  1. Hello MS! Does anyone know of an STC for the leaky three piece avionics panel that allows for a single piece? On the older B,C,E models. I am wanting to close that area up better as I look to start IFR training. There was a headache of a few hours in a bad rainstorm (hurricane) with wet radios shorting out and a couple gauges that went inop (I posted about that one a few months ago). or is there another route to work with an AP/IA and a FSDO to get a field approval for a modification? Or a 337? I'm sure folks have done it. I would love to hear how they did it *In accordance with regs*. I looked for another thread on this but yielded no results. -Trent
  2. Hello All! This two days ago I took delivery of N74573 a B model serial #1884. I am very excited to be an active part of the Mooney community and learn as much as I can about airplane ownership. I would love to hear from other B Model owners about some of the idiosyncratic behaviors unique to their B models. I now have about 10 hours dual and excited to go out flying today and build a good deal of solo time to really feel comfortable and know the plane. If you have a B model speak up! If you have any tips please let me know. If you are in SoCal and curios to see an M20B let me know I’ll be flying all day. Also any words of encouragement regarding my ever growing squawk list is appreciated as well.
  3. I have a loud buzz in headsets on both radios when transmitting while engine is running and on ground. When airborne, no buzz but tower reports transmissions are weak and unreadable. All is quiet (no buzz) and both units seem to work when on ground and engine not running. Ground reports transmissions back as okay. The King 155 was just sent out to Mid Continent and returned "repaired" with new digital readout (expensive). Re installed and original problem remains. The other radio is a Narco 12D and works fine other than loud buzz in headset. Have Narco glideslope with DME readout. Also have Tierra audio panel and PS1000 intercom. Have a generator -no generator whine detected when running. The local repair facility wants to replace the Tierra audio panel and intercom hoping that problem will correct itself. Does not seem to want to troubleshoot the root problem. Any thoughts or guidance on this would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks for your input. Mert - KDVT
  4. I was flying today and noticed that the air coming out of the lower central vents (fed by the starboard side scoop, shares ducting with cabin heat) was warmer than the air coming in through the roof scoop ceiling vents. I knew that this vent line is shared with the cabin heat so I immediately suspected that the cabin heat was ever so slightly mixing in. I shut the cabin vent push actuator and confirmed that there was a very small amount of quite warm air coming from the same vent. Is this normal? Any thoughts on likely culprit? Just an issue with the baffle controls in the vent line or something more nefarious? Thanks in advance!
  5. We are only four months into our ownership of a 1968 M20F. Ever since we had purchased the plane, the vacuum "LOW" light would be illuminated when we have the master switch on prior to starting the engine. This had made sense to us as the engine isn't running so there would be no vacuum. The other day, on our first flight after "patching" a substantial leak in the step retract boot (perhaps entirely unrelated), the light did not illuminate when we turned the master switch on. The light will illuminate brightly when pushed to test. Upon close inspection it is apparent that the light is occasionally barely lit, but just barely, when the engine is not running. Thoughts? Is this a concern? There seem to be no other symptoms.
  6. Hello All - I'm wondering if anyone can help me with the proper lubricant for the retractable step on vintage Mooney's. I've witnessed from my own experimenting that too thick of a lubricant will cause binding. I've seen one post that referred to Teflon spray and a lubricant recommended in the service manual, but I can't find a portion of the service manual that refers to lubricating the step. Thanks!
