  1. GI 275 software 2.32. upgrade installed and showing very easy access to the GPSS vs HDG toggle function for the Autopilot. It is now in the first menu level rather than three levels deep. I did not install the alternative option which is a physical panel switch since I wanted to try the software option first. Since the software option works quite well I do not think I will be installing the switch. Need to make more flights in IMC and busy ATC with interspersed deviations to make final assessment. However, based on this flight it appears I will stay with the software option. There were no glitches whatsoever. Easy to toggle even in busy ATC airspace. GI 275 performed excellently as in the past including an RNAV approach. Very happy with the change!!!
  2. Installed Equipment: Avidyne 550, Aspen 2500 (three panel), S-Tec 60-2 Autopilot GPSS has never done a full standard rate turn since I've owned this airplane. The adjustment is as far as it can be adjusted and it gets kinda close but not ideal. As a result, every time it overshoots each turn a bit. I’m looking at the S-Tec 3100 autopilot when it becomes available for the Baron which would solve that problem but I don’t think it is worth throwing money at an autopilot that I plan to replace soon. I just flew a flight plan: 57AZ-CROME-KAVQ-57AZ and GPSS flew it. The autopilot in GPSS will intersect the leg at a 45º angle initially and in the first photo on the iPad you can see it doing that, I activated the autopilot after turning downwind from taking off RWY19 at 57AZ. The autopilot tracked directly to CROME, as it should have after intercepting the course. Notice the 550 shows a magenta line to CROME and a “barber pole” after CROME signifying the next leg. BUT . . . Also notice the angle of the flight path on the 550 from 57AZ to CROME to KAVQ and that it is not curved as would be expected with GPSS. After CROME, the airplane continued straight ahead for a while so I just let it do it’s thing to see what would happen. It made a right 270º turn to re-intercept at CROME and then went merrily along to KAVQ. Notice on the 550, at KAVQ the flight path is curved as would be expected with GPSS and in fact the flight path was curved. I guess CROME must a “fly over” waypoint where KAVQ is a "fly by” waypoint. Interesting. I don’t know if you can force a fly over to be a fly by waypoint or not.
  3. I have an STEC 30 coupled to a GTN 650 and an Aspen pfd. I realize the STEC 30 alone can't do intercepts for approaches but can track a VOR or localizer signal in trk-lo or trk-hi mode. I also understand that having GPSS via the Aspen allows the STEC to use GTN 650 data to intercept. I'm trying to figure out how to make the most of this setup during training and real world IFR flying. After poring through the STEC 30 and Aspen manuals, I'm left with two unanswered questions: 1. After intercepting an LPV final approach course, the STEC manual says to use trk-hi mode to follow the course. But if I use GPSS to intercept, why not just leave it in heading mode with GPSS? In the real world, I imagine one would even prefer to use GPSS to fly an ILS approach after switching the nav signal display to the ILS? The STEC 30 autopilot's ability to track the localizer directly in trk-hi sounds more finicky than heading mode with GPSS. 2. What am I left with if the Aspen fails? This failure will likely be simulated on the check ride. Obviously GPSS function and flying in heading mode will be gone. But will the STEC 30 still be able to track a VOR or localizer in trk-lo or trk-hi mode based on the NAV signal from my GTN 650 or SL30? I suspect not, but couldn't figure this out definitively from the manuals. I'd like to have some clue what the answer should be before I try it.
  4. This is a factory fresh S-Tex ST-901 unit, p/n 03976, with an 8130. It was repaired by S-Tec and has not been used or installed since. My understanding is that they replaced both circuit boards in the unit. It comes with (appears to be new) panel mounted annunciator, p/n 03975, that switches between heading and GPSS mode. It also comes with the connectors. It is setup for the King KCS 55A. Will sell complete for $950 plus shippingCall or text Brian at 319-560-4910 or email me at brianweber@ Foxtrot Mike Tango Charlie Sierra dot com with questions or for more info. I know this is my first post on Mooneyspace which might make a prospective buyer nervous but I'm much more active on Beechtalk and Piperforum. I have 100% positive feedback on eBay for hundreds of motorcycle and airplane parts. My tail numbers are N69PS and N201JR.
  5. .. And this all started with me wanting to simply upgrade my EDM 800! .... Ok .. with help of the suggestions and comments here, I went a little nuts and went for the full Monty panel upgrade. I was thinking of going glass with my steam gauges, but I really like them, and their redundancy so I kept them all and added one that had been previously removed. So now I have my *PERFECT* panel for me! Lots of things are behind the panel, but here's what I had installed... (I swapped out my MX20. EDM 800, Ryan 9900BX active traffic, ADF.. kept my 430W) and added the following stuff since the before pic: GTN 750 Garmin GDL 88 ADSB Tranceiver Garmin GMA 35 Remote audio panel Flightstream 210 TI 102 USB charging ports DAC international GDC 31 roll steering adapter (Don Kaye talked me into this one.. love it) Guardian CO detector Avidyne TAS 620 Active traffic EDM 830 (in landscape! long story on a different thread) Avidyne AXP 340 1090 Transponder EJC turn coordinator Eagle systems AOA (Valkyrie HUD) Here's some before and after pics. Absolutely love the integration of my ipad though the flightstream that feeds nav data from my ipad to my GTN which cross fills my 430 and reverse also. Guardian CO already paid for itself in picking up an exhaust clamp that was beginning to leak nearing failure. And I could be imagining this, but I think now that I am fully ADSB compliant, the controllers seem to handle you a little better. Got everything I want in my Mooney Panel... for now!! imgCA8XS4VW.pdf

  7. I have a KAP-150 autopilot with a GNS 430W and Aspen Evolution. My autopilot tracks the GPS course with about a 1/8 mile offset to the right. When I select the Heading Bug steering source (non-GPSS), the autopilot tracks a couple of degrees right of the commanded heading. Is there a way to adjust or fine tune the KAP-150 autopilot to track course centerline and the heading bug? Thanks Dan
