Happy Thanksgiving to all.

Are you flying somewhere over Thanksgiving?  Traveling?  Driving?  Are you planning to stay in town but go flying at some point anyway?

Here's to safe travels and good time with family and friends.

Weather permitting we'll be doing the round robin from FDK to OKV to CBE and back to FDK... all very short trips, but it's really not doable by car...barely doable by plane!  I will likely never consider getting a divorce, aside from loving my wife with all of my heart, I'd never want my kids to need to use an airplane just to make it possible to see everyone on the holidays... ;)  But I'm thankful to be able to do it!!!

I'll be around all weekend if either of you two want to come along an watch be botch some approaches....

I may have to tak youp on that!  It's a busy weekend though, with a lot of family, so we'll have to play it by ear.  If not this weekend - let's make it happen soon.

We flew Delta Air to BOS yesterday since our Mooney is still in pieces. Return to CLT next Tuesday. Did get to 6B6 and the engine shop today. I'll update prop strike drama elsewhere.

We are flying up to the Gold Country in Northern CA.  A beautiful 1.5 hour flight.  The weather is getting a little dodgy so will have to make sure we can stay VFR. Need to get that rating!  Happy Thanksgiving to all our Mooney family.

Staying home and turkey at home - and phew - there is nasty weather rolling over the east for the next 36 hrs.

But Friday I am doing a pilot n paws mission to bring a tiny poodle from Brooklyn to Burlington, with my oldest son.

In Canada, thanksgiving is earlier in the month... so no special plans here, except preparing our next trip, which will be done near New Year's time: CALIFORNIA (from Ottawa Canada)

I'll open a thread about this since we shall be able to visit some Mooneyspace friends along the way.

If we get nice enough weather I'm going to try to fold my Dad into the J for a scenic cruise. One thing I've learned owning this bird is that it is not easy for "less spritely" people to get in and out of. My dad has no strength left in his legs and arthritic shoulders, so just stepping onto the wing and plopping down in the front seat doesn't work for him. Getting out is even harder. We've figured out a way where he sits on the front of the wing and slides backward until he can swing his legs into the front door and then scoot himself into the seat...and reverse the process for egress.

Heaven forbid we should ever need an emergency exit, though.  We would probably both be toast (unless adrenaline kicked him into a higher gear!).

Maybe rent a 172. Better downward vis, slower flying. If  it's "scenic" you want it's hard to beat a high wing, and might be easier for him to get in / out.

Given the situation, it might be more important to get off the ground (while the opportunity is still available) than how you get off the ground.

This is my very first one....my 16 year old son and I are very excited.  I am thinking he might even want to be a vet when he grows up.  This is going to be a terrific day together.  Then lunch in Burlington before we go home.

Dan, I sure will let you know if I am down that way and need a paw-co-pilot.  ..and vice versa please.

Cheers,

Erik

We're enjoying mid-20's wind speed and OAT here in WNC. The trip could not have been flown even with FIKI. At least we won't log any Actual IMC driving back like we did coming here.

I dunno about that. I have fond memories of the takeoff and climb performance one morning when it was 8F and my wife stayed at home.

Mission complete - a mini poodle named Alba has been transported.  Alba from New York - haha like the state capital Albany.

It was a brilliant day with my son saving a little mini dog.  He was just melting holding that dog.  I do think he might grow up to be a vet one day.  See pics of our AM start on an icy taramac and 2F SLIGHT nip in the air - then Alba in flight in a mini crate between our shoulders in the back for easy access to coo - then the drop off.  See that smile on Keith cuddling that mini dog.

It is a really worthwhile activity and I highly recommend it.  We will do it again.

Flew up to Cheyenne from Arlington TX when the weather cleared Tuesday. Spent the night and brought my Dad and step-mom back for Thanksgiving. Looks like I'll have to send them back commercial but I had budgeted for that anyway.  Dad was very happy to be flying GA again. All in all it was worth every penny and more.

By the way, for them to get here door to door, the Mooney was faster than flying commercial.
