Guitarmaster Posted July 10, 2014 Author Report Posted July 10, 2014 What is kind of strange is that my original gear knob had the same black line on it. Wonder that was about. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Huh... Never thought about it. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Quote
Marauder Posted July 10, 2014 Report Posted July 10, 2014 Now that I saw your plane again, I would do the 201 windshield before I did the cowl enclosure. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Quote

Ron McBride Posted July 10, 2014 Report Posted July 10, 2014 Here is the panel in my 69F.    I have the Laser cowl closure also, it helps with the looks, cooling and more. Speed is a question, to many other things going on at the same time. 69 and newer came with out the shotgun layout of the earlier planes.  Ron 2 Quote
Guitarmaster Posted July 10, 2014 Author Report Posted July 10, 2014 '68 with a built 351! I have the original matching numbers 302 though Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk 1 Quote

Sabremech Posted July 10, 2014 Report Posted July 10, 2014 Not sure of your timing in doing the cowl enclosure, but I'm working on an cowling mod STC for C,E,F, & G models. It will have round air inlets and also use the 201 spinner. Working on the C & G's first then the E & F's after that. David 1 Quote
Guitarmaster Posted July 10, 2014 Author Report Posted July 10, 2014 David, I am not in a huge hurry and I would be interested in that! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Quote
jetdriven Posted July 10, 2014 Report Posted July 10, 2014 Over two Mooneys, my experience has been that the following 4 mods will get you the best bang for your buck (mph per $): 1.) get rid of unneeded antennas 2.) rig properly by someone who knows what he's doing 3.) cowling closure 4.) flap gap seals BTW, I have also found better cooling withmthe cowl closure and better rate of climb with the flap gap seals. IMO, my 64 C looks good with the cowl closure, but your F may look better with the ARI - but then you'll want the 201 windshield. And dorsal fin. And tail root fairings. And wingtips Dont forget the VOR blade antennas. You saw it here first! from this: Â to this, picked up a knot or maybe even two. 1 Quote
bdjohn4 Posted July 10, 2014 Report Posted July 10, 2014 I just did the ARI mod last month. Much easier to do than expected. Will give you 4-6 knots. Will require a little more work if you want everything to look really pretty. Eddie Kimbro of ARI just came out with a sandwhiched version that is a much cleaner installation.  FYI: I had to remove the LASAR cowl enclosure to put the ARI one on. In fact, the only part of the ARI installation that was difficult was removing the old cherrymax pull rivets from the LASAR cowl enclosure. Note the lack of an oil-cooler opening. We did that mod too (LASAR) and so far oil cooling is fine on the new IO-390 tucked inside.  My vote is ARI. The big expense with the ARI is the 201 Spinner.  John 1 Quote

Guitarmaster Posted July 10, 2014 Author Report Posted July 10, 2014 Without a doubt badass! I just learned what invasion stripes are. Nice touch! 1 Quote
cliffy Posted July 10, 2014 Report Posted July 10, 2014 Round inlets like a LoPresti- Hmmmmmm Nice! 1 Quote
Sabremech Posted July 10, 2014 Report Posted July 10, 2014 Similiar to the LoPresti, but no where near the cost. This has to be reasonable in cost for the vintage Mooney's or there's no real viable reason to do it. Â David 5 Quote

David Lourenco Posted July 14, 2014 Report Posted July 14, 2014 I am buying an engine for my plane, one engine has the cowling and one does not. I do not think my 1975 Mooney M20 F. My plane is in California, so I can't look at it, but I do not think it has cowling. Did the 75 M20 F come with cowling from the factory or not? Quote

phecksel Posted July 15, 2014 Report Posted July 15, 2014 New paint on my 63 C, which had the original paint... what was left of it, plus the lower cowl closure added 7 kts. 1 Quote
