  1. Garmin has just come out with a special "show" rebate program, but to get it, you have to be in Oshkosh....sad but I will not make it there this year.... I am interested in the GTN650...rebate is $500. I ask is there anybody that would try to get me a Garmin rebate form from their exhibit....they need to sign it to be valid. if you can get one...please mail it to Larry Nimmo 11401 Chapel Rd Cordova, MD 21625
  2. I've decided to get rid of the last piece of Garmin equipment in my airplane. I'm replacing it with the Avidyne audio panel as everything else I have is Avidyne. Works perfectly, I just want an all Avidyne setup. $750 including shipping. [I'll get better photos at the airport tomorrow but this was from about six months ago.]
  3. Garmin GNS 430W , PRICE: $6999, currently installed waiting for removal during upgrade. INCLUDED: GNS-430W WAAS 14-28 VOLT ..P/N...011-01060-00 sn# 23487894 NEW MOUNTING TRAY NEW BACKPLATE PILOTS GUIDE CONNECTORS THIS UNIT LOOKS AND WORKS GREAT AND WILL MAKE AN EXCELLENT ADDITION TO YOUR AIRCRAFT
  4. Hello all, The time has come for my annual database renewal and I'm leaning toward the Garmin OnePak to try it out. I saw a few posts here from last year about people switching to Garmin for the price decrease and it is worthwhile. My questions are more about anything to do with the quality of the data. Has anyone noticed any issues such as approaches not being available, missing airports or anything like that? Or has it generally been a seamless transition?
  5. We recently had a GTX 330ES installed in our Mooney to meet the upcoming ADS-B Out requirement. We also have a GDL39 for ADS-B In info. I expected now that we're ADS-B compliant that I would start receiving more info from the ground stations. That has not happened, and I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions or experience on the topic. To recap, we have GTX 330ES (configured to report Dual in capability) GDL 39 3D Garmin Pilot (running on Samsung Tab S) GNS 480 The top left corner of the map page shows 2 icons related to incoming info on the GDL. Air to Air shows correctly. The antenna icon shows a red X. In the ADSB settings page, it reports "Full TIS-B Traffic" as "No". On "Ownship detected" there is also a "No". Garmin tech support has been somewhat helpful by pointing out that the ES needs to report the UAT In capability to the stations. That is now set correctly (I think), but still no TIS-B or ownship. They have offered no suggestions to confirm that I have Pilot and the GDL set up correctly. They are mostly pointing fingers at the ES, and suggesting I ask a Garmin dealer about the issue. I did have Full TIS-B and ownship detected about a year ago when I was regularly flying a ADS-B compliant 182.
  6. Garmin GTX 327 removed for upgrade to ADS B. $500. Works perfectly, yellow tag from install. $500. Shipping included to US. PM me for more info. Rags.
  7. Apologies in advance, but I searched and can't find the answer. I just installed the 210, along with the Garmin 345 in order to have ADS B (TCAS, weather, etc). The included Flightstream info is REALLY light (read nothing there, really). I have my iPad paired up, but haven't had a chance to see what it and I can do. I have a pair of 340s installed, one WAAS, and understand I can upload the flightplan. I also seem to recall I can DOWNLOAD wx and traffic to the iPad. I also have a previously installed XM receiver, and a third party tablet installed, but the old tablet is VERY touchy. I'd rather upload the XM stuff to the iPAD, which is new and shiny. Lots of questions, I'm sorry again. Any answers or advice? Thanks, Dave
  8. It looks like I'm pulling and trading in most of my Garmin products for Avidyne. Out: Garmin 530W, 430W, 330ES, GDL-88 & GDL-69A In: Avidyne IFD-540, 440 (with WiFi & BT), AXP340 & SkyTrax 100 Keeping: GMA-340, KFC-150, KAS297B, KCS-55A, WX10A, Shading Miniflo & EI GEM (that will be the next upgrade)
  9. I guess I never really thought about it, but when I get VTF on an approach, it is usually heading, turn, etc. but today flying into KISM the controller asked if I was RNAV capable (yes) and said my approach would be the RNAV 6. Then he gave me direct TONTY. I dialed up the approach, but when I went to select TONTY, there was nothing. ForeFlight to the rescue. TONTY is the name of the FAF and once I realized it was, I asked for a heading to it. Not having years of instrument flying under my belt, I had never encountered this and wanted to see if it is fairly normal or not. He never told me TONTY was the FAF - that came from ForeFlight. And my 430W did not have it named. Is it normal to be given direct to the FAF by name, and if so, do the 650/750's have the name associated in the approach? Or is this what charts are for?
  10. Just wanted to put it out there: If anyone is in need of avionics services in the California Central Valley or Bay Area, we would love the opportunity to earn your business! Tripp Walker Velocity Avionics FAA CRS# 2VER931C Modesto, CA. (KMOD) Toll Free: (888) 545-8399 www.VelocityAvionics.com
  11. New GTN650, which includes the installation tray, factory wire harness, but no antenna. Unfortunately, due to a family issue, I won't be installing this unit at this time. Everything is new in the box. The USA base maps and initial update certificate are included. Message me if interested. I have ~$9000 invested.
  12. I've just had the GTX345 installed in my G1000 equipped Ovation with S-Tec autopilot (29-0363) - one of the first installations in Australia. Firstly the background of ADSB Down Under. For some inexplicable reason, installation was mandated in Australia for IFR not later than the middle of 2017, which means we are the test subjects, and will pay a hefty premium. About 10 years ago when ADSB was in the early implementation stage, the authorities were going to subsidise ADSB, but it's been conveniently forgotten. Since then the cost has skyrocketed, not helped at all by the fact that early adopters of glass panels with S-Tec autopilots have not got any meaningful support from Mooney, and my feeling is Garmin only came out with a G1000 solution when they did to head off the competition. Anyway, having stumped up the money for the GTX-345 installation and expecting a positive result, the G1000 does not recognise the GTX345. The only way to enable it is to go into the configuration menu, tell the G1000 the GTX345 is installed, and then it will display. When powered down, the configuration procedure has to be repeated. I'm still not sure whether it's a software or hardware problem, but Garmin have been slow to resolve it. My concerns are the longer the Ovation sits in the shop, the more cost it will attract, my aircraft is not available until the issue is resolved. The avionics shop asked Garmin to replace the GTX345 but were told no, there was too much of a backlog, so it seems Garmin care less about existing customers and more about new ones.
  13. I know that Jeppesen software will produce flight plans that can be loaded into the Garmin 696. Does anyone know of other software that will do so? I have Foreflight but that doesn't appear to do so.
  14. I have a GTX320 transponder for sale. This was recently removed for an ADSB upgrade. Included is the tray and backplates. It was working fine when removed. They seem to be going for $900ish on eBay. I'll take $600 or best offer.
  15. Starting to sell off stuff from my recent panel install. First to go is a package of the following: GPS: Garmin GNC300XL IFR Approach GPS/ Comm with tray. Annunciation control unit for above: Garmin MD41-444. CDI with GPS input: Collins IND350A GPS/VOR/LOC. GPS antenna. I can throw in the comm antenna too if you want it. No connectors or cables included. A serviceable tagged GNC300XL alone can run >$3000. All this stuff was installed in my plane in 2009, well before my purchase of it last year, and was working when removed a couple of months ago. But none is yellow-tagged. So I think $1500 for the whole package is reasonable.
  16. Grrr...experiencing obnoxious squelch breaks on my newly installed GTN650, along with a new belly com antenna. Work was done by an experienced Garmin dealer that I'm fairly sure does not suck. Didn't happen at all for the test flight when picking up. Then it happened the first couple of flights, but just on the ground. This weekend it happened continuously for 30 minutes, driving me bonkers and making me switch to the serviceable SL30 I had put in at the same time (which works perfect). Ideally, the new >10k radio would work better than the 3k nav/com that I just use to listen to ATIS. I'm trying to look into the factory setup settings myself using the handy internet- the manual is no help. But I hate to give up a bunch of range on the radio to solve this problem. I know this has been a fairly common problem, but I would have figured that the bugs would be out by now given the units have been around for a while. Before I bug the dealer and or Garmin, would folks please share how they ultimately got their GTN650 squelch issues resolved? Hoping this will be easy, and I won't end up regretting I didn't go with Avidyne.

  23. Does anyone have one of these? I have "been with Apple" since '84 and own multiple products of theirs and aside from macs/ipads/iphones at home I also work with them at the office. My son just got an $800 Apple watch and the force is strong now for me to get one as well... ...but... ...the D2 Bravo is just so aviation... ...and it is cheaper! I noticed that it runs apps that they call widgets, which is a big plus for me. Help a fellow pilot out. If I saw a D2 Bravo with a Mooney logo behind the watch face I would probably cave, but Apple could do that as well.
  24. I've spent months considering how to upgrade my technology-deficient panel to get the best situational awareness bang for my buck, as well as get ADS-b compliance over with. I'd settled on: (1) a Garmin GTN650 (2) trading in my geriatric Bendix KT76A transponder for the inexpensive, plug and play KT74 for ADS-b out (3) using the Stratus 2 with ForeFlight for traffic and weather. It makes sense for me to stay with ForeFlight, as this is what I've gotten somewhat adept at using as a newbie pilot. I could instead get a Garmin GDL88 to put traffic and weather on the GTN650, but the added expense for this info on the small screen doesn't seem worth it, and I don't really have the panel space or budget for a large MFD in my '68C. So I figure let the ipad do some of the work. BUT then I see this: https://buy.garmin.com/en-US/US/in-the-air/avionics-safety/sat-comm/flight-stream-110-210/prod153681.html For 0.5-1amu, you can transfer nav data from your ipad to the GTN650. Sounds awesome, particularly as I hope to start instrument training soon. I'm guessing this kind of ipad integration is the future. But the catch right now is that you have to use Garmin Pilot instead of ForeFlight. Ok, so maybe I'll suck it up and learn to use the other app and also get a Garmin GDL39 instead of the Stratus for ADS-b in. The problem is, Garmin Pilot is not nearly as loved as Foreflight, with the strong negative opinions encapsulated here: http://flythewing.com/308/Blog/Entries/2015/1/12_Garmin_Must_Buy_ForeFlight.html How are others with finite budgets and scant panel space working through these issues? Will there be ForeFlight-Garmin integration soon, and I should do my original install plan? Should I switch to Garmin Pilot? Should I wait a bit longer to let the Foreflight vs Garmin market shake out? My parents went with Sony BetaMax in the late 70's, and I don't want to repeat their mistakes...
  25. Selling our little 1963 Mooney that was used to back up our 351 Rocket. She is a fast and economical plane, cruises at 165kts on 12.5gph at FL 150 and does 170kts at FL 180. Down low without the manual Rajay turbo it will cruise at 150kts all day long. Has 12 gallon auxiliary tank in the rear and the standard 48 gallons in the wings. Since we purchased it we: re-sealed both tanks got a new paint job And added: Aspen EFIS Garmin GTX330 Mode "S" transponder with traffic (ready for ADS- (Traffic displayed on Aspen and Garmin) PS Engineering top of the line Audio Sytem with recall and bluetooth Garmin 400Waas GPS coupled to the Stec-50 AP with GPSS (Flyes approaches to minimums) Dual King Radios Garmin 496 in the dash for weather JPI 730 With: Progressive maintenance at MSC (Weber) The plane has pretty much every speed modification available for a Ranger including: 201 windshield Gap seals Rear vertical stabilizer fairings Leading edge wing fairings Cowl closure 231 dash Additionally, 92AV has a great manual Rajay turbo. It has the battery relocated to the rear, dual oil filter systems, Mena Aircraft engine (785h), Plane Power alternator, plus one oxygen bottle with 4 cannulas included for the winning buyer! We have all records and paperwork for the aircraft (one thick folder of pure STC stuff alone). Main wing spar was replaced by previous owner (Maintenance Director for Southwest Airlines). No corrosion at all anywhere (pics are all available). We have flown >900nm non-stop (take it FL170 with the turbo and then decrease power to 50% and continue at 150kts burning 7.4gph) without having to install Monroe tanks (would make this a 1300nm+ airplane if you can handle it) PRICE $55,000. Aircraft is located at KMPO. We can help with transporting it for reasonable distances and coverage of out of pocket costs. Private message me or call Otto at (570) 807-7513.
