Marauder Posted July 14, 2014 Report Posted July 14, 2014 I just saw the new update for Xavion. Am I reading this right? $9.99 PER MONTH to be able to use the app as it was purchased? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Quote
Mooneymite Posted July 14, 2014 Report Posted July 14, 2014 Yes....check out the AOPA red board. A lot of discontented customers showing up there. Quote
Marauder Posted July 14, 2014 Author Report Posted July 14, 2014 I saw that, too, and thought the same thing. I wondered, though, if I could buy one month's worth of data and just use that more or less indefinitely? I'm not using it for navigation anyway and runways rarely move. The question is will the data still be available even after it is technically expired? Jim I'm not sure. All I know is the Pillsbury Dough Boy ain't getting anymore of my money. App deleted... bnicolette Posted July 14, 2014 Report Posted July 14, 2014 Jim have you tried the Fltplan app for weight and balance? That's what I used for the Mooney and currently use for the Baron. I email it to myself when completed and that way I have a copy of it. 1 Quote
Marauder Posted July 14, 2014 Author Report Posted July 14, 2014 I have the Aviation W&B app so I have no need for it. One thing I never like about Dough Boy's product is he never improved the graphics on it. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Quote

Hank Posted July 15, 2014 Report Posted July 15, 2014 Avare is free, and will run with out-of-date sectionals, charts and plates. Quote
1964-M20E Posted July 15, 2014 Report Posted July 15, 2014 Gee I’m glad I never got on that APP bandwagon. For W&B I use an excel spreadsheet that I found on the internet, originally for a 172, and adapted to fit my Mooney. The only time I used it is when I have three or more people in the plane to make sure I’m good. Flight planning I use skyvector.com and DUATS I usually know where I’m going so I do not need APPS on my phone. I can access DUATS from my phone and file a flight plan in most places and get the weather if not then I just call FSS. I prefer to get the weather online in a graphical presentation. Quote
goncaloareia Posted July 16, 2014 Report Posted July 16, 2014 This is totally unacceptable and I'll start a claim at ITUNES and later at XAVION to get a money refund. They are making me paying 9.99 per month just to get the same features work again. There's NO ADDED value for users outside US (no app charts or other additional data) and even for users at US, this change of the rules is not acceptable at all terms, including in legal terms... I'm sure he will realize the errors in this as did NetFlix when they simply raise their rate by $1 a month. Xavion would have been better off selling or licensing the program to ForeFlight or Garmin Pilot. Then again those companies could develop their own version. Quote
JohnB Posted July 17, 2014 Report Posted July 17, 2014 I think Austin heard all of the outcry and has reduced the price to $0.99 per month as I heard from being bombarded with emails from xavion about this issue. I had chocked up my original xavion purchase as an oh well, there's some wasted money, as it doesn't work in the background, and it's not nearly as helpful as foreflight. This could have been done differently. What would have been nice would to offer a free trial of the package for a while, then if you like it, you pay when the trial period is over. As with most charts, I don't think we mind paying $120 year for whatever we use for our E chart solution. But I have my doubts that xavion will ever be as useful as foreflight, so I'm not looking to spend more money with this product, but I would have tried a free trial. Quote

Over on the red board someone posted Austin's pages long explanation of why he did what he did. The 0.99 cent offer is a short term offer. It will go back to the $10 per month. He claims it is about liability and that if you don't have a current database you could try to land in an emergency at an airport that is now a shopping mall. Of course that didn't bother him when he took our $100. I'm done with the Dough Boy... Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk 1 Quote
goncaloareia Posted July 18, 2014 Report Posted July 18, 2014 I jumped into the discussion at the AOPA forum and here's my latest two cents on this matter: http://forums.aopa.org/showthread.php?p=1744303#post1744303 Quote
Marauder Posted July 18, 2014 Author Report Posted July 18, 2014 Looks the pressure is getting to him. Will keep it at 99 cents for "the foreseeable future". Hope he is far sighted. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Quote
