  1. I have a GTN 650 and GTX 345 but the screen size is too small on the 650 to read anything on the map. I wish I had a 750 but the 650 was installed before I bought the plane. A Mooney friend has the older Apollo MX20 (Garmin bought Apollo and replaced it with GMX200) in his plane connected to his GNS 430 and it works great. The MX20/GMX200 is a large screen. Im considering purchasing a used GMX 200 and installing I’m my 201 for map and traffic, or I could subscribe and get charts for the GMX 200. The unit is not supported by Garmin anymore but since it’s only acting as a display I’m not so concerned given the lower cost. Used GMX 200’s sell for $2k -$4k plus install. I use an iPad Mini with ForeFlight connected to my 345, but would prefer to have a panel mounted sunlight readable large screen that doesn’t freeze or get too hot. Anyone have any wisdom to share on this thought?
  2. I have an STEC 30 coupled to a GTN 650 and an Aspen pfd. I realize the STEC 30 alone can't do intercepts for approaches but can track a VOR or localizer signal in trk-lo or trk-hi mode. I also understand that having GPSS via the Aspen allows the STEC to use GTN 650 data to intercept. I'm trying to figure out how to make the most of this setup during training and real world IFR flying. After poring through the STEC 30 and Aspen manuals, I'm left with two unanswered questions: 1. After intercepting an LPV final approach course, the STEC manual says to use trk-hi mode to follow the course. But if I use GPSS to intercept, why not just leave it in heading mode with GPSS? In the real world, I imagine one would even prefer to use GPSS to fly an ILS approach after switching the nav signal display to the ILS? The STEC 30 autopilot's ability to track the localizer directly in trk-hi sounds more finicky than heading mode with GPSS. 2. What am I left with if the Aspen fails? This failure will likely be simulated on the check ride. Obviously GPSS function and flying in heading mode will be gone. But will the STEC 30 still be able to track a VOR or localizer in trk-lo or trk-hi mode based on the NAV signal from my GTN 650 or SL30? I suspect not, but couldn't figure this out definitively from the manuals. I'd like to have some clue what the answer should be before I try it.
  3. The item has been SOLD. Thank you, I purchased a new GTN 650 in February from gulfcoast avionics which includes the installation tray and factory wire harness that they built for warranty purposes. I ended up not installing the unit (had a mishap in my mooney and the plane is now at the scrap yard and not needing the 650) and am now putting it up for sale. I also have a used WAAS Garmin antenna to go with it. Everything is new in the box as I received it. I also purchased the USA base maps and I know there is some data included that allows you to do the initial updates from Garmin. PM me if you are interested. I have $10k invested. Make me a solid offer and save yourself a few $$'s for an unboxed unit.
