-free airframe. 1 Quote
cliffy Posted August 18, 2014 Report Posted August 18, 2014 Tide and a window brush and no pressure washer. Keep it wet all the time. Dry right after by flying around the pattern:-) Then I use Mothers car wax. Goes on easy and comes off easier. Been doing for decades. Haven't hurt a plane yet. Quote
ryoder Posted August 18, 2014 Report Posted August 18, 2014 Has anyone used Kozak? Seems like it would be a quick way to clean the leading edges of the wings and cowling in between flights. It's waterless and the solution is right inside the cloth. Quote
