  1. For Sale: Immaculate 1978 M20J 201! Newer Paint (9 out of 10), Newer Interior (9 out of 10), All Glass Avionics, New Engine, Low Time Prop! You won't find a better value on the market for a pristine M20J 201. This is a turn key aircraft with exceptional maintenance history. Fly 150kts True Airspeed at 8.7GPH ROP!! This Aircraft won't last long as you won't find a better cared for and equipped Mooney 201 on the market. Last two owners have always hangared aircraft. Aircraft is in Arizona. I am selling the Airplane to go to a high performance airplane. This is an excellent Aircraft that I have poured a bunch of money and time into. Give me a call if you have any questions: Justin Dyster; 480-254-7627 Complete logbooks and additional pictures available at: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/642e57qb1mcyy9l/AACoHGxIg6K0GVlRZSnqDPpQa?dl=0 Trade-A-Plane: https://www.trade-a-plane.com/search?category_level1=Single+Engine+Piston&make=MOONEY&model=M20J+201&listing_id=2256517&s-type=aircraft N33YZ_Spec-Sheet_3202017.pdf
  2. Trade a Plane listing is here: https://www.trade-a-plane.com/search?listing_id=2265780 Hangared at KOBI Woodbine, NJ. I have owned N1159P for 24 years, and she flies regularly. It came out of the factory with a useful load of 907, adding technology and accessories, the UL today is 888. That's less than 20 lbs of UL, but fly a technically advanced and feature rich IFR airplane as a result. 3880 TTSN, and 1100 on a Factory Reman (roller tappets). Pretty paint (2006), the cloth interior is original, some wear, but not ratty. Some history, a bird strike on top of left wing (2013) and empennage damage after a Stearman clipped my tail feathers in 2005, while I was parked at KMIV. Never landed gear up, no hail or corrosion damage. All repair work meticulously completed by the master, Dave M at Air-Mods and Repair in Robbinsville, NJ, one of the best in the business. You won't find a better equipped panel, see the trade a plane listing for detail, N1159P is 2020 ADS-B IN/OUT ready with weather and traffic, including an on board WiFi system that extends the ADS-B data to your smart phone/tablet, Aspen MFD, Garmin MFD, 430W, GTX330, SL-30, EDM700, PMA7000, RANGR 978, and the list goes on. I'm asking $93,500, offers considered. I'm thinking of moving up after some tire kicking of my own. Happy to answer any questions, TAP has the best listing detail including logs. - Jeff 609-469-1986
  3. Hi - new member here. I have about 350 M20J hours and have decided to buy a used M20R 2GX or 3GX (2005 or later to get the Garmin G1000 with GFC 700 and SVT etc. Not being lazy, but did not find answers elsewhere on the forum). My mission is ~500nm non-stop in IFR and through Class B, taking off and landing in controlled airspace. Here are some questions I could use some guidance and help with: 1. If I base my Mooney at KSVH (A&P mechanic on site but not a Mooney center) how do I get the plane to the nearest authorized service center if it needs service (if it cant be flown there)? And where might the nearest reliable center be? 2. Where is the nearest center where I could do a pre-buy inspection (could not find anything closer than Fort Lauderdale)? 3. Does anyone know of any good planes (of the type described above) for sale? 4. Can someone please describe the buying process to me and how long will it take; 5. Is it better to buy in NC or CT (I have domicile in both places); 6. Could you point me to a few links/resources where I can better learn about buying a Mooney? Many thanks
  4. Well, this may be the strangest idea Mooney Has come up with. They were asked to partner on a vTol project with Uber!! I would think giving everyone a J model or even remaking the C would be cheaper than a VTOL partnership. https://www.verticalmag.com/news/uber-launch-electric-vtol-aircraft-dallas-dubai/?utm_source=vertical-daily-news-top-story&utm_campaign=vertical-daily-news&utm_medium=email&utm_term=top-story&utm_content=V1 -Matt
  5. Hello All, I'm really too gutted to write anything of substance at the moment, but I wanted to share a few pictures of my father, the first one of him sitting in his Mooney Mite sometime between '69 and '71, when he owned the Mite. We laid him to rest yesterday far ahead of when it should have been. For the past two years he'd battled a brain injury from a freak accident. I had been searching for a Mooney when the accident occurred. He and I had been talking multiple times a week, planning all the trips we'd take, including Oshkosh. After the accident I could no longer call him and to visit meant a 5 hour drive, which I did many times until I found the Mooney. That helped shorten that trip to 1.5 hours which meant I could see him more frequently. He was so thrilled to hear of the plane and tried his best to overcome his challenges so he could go flying. It just wasn't meant to be. However, trying to make the most of the situation and give him some good days back, I managed, with the help of some good friends, to take a field trip away from the facility he was in and get him into my E this past November for a flight. He had a great day. To the staff at the facility, or anyone that visited, he talked about it for weeks and weeks afterwards. Throughout his life, he was so humble, quiet and kind. And so incredible. He did so much for me, I could never repay. Although he was a home builder by trade, his love of aviation was immense. He owned an Aeronca and a Mooney Mite, built a Rotorway Scorpion Too (II) in our garage when I was a kid, and was a Hot Air Balloon pilot flying second balloon for two of his friends businesses (I chased as a new teenage driver). He earned his Private, Instrument, Multi, Commercial and was hired by Eastern Airlines two seconds before they put a freeze on the incoming hires and it never materialized after that. He had a host of other incredible hobbies too, but this is an aviation forum and I've gone on long enough. Thanks Dad for, everything. Everything! Thanks MS'ers for letting me share this.

  7. Do you have HF in your Mooney? Have you thought about installing HF in your Mooney? What type of HF antenna do you have on your Mooney? What HF radio and ATU are you using in your Mooney? Was HF already in the plane when you got it, or did you have it installed? Aeronautical High Frequency (HF) radio has been the mainstay of long distance Air Traffic Control for over 80 years, especially in areas of the world where coverage with line-of-sight VHF radio is not reliable or possible. Although aircraft satellite ATC communications are now commonplace, HF is still very active for Major World Air Route Areas (MWARA) as well as Regional and Domestic Air Route Areas (RDARA). HF is widely utilized for bush flights and NGOs to communicate with ground mobiles, remote outposts, camps, or portable units. Some pilots who are ham radio operators may also enjoy talking on HF radio with amateur radio enthusiasts. So, there are many reasons for Mooney pilots to want HF capability in their plane.

  9. Hello, I wanted to take a minute and introduce myself. I moved to the Daytona area a year ago. I am based at KOMN. I spend most of my days at the field instructing and working on my planeand making airplane noises. I am a CFI,CFII. MEI here. I Currently own a 65 M20c. I bought this neglected bird a few months ago. It sat outside untouched for a few years. But the overall numbers were good all low times. And the previous owner did the major (engine, tanks) repairs before he had some medical issues. I had to send out the carb it was clogged. A few days later I had her running. That was a major hurdle. Then it was onto the next item. I have a fresh panel being built. It will be sporting a Garmin 430, Stratus ESG, dual cdi, ps engineering audio panel and a jpi 900. Keeping the steam gauges till a later date. While that work is being conducted. I took on the daunting task of replacing all the firewall insulation. The plane had the eyelids removed and placed on with a few screws. Water manage to get in and sit on the floor. Luckily no carpet installed. I should have taken the hint from the upholstery shop on the field. What a pain. But now all that is done and man what a difference. In the next few weeks it should make its first flight in 2+ years. Well that's just a little about me. I look forward to bouncing around here for a while. So if you see me on the field stop say hi. I would love to talk. Jason

  12. Hey everyone, I'm on the hunt for a decent M20C from the year 69 and below. Looking for an airplane that is a regular flyer and not an airplane that has flat tires and hasn't seen 2000 feet in 10 years. Looking for a plane with maybe some newer avionics, not glass cockpit but maybe an autopilot system, and a Garmin 430 or newer. Finally, looking for a plane with a newer paint job, but if not thats fine! Im located in BC Canada but will be willing to fly to get a decent airplane. Thanks!
  13. Latitude Aviation is proud to list N92EL, which is a 1992 Mooney M20J MSE. N92EL is owned by two brothers who are located in Grand Rapids, MI. N92EL is well-appointed with an Aspen EFD 1000 PFD, GTN 750, KFC 150 autopilot, and EDM 830 engine management system. There are other avionics and systems upgrades as well and they are listed below. The cosmetics are in good shape although there is a minor cosmetic dent/ding on the leading edge of the left wing (and there are close up pictures posted below). The owners have had the plane for exactly 6 years and in that time have flown it approximately 1040 hours which is about 173 hours per year. They rely on it for both personal and business travel so it has been meticulously maintained. Below are detailed specs as well as links to the logbooks and the high resolution photo gallery. I also have the FAA registration and airworthiness records available and will email them upon request. 14. Hey Everyone, Just put a deposit down on a Mooney I am looking to buy. So naturally I thought this would be the place to find a CFI to get some training on it. The aircraft is based at PDK currently. It will need relocating to 20GA. (hour drive west of PDK) I have not gotten the insurance requirements yet for it but I am sure I am looking at 10-20 hours of instruction. The co-owner of the plane will also need it so good opportunity for some time. This will probably be the week before Christmas for the ferry flight. And then instruction the week after. Some info on the aircraft, 1962 20C, manual gear, Garmin 430, STEC-50 auto pilot. Send me a message if you are interested.
  15. Hello Mooney Pilots, I am starting to get serious about purchasing an Acclaim. I live in Los Angeles and would like to meet someone in the area who could show me their plane, answer some questions, and let me buy them lunch. I owned a Bonanza for 10 years, and I am into year 5 of a Cessna 340. I learned about and purchased both airplanes by joining forums like this, asking questions, and meeting owners. I moved up to the 340 because I needed the room, but my mission profile has changed and there is no need to take all that metal with me on every flight now. I have become addicted to the speed, and the only way I could give up the twin is if I could fly faster (with a lot less fuel). I have also become quite fond of pressurization and flying up high, so wanted to get your impressions of using oxygen for hours at a time. After years of owning antique aircraft, I also love the idea of owing a plane built in current century that does not have brittle plastic and wiring. Any other thoughts on Mooney ownership would be welcome. Thank you for your time! Ron Mohrhoff KSMO

  20. Hi all, I am looking to meet fellow Mooney pilots here in San Diego and southern California for fly outs. Right now, I am considering either a 252/231/Bravo as my Mooney purchase. Prices are pretty good right now. At first I considered other models outside of Mooney but a newer Mooney is faster and less expensive than a Cirrus, Cessna, or Bonanza. Scott
  21. Hey all, I live in Jupiter, FL, and I'm shopping for a Mooney that's fast, bells and whistles, turbocharged, etc. I'm just doing initial research, but I do need a few things in specific: Good A&P services for pre-buy inspection, as well as regular maintenance, and one that's familiar with the Mooney types. Other service providers like 02, avionics, etc, and tips on where you go would also be useful. I live near F45, or maybe SUA, but FPR or VRB might be my home field for a while if I buy soon. I'm also open to any tips or advice on things to look for with certain types during the pre-buy inspection and annuals. I'm a total newbie, so I'm tapping the knowledge base here. Oh- I'm an ATP with 6k+ hours, but I'm definitely looking for instruction to check me out in type and get me salty. Many thanks in advance. - Firebird
  22. I am going to fly my factory rebuilt engine on my Bravo plane this weekend. Lycoming recommends flying the engine between 70-75% power. The POH does not indicate the MP and RPM settings. Any help on breaking this engine TIO-540-AF1B engine would be appreciated. I have read the Lycoming Flyer and understand the details.
