How a Packer fan becomes a Chiefs fan...for a day in GA

Perhaps my most political and charged post...ever.  How does a life long packer fan and Wisconsonian become an AFC-K.C. Chiefs wearing fan for a day?  Well through the wonders of General Aviation.

 

Co-Owner's dad has season tickets to the Chiefs and invited me to tag along for a day at Arrowhead stadium.  We agreed on 1/2 gas for each with him driving down and me on return.  Met at 8:00AM and with vehicles safely stored in Mooney bannered hanger we fired up N3424X.

 

Flight down had sun at our backs and temps were in the high 40's at 8500 feet.  Speed at a 9.5GPM 30-50LOP was in the low to mid 140's (knots).  Cylinders were all happy at around 310.

 

We had flight following and enjoyed spotting a Twin at 1230 & 7500 passing off to our right as was called by our "co-monitor".  That is some serious closing speed...

 

Uneventful approach and landing with a Barron coming in right after us.  Good communication was key.  We had a nice welcome committee (Dad/mom/sister/niece/nephew and brother-in-law). 

 

Quick drive to stadium and there was the "sea of red".  Thousands of Chiefs fans enjoying a beautiful sunny day...and a 7-0 record.  Browns were in town and looking to make the flight home less enjoyable....

 

Talk about a LOUD stadium.  Made a headset-free Mooney cockpit seem docile.  Close game with the decision in the balance until the clock showed "0".  Chiefs win.  8-0.

 

At the airport on return partner let his niece and nephew (both under 10) climb in X-Ray and have a look around.  A future pilot or two in the making?....

 

My drive home was wonderful as it was a one of those rare days when you have no head-wind either way.  5500 feet and 146 knots with a burn right at 10GPH.  His leg 1.7, mine 1.5.  Home and tucked in with time for a nice dinner before watching...My Pack dismantle them Vikes up da nort woods.

I predict the Chief's will beat the Bronco's 13 to 10.  Peyton Manning will be out for the rest of the season with a 1st quarter injury from the Chief's punishing defense and Peyton will finish his career in Minnesota.   Go Chief's.

Saints have to get past the Niner's.  sAint going to happen.  The Super Bowl will be 49ers and Chief's.  Alex Smith will get his revenge. :angry:  Just to keep this thread with a aviation theme I think after the Chief's win the Super Bowl the world will be so happy that avgas will be lowered to $2/gal. :D

The Broncos will drop the Chiefs twice this year and show all what the Emperor is wearing. Denver will crush the 49ers in SB and finally get the memory of 1990 put to rest.

 Hows that for smack talk? To keep an aviation theme: Chiefs enter a flat spin and end up hoping for next year after loosing in the wild card game following a 2 and 5 collapse after the bye..

Packers had you beaten. Outplayed you on your home field...with the exception of 3 minutes of the Packers preventing a win with their poor play.

Congratulations on back to back Super Bowl appearances.

I hope you lose big time to the Patriots...

Have fun kicking somebody else why they are down. Stay classey.

Scott I am one of the most political people on the planet, right wing to the bone, but I lose it all when in aviation mode. 

Just a FYI.

I was told by my CFI that my airplane has Kansas City Chiefs colors though.

Well I will admit those are two very good reasons "or four if you want to look at it that way" to be a Chiefs fan... And being a west coast guy and a fan of the PAC 12 excluding the Ducks.... I have been a fan of Aaron Rodgers since he was at cal.

As a self admitted not much of a traditional sports fan other than hockey if the battle is west vs east I always go with my west coast roots so go Hawks. I grew up just 10 minutes from Oakland and was a die hard Raiders fan as a kid so it's kind of tough rooting for Seattle cause they were big time rivals before the league moved them to the NFC.

I was a Chief's fan...for a day. Life-long Packer backer. Chief fans were awesome, but I will take the friendly confines of Lambeau any day. Ducks got what Bucky got in the BigTen Championship game...a case of whupa$$ served to them.

Rodgers said (after loss to Seattle) "This one is gonna hurt a long time. When I look back at my career this loss will stand out" (paraphrasing) "We got conservative in our play calling"...

Yes Aaron, as a fan "This one IS gonna hurt for a long time"...

Lol, no kidding. I was going to pm you and let you rub it in:) I'm not a die hard Hawks fan like my gf but I do hate the patriots being a Miami fan "yes I know we suck". So it sucked non the less. But at least you enjoyed it...:)

After "The Catch" I went on a nice little rant asking my wife, my dog and no-one in particular "How can Pete constantly get this lucky when he doesn't play by the rules"...I may or may not have called out the big guy too....

Here comes the Beast Mode and me thinking "Should be da Pack"...and wa da $%^& just happened?....and I immediately said "Thank you Pete and Darrel for taking victory and inserting defeat. How very...Packer-Like...

Consoling a girlfriend is not the worst thing? Have fun with that. I am ready for pre-season. Watch out for that healthy MVP :)

Yeah it will be interesting if the team gives up on Pete next year. But he had one of those bone head moments a few years ago when they were playing Atlanta in the playoffs. the gf is a distric manager for starbucks and works in downtown Seattle. She said it's been pretty heart breaking. But now that football is over baseball is finally here...... Go yankees!!!!:)

Oh man...Baseball. Baseball='s Brewers+Cardinals=Dream killed. Brewers are "my Cubs"...Just means getting the sticks out....soon.

The Yankees, unlike the Brewers, can hold on to their hero's for a career. I am a closet Yankee fan. Jeter. Have you seen the several minute Will Farrell tribute to Derek? I can't stop laughing. (in a fake Boston accent) Derek Jeter...your a bum....Derek Jeter...I love you...I love you Derek Jeter....Your a bum :)

Find it on You Tube and hang in there. Worth it.

God I hate Will Farrell, but I will watch anything that has to do with Derek Jeter. "I would kiss you on the lips and not care who sees":)
