  1. Hello! We would like to introduce you to "The Plane Salon" - We are a full-service paint shop, upholstery house, and avionics installation provider in Southern California. We provide a variety of services and have had a bit of a "soft opening" for a few months as we refurbish our facility. We took over a number of hangars at Compton Woodley Airport about 10 miles south of downtown Los Angeles. Our social media is anemic for now and mostly a placeholder with many good things to come. To answer a few questions: Paint: Our paint hangar is 54x42 - we can accommodate anything from a Mooney Mite to a King Air / Pilatus / Merlin / Citation II and anything in between. It is a cross-flow booth that pushes around 120,000CFM, with new concrete, air lines, fans, drains, compressor, filters and more. We are one of those shops that does believe in acid etching, alodine, epoxy primers (chromated and non-chromated), and we use a full IMRON line unlike a number of our competitors, mixing our own colors in-house. The average paint tenure from our guys is 15 years, with employees previously at Gulfstream, Southwest, Emirates / Etihad, and Fedex. Some of our prep staff regularly paints hot-rods, low riders and many other vehicles on weekends - so we are able to perform any manner of paint a customer desires. We use environmentally friendly strippers, remove all inspection plates, cowlings, gills, wing root and other seals, and more. In the last few months, we've probably painted 7-8 Mooneys. We try to get you progress pictures frequently, and average 2-3 weeks to get an airplane completed (glass replacement notwithstanding). Looking forward to doing one with a Mooneyspace member so we can share our work with you. If you drop off your airplane, we are happy to drive you back to the airport or fly you back to some of the local home drones. Upholstery: We have a team of upholstery craftsmen that have been in the space for a very long time. We stock leather from Aeristo, Townsend and Garrett, and can source anything you'd like. From rebuilding your existing seats, to reinstalling fresh foam, bolsters, in-house embroidery and more, we are happy to help to refresh your interior. Avionics: From being an Avidyne, Dynon, Uavionix, Trig, and many others, while currently partnering with another exceptional Garmin dealer until the FAA finishes our Part 145 repair station review, we are happy to install any GA avionics for you as well as helping you design and install your new panel. Maintenance: We have 4 mechanics/IA's on staff: 3 are pilots (2 Bonanza owners, a Comanche / Swift owner) and a student pilot who's soloed...does the owner owning a few Mooneys count? Some of our customers are flight schools, so we are able to do overnight annuals for some aircraft. Mooneys are a regular presence in our hangar for annuals and upgrades. Some of our mechanics hail from Fedex and readily perform heavy structural repairs - from hangar rash, bent wings and tails, the ooops that drove their plane into a hangar, to gear ups, prop strikes and beyond. We do work with a number of the local insurance carriers to bring your aircraft back to original or better condition. As we took some time to refurbish our hangar during the winter, we do have spots available for paint and interior now. We are a little backed up on avionics, and are happy to do normal maintenance at your convenience. You can reach us at THEPLANESALON@GMAIL.COM, or (877) 725-6652. Cheers!
  2. Hello All, It's time for my bird to get a deep refresh. My time frame is about a year out. Any recommendations/suggestions for a good reputable paint shop in the Texas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Colorado area? The closer to the high plains area of west Texas the better. Thanks,
  3. Saltaire has refinished three award winning aircraft this year! In May at the 2nd Annual Beechcraft ABS Fly-In, Beech Baron N1064C won the award for Best Paint. In July at the 2012 EAA Fly-In in Oshkosh a 1948 Navion painted by Saltaire won a Class III Bronze Lindy Award, N888LW. Finally in September at the International Comanche Society Fly-In, N8818Y won the Flagship Award. Congratulations to these aircraft owners and to the incredibly dedicated staff at Saltaire Aircraft Refinishing for their never ending dedication to quality and detail!
