Casper Labs oil filter adapter

No the one you posted is the regular one which I already have; where the filter mounts in a horizontal position.  For the one I posted, the filter is mounted vertical.  So when you do an oil change, you can poke a hole in the filter to vent and let the oil drain back into the engine.  That way when you remove the filter  theoretically, you shouldn't make a mess.....

I wanted to replace my screen with filter since I bought the plane, and initially considered an Airwolf remote. For space and other reasons I finally bought and installed the ECI angled adapter. From my experience spacing (or lack of) is a problem. I needed the long (2.5") adapter to get the filter properly situated. I would also consider changing the oil hoses. Mine were old but fine, however I reasoned that the handling and re-bending of hoses lying un-disturbed for long would only lead to trouble, so I had them all replaced with new ones. The ECI kit looks solid and came  complete with all hardware and gaskets. Oil changes have become faster and less cumbersome as the filter is easier to access than the screen.
Cheers

I've been the gallon ziplock bag trick and it works well as long as you keep it pulled up tight around the filter adaptor. I've also thought about getting or making something like this.

I have the second one good idea did not work well at all for me.  I'll sell it ot you for 1/2 price.   Maybe it is just operator error. I let the engine sit for 45 minutes and stuff rags under the filter works well enough for me.

What problems did you have with it? I could see a problem if it collapsed the filter instead of puncturing it.

Sorry a bit off topic but seems to make sense for those of us with oil filters that are looking for less messy oil change. I read somewhere on this form a while ago about the idea of drilling a hole in top of filter then blowing compressed air with a rubber nipple into the filter to push oil put of filter into engine. Works awesome hardly even dirty a shop towel. Maybe a teaspoon of oil. No oil running down firewall and on tire.

I'm going to resurrect this old thread, as it is the closest I could find to my current question...

Has anyone had experience with the Casper Labs 90 degree angle filter conversion?

http://www.chiefaircraft.com/cl-1000a-stc.html

Seems it is STC'd, but maybe/maybe not for Mooney Engines... Here's hoping someone else has done the research on this.

If your engine is an IO360A3B6D it won't work for you.  Save the money and learn to change to oil without spilling, it can be done.

I'm sorry I don't recall the conversion I ordered from Spruce, but it would not fit the Mooney due to an engine mount interference problem. Even talked to the guy who made the conversion. He owned a Mooney and couldn't use his conversion on his own plane. He advised me to find a used Lycoming adapter and use it. I'm thinking it was a Casper I tried. I know it was made in FL.

Rats. Thanks for the info. That is what I've got under the cowl...

On the Chief Aircraft Website, it states that it does not fit  Mooney aircraft.  It is at the very bottom of the description.

Taken directly from the description... it will not fit on the Beech Sundowner, Traveler or Musketeer with Lycoming engines; the Piper Cherokee Series; ALL Mooney Aircraft.
