  1. Flew to Oshkosh from Northeast Florida with a fuel stop in South Wisconsin for lowest priced fuel in the area and close to 1 hr flight from there to Oshkosh. Total time from takeoff in FL to landing at Oshkosh was 6 hrs 50 min and around 84 total gallons of fuel having run the engine lean of peak. Had headwind all the way and some convective Sigmets to thread through. The weather in Wisconsin was close to MVFR due to significant haze from Canadian fires so controllers had Fisk approach set up with 2 NM in trail rather than the published 0.5 in the NOTAM. Great flight with awesome controllers!!!
  2. Hi all! Garmin will have our recently upgraded Ovation 2 on display at the Garmin exhibit during AirVenture Oshkosh featuring the G500 TXi flight display, dual GTN Xi navigators, dual GI 275 electronic flight instruments, and the GFC 500 autopilot. Stop by, say hi, and take a look at how we upgraded the company Ovation! For more info on new products, seminars, and other Garmin news during Oshkosh, visit www.garmin.com/Oshkosh. Kyle
  3. Hi folks, Since this has been very popular last year (again), we will hold the MooneySpace Social event in Oshkosh on Monday, July 22nd at the Mooney Caravan tent. To our knowledge this is the most attended Mooney pilots Pizza gathering "in the world". Same as last year, we will have pizza, beer and soft drinks for all people attending. As for the previous similar events, we will provide name tags (the sticky ones this time) for those who sign-up before the deadline while responding to this thread. This is the best opportunity to meet with other MooneySpace forum members face-to-face. We had a very good turnout last year. More info: • When: July 22rd, 6:30 PM (This is the Monday) • Location: At the Mooney Caravan tent which is usually on the west side of North 40. • All Mooney interested people are invited In order to help pay for the beer, pops, pizza and name tags we will accept CASH donations (no minimum, CBs are welcome). Any remaining amount will be split evenly between the Mooney Caravan Safety Foundation and the MooneySpace web site. One of our two sponsors from last year is returning with us: Thanks to Barry Leblanc of Genesys Aerosystem who will sponsor us again. We are actively looking for a second sponsor. People can contact me about this in private or email here: yvesg@semo.ca In order to get a name tag, please respond to this thread no later than July 15th and indicate the number of people in your party with the wanted names (usually MooneySpace handle) on the tag. Having headcount will help making sure we have enough pizza and drinks. I will periodically post the list of signed-ups here. See ya! Yves
  4. When does Camp Scholler fill up at Oshkosh? It is somewhat important that we be as close to the gate as possible this year. We could arrive either Saturday or Sunday mid-afternoon. I realize that it would be better on Saturday, but we have another opportunity that makes Sunday afternoon easier. So, if the camping doesn't really fill up until Sunday, I would prefer to arrive then. We have camped in Scholler the last 5 years, but have always arrived late Sunday or early Monday. We note that there is a big difference between camping locations at 7 and 9 pm Sunday, let alone Monday morning. Any thoughts? THANKS in advance!

  6. Wondering if anyone else is taking their teenage kids to Oshkosh this year, especially if they've been before? I'm taking my son (15) for his first trip to Oshkosh and he's not too thrilled about going. It's not that he doesn't want to go, he's just not as excited about aviation as his dad. I was thinking he might enjoy it more if he had someone his own age to hang out with who could show him around. I assume it is OK to give him a time and place to meet and let him run around with other kids to explore on their own. He's very responsible, so I'm more worried about him getting lost or not having fun than I am about him getting into any trouble. We'll be traveling and camping with the Caravan, so that will give him an opportunity to meet any other Caravan teens and hang out with them a couple days before the real show starts. Advice from veteran attendees who survived taking their teens to Oshkosh is also welcome!

  13. So I'm flying my first arrival at Oshkosh this year in my C model- not the Caravan but the standard FISK VFR arrival. I'm studying the Notam, which is really pretty clear, and watching some youtube videos to get the visual lay of the land and ambiance of the arrival. But as a fairly low time pilot, I feel like I should also practice some flying skills to get ready. I'm going to schedule something with my instructor in a couple of weeks for this purpose and wanted to now what skills I should ask to practice. As of now, I plan to practice the following: -Short field/ precision landings -Short approaches/ engine out 180s -Configuring the plane for 90kts cruise - This may take some trial and error, I pretty much never cruise this slow -Slow flight in general Do folks have any other suggestions? One thing that worries me is judging spacing and making necessary adjustments if I'm getting too close.

  24. Greetings Mooney Enthusiasts, The Mooney Caravan organization is actively seeking participants for this year's Caravan to Oshkosh. To this end, a number of Formation Flying clinics are being organized around the country. If you are located in the Northeast/Mid-Atlantic region, and have interest in going to Oshkosh in style or just want to have some local fun with formation flying, please join us for the weekend of May 30th at Lancaster, PA. This event will provide an environment for you to learn basic formation flying skills. Since you are already a competent and experienced Mooney pilot, you have little to learn. I'm sure you will find that formation flying enhances flying skills as well as flying camaraderie. The Lancaster event is still coalescing, so if you have any interest, reach out now and let me know. You can find more information about formation training on the Caravan website at https://sites.google.com/site/mooneycaravan/home See you at OSH, but hopefully sooner! -Adam "Sled" Carney N9127D adam@mooney27d.com
