I just closed on a J Mooney that will be based in SWFL. I'm attaching the obligatory airplane and panel photos. I'll get the 2 hour insurance checkout tomorrow and then I look forward to enjoying my new, to me, airplane around and meeting other members. Happy Easter! Paul

Welcome to Mooneyspace! Best of wishes on your transition training. You probably noticed that a previous owner was on here for awhile: https://mooneyspace.com/profile/6895-n57039/ https://mooneyspace.com/search/?q=N57039&quick=1

Wow…. We have discovered one of the earliest MS threads! Alun hasn’t been here in quite some time… haling out of the old England… Runyon and N57039 both sold their planes… Fantom has gone light sport (?), but still visits MS often… Magnum was last seen in Germany a few years ago… Piloto has resurfaced as Gagarin… and will be back again soon…. Say the strong rumors around here… I’m on a mission…. Best regards, -a-

Learned something today/Engine Monitor/mag check
craigsteffen replied to scottfromiowa's topic in General Mooney Talk
Quote: N57039 Many of us do a LOP mag check in the air and don't bother on the ground. The check under load at higher altitude is a much tougher test of the mags performance. -
What is your GPH reading at LOP operation?
KLRDMD replied to scottfromiowa's topic in General Mooney Talk
Quote: N57039 Climb at WOT (wide open throttle) 2700 rpm. Lean as you climb to maintain the same EGT you had as you took off. At cruise dial the prop back to 2500 (or something in that range that is smooth.) -

Lance, Isn't it a little late to find out that you have a mag problem after you have taken off? Quote: N57039 Many of us do a LOP mag check in the air and don't bother on the ground. The check under load at higher altitude is a much tougher test of the mags performance. -
Quote: N57039 Definitely an A&P task. The maintenance manual should address the implications and method for doing this, if it is allowed at all. (I would guess that it is not allowed.)

Quote: N57039 . . . .<snip> If you have a Mooney with an IO360A3B6 Lycoming you can't have ECI cylinders. You can't have the FAA AD action problem on your cylinders. Western Skyways can't be supplying what they offered the OP. What am I missing here?

Quote: N57039 Jeff, Questions on your El Paso - Chicago flight. How many in your family? You had to have been at O2 atitudes for that fuel burn rate. Was everyone on oxygen? Were you anywhere near MGTOW with family, fuel, O2 and bags on board? I use Little John Jrs for my in flight physiological needs on the longer runs. They work great.

Quote: N57039 Sorry, no recommendation for cover, but regarding the fuel caps I can comment. Don't worry about covers; just make sure the 2 o-rings in the caps are fresh. That means changed at least once a year. If they are and the spring tension in the cap is correct, you won't have water leaks from the out side. The o-rings are MS29513-338 and MS29513-010. Make sure BOTH are changed everytime.

Quote: N57039 Craig, I know your to-do list is long. FWIW I would vote that a "Go to first unread post" on each thread is a high priority and will become a must. I hope it's not a big deal.

Quote: N57039 I have the PowerFlow on my 201 and am happy with it. Unfortunately I didn't do any real "before" tests. Therefore I can't give any performance improvement claims. It's a solid, good looking system. I'd be glad to answer any specific questions anyone has about it.

N57039 is an '84 M20J that I've owned with one partner since July 2004. I have 500+ hours in it so far, mostly IFR cross country flying. It's got a great panel and has recently overhauled engine by Zephyrhills Aviation. I started flying gliders many, many years ago and started power in 2000. I've got a little over 1500 hours TT and a Commercial SEL, MEL & Glider with Instrument Airplane. I hope to have an ATP with my first type rating next month. I live in Georgia, have a small business that is a dealer for German built packaging machinery. I'm married with one son, a PP, who also likes flying the Mooney.
