Question: Front landing gear touches

Recommended Posts

Check the mooney.com site.  I saw either a sevice bulletin or service instruction that deals with this a few days ago.  Has your nose gear been modified so it has no play upon landing? The additional spacer that is put in play to fix this problem can cause what you are experiencing but the other SB or SI covers how to fix this.

Another thing that might help in the mean time is pressing the brakes while airborne, prior to retracting the gear. This will stop the rolling motion of the tires before they are stored, thus eliminating any rubbing noise.

Adding to the thread creep: I just listened to the Mike Busch webinar on tires, and he recommends over inflating by 10% of the POH numbers. He says that the POH numbers are assuming an unweighted tire, and a little over inflation is harmless, while under inflation is the worst thing you can do for tire life/reliability.

That's interesting.  On my J model the nose gear tire pressure specification is 49 ft. lbs.  I think that the mains are either 30 or 35 ft. lbs., though.  I wonder why the change between the E and the J?  My counterweighted engine might be a bit heavier.  Maybe that's it?

Jim

My F the nosewheel pressure is also 49 psi.
