  1. Good Day to All, i just wanted to drop a note. I brought the Mooney down to Long Island! No, not the one in NY, the one down South. Good flight, except for a persistent 20kt headwind, regardless of altitude. Excellent people down here, I can say it's really nice to be here. The North end of the island came thru the hurricane relatively unscathed, the Southern end, not so much. The airports at Deadman's Cay and Stella Maris are operating, get a friend and come ooooon doooooown!!! And yeah, gas is expensive, so don't even ask.... Oldn0tded Its an attitude, not a screen name!!

  3. Dear Mooney enthusiasts, I am currently a pilot with about 175 hours and close to finishing his instrument rating (already have high perf and complex). I currently own a 1974 180HP piper warrior, that I love and has served me wonderfully, but I am ready to start thinking about something that can do better cross country time and fuel efficiency. After much thought, I think a Mooney M20J/K is probably the plane that would suit me best. If the group wouldn't mind, I have a few questions that I would like some advice on; 1) Times: I am getting bored with the warrior and feel ready to upgrade, but am I moving too quickly going to an M20J with the number of hours and ratings that I have? 2) Price: Currently, the value of my plane is about $45K. I can put in another $15K cash when I upgrade, but I will need to wait to be able to save up more than that. Can I afford a decent M20J at that value? 3) Do people agree the M20J is the right plane, and how much better is it than the earlier models? Most of the reviews I read seemed to think there was a solid difference, which is why I settled on the J version as the oldest. 3) Can people tell me how accurate the VREF values are for Mooneys? I have seen quite a few Mooneys for sale that are below VREF but still are not getting offers. Is it something with their planes or are the vref values too high? Thank you very much for your time!

  7. Hey guys some of you know I just bought my M20F, since I have to pay for the gas myself I want to optimize the range and endurance of the plane while still getting a good cruise speed out of it. I was wondering what your guys recommended settings would be for that??

  9. Hi first off I'm 17, got my PPL in January and currently have 100 hours. Next year I'll be attending Embry Riddle, and right now my family is currently buying a plane. We are on the final stretches of buying the plane, which is a 1969 Mooney M20F, I'll leave a link below. I have time in some complex planes such as a arrow, and most of my time is in a cessna and an archer. What I wanted to know was what should I know about the M20F and Mooneys in general, such as best cruise RPM and Manifold Pressure for optimized cruise and different characteristics?? http://www.trade-a-plane.com/detail/2047530.htm
  10. Hi my name is Connor, I'm 17 and got my PPL in January. My family has been looking at planes and came down to a Mooney because of the range and fuel efficiency. We were looking at another mooney m20f but was recently sold. So if anyone knows a good M20F with good hours and under 50k please let me know??
  11. Hi my family is currently in the home stretch of buying our 1969 M20F. I was wondering what are some simple mods wether they are appearance or performance that are simple and low cost to improve the plane??

  13. Hello, I'm in the market for a mooney (most likely m20c) and want to basically find one with no damage history and a relatively new engine, but that's it. My plan is to then get it painted, have the interior redone, and have new avionics installed. Has anyone had experience with this? And what mods are important/beneficial for a model c? I know there is a cowl conversion to help with cooling and speed, but are there any other ones?

Of course you can, but you won't find one in this nice of condition with these options that has been this nicely maintained and cared for at this price.
  15. Hello, all - Need a Mooney-experienced pilot to ferry my Bravo from 20GA to McCollum Field to get avionics repairs. (My BFR is expired.) Also need to do the BFR, obviously. I tried Jim Stevens, but he won't be available when I'm in town, Sep 26th & 27th. I'm working out-of-state in Philly, so I have only limited opportunities to do things with my plane. I *could* get a BFR in, say, a C-172 here in Philly, but I really need to fly in my own plane. I've been out of the cockpit for over 2 years. Anybody know someone?
  16. Mooney has stepped up as the "Presenting Sponsor" for the 2014 Planes of Fame Airshow in Chino, CA. One of the top airshows on the West Coast. http://planesoffame.org/index.php?page=general-info Thanks Mooney!
  17. My first try at a GoPro video. I went did a few circuits at the airport up the road (Bhisho - FABE) and the clip is mostly of departing my local field, Wings Park (www.wingspark.co.za) and of returning. http://youtu.be/cTAaBk8Nym4
  18. This is probably one of the most rare parts I've ever encountered. I've spent almost two days calling mooney service centers including internationally, salvage places, etc. and no luck. Anyone out there that could help me out? I'm looking for an airbox boot for a Mooney M20K, the PN: 600414-001. I'm only needing one. The factory sells it for $461.89 however they're 120 days out, I'm needing to order it ASAP and obviously around that price range. Used but obviously good condition would work as well.

  21. You will no doubt recognize this gorgeous 201 as belonging to MooneySpace member Brett Nicolette of Latrobe, PA. I am proud to assist Brett in the sale of his aircraft so he can move closer to his objective of purchasing a de-iced machine for his weekly commutes across PA and family travel across the Eastern Seaboard. My objective with this thread is to expound on the data presented in Brett's previous listing, and to share several high resolution photos of the aircraft so you can gain a better idea of its condition. Last week I flew to Latrobe to meet Brett, learn more about his 201 prior to listing it, and photograph the aircraft. I was immediately struck by the immaculate condition of '62G and the spotless hangar in which it lives. The pride Brett takes in ownership is exceptional, and is reflected in preventive maintenance records & invoices, savvy upgrades for IFR redundancy, and the stunning airplane itself. Brett is a straightforward and genuine guy; the next owner will benefit from his fastidious approach to ownership and preventive maintenance. This crowd is extremely familiar with J model performance so I'll be brief. '62G is representative of a well-rigged 201, and runs smoothly at 30 LOP, truing 157 KTAS at 9.5 gph. Go-fast mode is 162 KTAS ROP at 11.6 gph, bankable. CHTs are cool with new Gee Bee baffling and well-tuned GAMIs, as monitored by the color JPI 830 with fuel flow & computer. I was impressed by Brett's investments in redundancy for safe IFR travel. Aside from the JPI, '62G sports an electric standby attitude indicator, a standby vacuum system, two GPS backups for positional SA, XM weather, and recently overhauled AI, HSI, and vacuum pump. '62G has enjoyed careful preventive maintenance prior to Brett's ownership, as evidenced by yearly CorrosionX treatments and almost exclusive work by Mooney Service Centers. Fourteen years ago, '62G encountered a gear-up landing by a previous owner in 1999; repairs were made by a Mooney Service Center, the engine was overhauled, and a new McCauley propeller was installed. Physical inspection reveals no visible evidence of prior damage. N1162G is flown weekly by an veteran professional pilot. The Reiff engine preheater is handy for Winter, and compressions are strong. 23. After the last few days, I needed a little aviation levity… so just now at work I was pursing through Mooneyspace and looking through 201er's Mooney Expedition St. Vincent, Wet Arrival images and telling my wife how neat it was, when my she walked by looked over my shoulder and said he looks really young…. Then she said as she walked away…. Looks like your Mooney thing is like your Corvette thing!!! I said NOW what is that supposed to mean I said…? Without missing a beat she calmly said: seems that the only people who have Corvettes and Mooney’s are young guys who like fast things and old guys going through a mid-life crises…. chuckle... chuckle.. I said gosh dear that is sweat of you to say that you still think of me as a young guy….. For my own self esteem I won't repeat what her response was…….!! By the way just to set the record straight I bought the Corvette for her …. When asked about it she says “yea it looked good but there was no place to put the groceries and we had 3 kids at home at the time for a two seat car…” Yea I said but the kid (whichever one was lucky enough to be the one she took that day) really liked the ride to school….!!!
  24. I am excited to assist my local Mooneyspace friend Mark Thompson with the sale of his gorgeous 1982 Mooney Missile as he is in the middle of a relocation across the country. Bottom line - phenomenal engine/prop/airframe times, no-excuse preventive maintenance, and probably the only TKS cross-country airplane with NDH and fresh IO-550 overhaul that can be had for the low-$140s. I know the seller, Mark, very well - he is an honest and detail oriented guy that does not put up with squawks. I have flown this aircraft and personally vouch for its condition. Especially when compared with an Ovation or comparatively equipped Bonanza, this Missile represents tremendous value for an owner that desires long-distance all-WX IFR travel but not a $200k+ price point. I think you all are familiar with the Missile conversion so I will not take the time to explain it. The bottom line is that Rocket Engineering supports the product 100% - as they did earlier this year with new engine mounts. The IO-550 was overhauled by Poplar Grove in 2012 and with recent GAMIs, runs turbine-smooth LOP. We've had success at 165 KTAS at 10.2gph, as well as 180+ KTAS when 150 ROP - the option is yours. 93 usable gallons gives you 1240nm with IFR reserves when 20 deg LOP. Even at gross, 1550fpm is impressive...and gives my E55 Baron a run for its $$! N301TV is flown weekly and has always been hangared. Previous long-time Midwest ownership: zero corrosion.
