  1. I have selected M20J profile on SD, but I'd like to make changes to the W&B data to reflect my aircraft. I am struggling to understand the lever arm unit LON. I have searched but wasn't successful. Any help would be appreciated. It'd be also helpful to have multiple profiles on SD for one type. If someone has made, could you share either with me or over SD forum and they would be uploaded by SD people for everyone to choose.
  2. Flying across europe i have been controlled by air police who asked me if i have the airport data base. I use the updated garmin in GTN750, and also as back up my IPAD with Skydemon installed. Also i am checking 15mn before to perform RNP GNSS approach that RAIM is available.
  3. In Europe, SkyDemon or Autorouter do W&B as well - but no takeoff performance. The above explained approach has the advantage of being available immediately before takeoff without fiddling in my smartphone, and the same immediately before landing (to determine optimal final approach speed). Works well for me.
  4. SkyDemon gets mentioned a few times... just not very often... See if any of this helps... https://mooneyspace.com/search/?q=Skydemon Best regards, -a-
  5. Simply enter the respective station's position in the unit you have selected in your global settings, i.e. either inches or centimetres. I struggle to understand your second question. You can have as many aircraft of the same type in your data base as you like, e.g. with different empty weight, fuel capacity or what ever. Just assign a different name, e.g. the tail number of the aircraft. SkyDemon is a European product probably not known to most US pilots which form the majority here. You may want to address questions very specific to Europe and not specific to Mooney in a European forum like EuroGA or even the SW vendor's forum in this case.
  6. My iPad mini 3 shuts down frequently in cruise. It runs Jeppesen & Skydemon and uses a Bad Elf gps dongle. When I take it off my leg & direct the overhead airduct towards it, it seems to cope.
  7. Problem in Europe is there are so many disjointed (and many dysfunctional!) governments with different ideas on taxes and luxuries that there is a vast variation, and that is before you get into exchange rates! Cheapest tends to be in the Channel Islands (a bit over GBP 1 per litre, about USD5 per gallon), but it can be depressingly easy to stumble across EUR 3.5 a litre (USD 15 per gallon) The Flyer forum has some prices (but very UK biased) at https://forums.flyer.co.uk/viewforum.php?f=33 , Tom and Alex used to maintain https://tmdg.co.uk/misc/fuel.php but I see that's not had an update for a year or so Personally I get such a good deal at my home base (club fuel, for members only) I tend to tanker enough to do my return trip as much as possible, but where I have to purchase away, I'll refer to SkyDemon (which is the "Foreflight for Europe" type app)
  8. The skydemon app which is the most popular in Europe for vfr pilots has pretty up to date avgas prices, if you pull up the skydemon plate for an airport you will normally see an avgas report that is pretty recent. Generally and for a strange reason France is pretty much the cheapest for avgas, and is the most GA friendly environment, about 1.89 euros a liter compare to Italy where it can be up to 2.6 a liter, Germany , Poland and the Czech republic about 2.4 euros, down around the Adriatic you can get down to around 2 euros a liter again and some beautiful islands to fly to. The channel islands off the coast of france you can get 1.4 a litre, Belgrade you can get tax free at about 1.2 a litre also if you feel comfortable you can buy super 98 (94aki) in Europe which has etbe instead of ethanol and it works fine, but you can only buy that at Austrian airfields and in certain countries at forecourts - about 1.45 a litre
  9. Is your GTX330 a GTX330ES?. in the GTX line only the GTX345 is ADSB-out&IN... the GTX330ES and GTX335 are out only and need to be paired with your WAAS position source to be fully compliant with 2020 requirements. Garmin has had an upgrade plan for 1-2AMU to upgrade to the ES version. Any traffic in with your GTX330 will be TIS-A traffic only... which is a mode S service.. not related to ADSB. I will need to read exactly what ADSB in the UK is going to be... looks like some UAT (just for weather and aux services).. but mostly the rest of the world expects 1090ES for traffic only.. The USA did traffic in both 1090ES and UAT with ground repeating so that radar (mode c & mode s) are blended with ADSB (ES and UAT) and retransmitted by ground stations for traffic in an envelope around your plane. the ground can't know what your envelope is without ADSB-out..so you don't get a complete traffic picture on your IN unless you have OUT. If the UK ground stations are not retransmitting ground radar then it doesn't matter. If you want a specific history of UAT, why the US is using it for traffic and why the rest of the world isn't we can discuss at the Summit. So, the quick start is to get an ADSB-IN receiver (dual frequency).. that will give you the UAT weather... and you will see any 1090ES transponders. At this time I would go with a sentry http://flywithsentry.com Dual band, + CO sensor. but your choice of tablet mapping software dictates your portable unit.. Foreflight, garmin, skydemon etc. Then upgrade your GTX330 to the ES model, then other people can see you. If the UK is doing radar rebroadcast you will then also see what they see.. mode C and mode S targets around your current position as well as 1090ES transmitters in line of sight.
  10. I check my CC bills: ~$4k for the trip. $2.7k for avgas, $350 for two nights (aibnb in Iqaluit, airport hotel in Reykjavik), $600 for landing and handling fees, rest for food, skydemon subscription, etc. I already own a raft, dry diving suit, ELT transmitter, portable radio etc. No expenses for renting. I know you can get a 1st class commercial ticket for that money ... I currently have two residencies, one in the US and one in Germany. I am looking forward to flying in Europe this summer and will eventually fly the Mooney back to the US next year
  11. About time Jepp woke up and took some action - maybe partly a result of going to avionics manufacturers and telling them to allow us to use any other data source, particularly for charts, or maybe an eventual outcome from a meeting I went to in Crawley in 2012 with AOPA and PPL/IR to bitch about their product pricing. At the beginning of the year my sub for 480 and 430 navdata, and MX20 IFR charts for only just France came to EUR1200 (and the chart cover was rubbish). Now for navdata, obstacle and terrain data all for a pair of Avidynes, and charts for all of Central Europe comes to a more reasonable EUR800 (although will have to see what the chart coverage is like) It still doesn't compare with SkyDemon (EU version of Foreflight I think) though, which is about EUR80 per year for all IFR charts and the majority of VFR charts, but unfortunately SkyDemon doesn't plug into my autopilot etc!
  12. This? http://www.skydemon.aero/help/manual.pdf or Garmin D2? http://www.mypilotstore.com/MyPilotStore/sep/9594?qryrmv=1&ppcs=google&ppcg=4-95&keyword=garmin%20d2&gclid=COGqzYvykckCFYMYHwodRkUDQA Could not find a Demon D2... If you only have 5 AMU. Try to stay with the tried and true tools that other Mooney pilots are using. You get lots of support that way. Best regards, -a-
  13. I record my Hobbs hours for academic interest, but I use the FAR 1 definition for time in service and record takeoff to landing time manually (actually as captured by Skydemon running on my iPad).... "Time in service, with respect to maintenance time records, means the time from the moment an aircraft leaves the surface of the earth until it touches it at the next point of landing."
  14. Google is your friend. I just searched on "iPad aviation apps Europe" and this popped up: http://ipadpilotnews.com/2012/02/skydemon-brings-full-ipad-aviation-app-to-european-pilots/ It is a year old link so I don't know if the app is still around, but could be worth checking out.
  15. well of course mounting on on the right side is easier.. The suction mount is ok on the passenger door (PA28) But i find it does not allow to take advantage of the applications capabilities (i use SkyDemon (VFR) although i don't know what the coverage for the US is) as it is able to warn me of airspaces ahead with frequency to contact, also P,D,R zones, notam areas, etc... (similar to the rail feature described in one of the posts above)
  16. Its the same for the Honeywell units. I have an AV80R was very happy with unitl the SDHC memory card screwed up...This 10$ hardware item can only replced if I pay for new one 180$...I find that a rip off..I already paid for the unit and the Data updates... Jeppesen and Honeywell are tied into one hardware solution, the same for Garmin and some others.... My decision on portable GPS's is I don't want to be locked into a Hardware provider, I pay for the Data usage and updates. This UK company will have great future if they grow and remain affordable. I checked out the soft and its very good! The even provide US charts. What I find a great feature you select the Map overlay you like US or european ICAO SIA, DFS etc.. It even runs on my AV80R after some tweeking..;-))...Windows CE units can be found very cheap, so upgrades to faster units don't have to cost a fortune... The comparison by Pilot is a good one remember what happned with NOKIA, they where very expensive in the beginning but then competition brought them down.........The mobile business has shifted from hardware to services....Aspen is going the right way to make there connected an open sytem..... www.skydemon.aero
