  1. Greetings All -- My plane is in the shop for some panel work, so no flying. When it is flying, my engine monitor doesn't report %HP, so that got me to wondering how those that do calculate it for each engine type, since obviously RoP %HP is dependent upon a number of factors, some external and others tied to the specific engine. Not many manufacturers reveal much about their algorithm, and many seem to rely on fairly simple treatments, which I assume do not produce consistent results over all power settings. After some reading and research, I was able to assemble a model from several sources, though, and put together a spreadsheet to do the calculations. The guts of the parameterization comes from a nice analysis done by Calle Hedberg and John Smith at MGL. I have attached the spreadsheet; as constructed it is specific for the 310 HP NA IO-550. it could be tailored for other engines with the use of appropriate parameters. Seems to produce reasonable results, consistent with experience and within a few percent at worst of the published tables where they overlap. It does both LoP and RoP (the interesting case) and plots out a variety of data, including for grins the lean offsets required to keep out of the yellow zone of the redfin for a given set of inputs. Thought this might be interesting to someone here, so if it is, it's yours. If you do use it, I would welcome feedback on if it produces results that are consistent with your engine monitors, etc. Enjoy! Cheers - Bob P.S.> The sheet is protected, but can be unprotected without a password. IO-550N Performance Calculator.xlsx
  2. I am listing for sale my 1994 Mooney Ovation M20R. This Mooney is serial number 2 off of the line and was initially Mooney’s demonstrator. It is the Ovation that was on the cover of the magazines when it was released (painted in the much more bold Texas flag). It has the 310hp Midwest Mooney Screaming Eagle Conversion. It has some updated avionics with the Garmin GTN-650, GPSS roll steering, flushmounted JPI EDM-900 (primary for all engine instruments), RCA 2600 backup electric AI, and GAMIjectors for smooth LOP operations. The engine is higher time, but the airplane flies regularly, and I have put over 400 hours on the airplane in 2 years. I have it hangared continuously with oil changes every 30-45 hours. Last annual performed by DLK Aviation (Mooney Service Center). Maintenance managed by Savvy Maintenance Management. All ADs and SBs complied with. Complete Logs. No damage history. Below is a detailed spec sheet with links to the logbooks and additional photographs. Please email or call to discuss the airplane. 1994 Mooney Ovation M20R N94MR SN: 29-0002 Price: $148,000 USD Contact: Ben Eskra Cell: 610-858-5325 Email: beneskra@yahoo.com Airframe: 1,586.1 TT Engine: 1,586.1 TT SNEW Continental IO-550-G 310hp, 2,000 hour TBO GAMIjectors Cylinders #1 and #2 overhauled by Zephyr 3/2012 at 1,204 hours Cylinder #4 replaced with an overhaul exchange cylinder 11/2013 at 1,530 hours Borescope done at 1,530 hours shows the remainder of the cylinders in good condition Oil analysis done at each oil change shows no metal and good condition Compressions from 5/2013 annual: 72/66/62/62/60/60 Prop: 113 TT SNEW 3-blade Hartzell Scimtar 310 HP upgrade performed by Midwest Mooney 7/2013 General: Aircraft hangared at Wayne Executive Jetport (KGWW) in Goldsboro, NC No known damage history Annual Inspection due: 5/2014 IFR Certification due: 10/2014 All AD’s in compliance Avionics/Radios: Garmin GTN 650 WAAS JPI EDM-900 engine monitor (primary for all engine and fuel gauges) Garmin GTX-330 Mode S Transponder with TIS-B Alpha Systems Angle of Attack Indicator (Heated probe, legacy chevron display) Garmin Aera 560 panel mounted with XM weather RCA 2600-3 Electric backup attitude indicator King KFC-150 AP King KAS-297B Altitude preselect DAC GPSS Roll Steering Adapter King KX-155 King KN 64 DME King KMA 24 Audio Panel 4 place intercom Front 2 seats wired for Bose powered headsets ACK 406 mHz ELT BFG WX1000+ Stormscope Additional Equipment: Reiff Engine Preheater Turbo XP with Oil cooler heater option Speed brakes Primary vacuum pump (overhaul exchange 11/2013) Electric standby vacuum system (overhaul exchange 5/2013) Wing sight fuel gauges Dual Concorde Batteries RG24-15 (new 10/2013) Noco Genius trickle charger Micro VGs, LoPresti Hubba Hubba Caps Complete set of Kennon Sun Shields Aircraft cover Exterior: Original white over blue with metallic gold accent stripe, fair condition Interior: Original gray leather.
