  1. Curious to know if anyone with an AeroCruze 100 and M20C is having the same new problem. ‘76 M20C Ranger. Paid for AP kit some time ago. Kit arrived last month at my avionics shop. Scheduled the install and flew the Mooney down. A day later get a call from shop, aileron pushrods for Aero Cruze aren’t in kit. A call to Duncan was made and apparently not all Mooney’s have the same aileron linkage length, and of course the airplane used for the STC is different from mine. The whole kit is held up by the need for slightly shorter pushrods which we were told needs to be re-STC’d. No predictions or guesses when that will take place. Back to square one.
  2. Planning some panel upgrades for an M20M and see the options are rather limited. I've got the Avidyne 440/540 combo, currently the KFC150 with Altitude/V/S select. Looking at the AeroCruze 230 as it appears to be only one of two certified for the M20's Looking at Aspen's maybe a 1000/500 combo as well. Any feedback on these?
  3. Here are the pictures of Aerocruze 230 or KFC 230 Autopilot I installed in M20K. It was quite challenging install it especially the configurations but overall, I wasn't too bad. Most of the wiring from the KFC 150 could be used for this install. Hint, if you have KFC 150 servos in working condition doesn't mean it will pass the Preflight test on KFC 230. There is a procedure to pass the Preflight test(PFT). If you have any questions regarding this Autopilot or the install, let me know.
  4. Sorry if I'm reviving a dead thread here - but I assume anyone else with interest is still waiting on this like I am. Has anyone heard ang updates on the Aerocruze AP for Mooney M20's? I ordered one in September from Gulf Coast Avionics. I spoke with them today and wad told they're now on indefinite back order. When I ordered it they had estimated 6 months. So, I called and spoke with a tech support rep for Bendix King to ask some other installation questions and brought up the backorder. He told me the rumor is Duncan in preparing the STC did not include all the appropriate part drawing to cover the different M20 models, so they're having to go back and amend the STC. Does anyone know if there is any validity to this? If so, I need to try to get my deposit back....
  5. We currently are waiting for a BK AeroCruze kit. There are some modifications needed. To identify possible differences between M20F and M20G ( most probably they are identical but without picture hard to tell) we would need a picture of the area below the baggage compartment looking aft with belly skin removed. The area around the elevator control tube cutout ( RHD side of fuselage ) is interesting - I have added a pic of our 1967 F. Can anyone help with a picture in same / similar angle of a M20G? Thanks in advance, Florian
  6. Has anyone installed a AeroCruze 230? I am considering going this route as the controller on my M20K BK KFC 150 has frequent issues needing repair. Jeff
  7. No, the Dynon is a new autopilot with new servos. https://www.dynoncertified.com/aml.php#appricing https://www.dynoncertified.com/cessna-182-autopilot.php https://www.dynoncertified.com/upcoming-approvals.php You might have been thinking about the Bendix-King Aerocruze 230 which uses older king servos, or maybe the Avidyne DFC90 which uses STec servos (not approved for Mooney)
  8. Hi Jeff, Thank you so much - that’s what I was expecting- a picture would still be awesome as I promised to send one to Duncan/BK - they need to verify the G model is identical to the F model before doing the STC revision for the Aerocruze Autopilot. Hopefully this will ship soon so we have an alternative there! All the best, Florian
  9. Did you have a chance to take this picture? Would help to get the Aerocruze approved for the vintage Mooney‘s
  10. Forgetting the tax software tangent, I sure am glad I have an STEC-30 with altitude hold...over six years of reliable service. Not a chance in Hell I'd replace it with this AeroCruze gizmo!
  11. Very interesting, but that would be a pain for those of us who would consider AeroCruze in our short body Mooneys if we needed a FSDO approval after buying the STC’d kit… -Don
  12. Update. Apparently the avionics folks who were working on my Ranger discovered the aileron pushrods for the Piper AeroCruze install would work for the Ranger. Not desiring to take on liability for an informal fix, they are currently petitioning the local FSDO for a one time approval for my aircraft. Reasoning that since the part is already approved in another install, should work for me. We will see. Holidays have slowed all processes down and I flew the Ranger back home until I hear about some resolve.
  13. As a person interested in the aerocruze 100 auto pilot I’d be very interested in getting more information about which models the auto pilot is compatible with. Is the issue short body vs mid or is it an early Mooney vs. later Mooney issue? I was under the impression that we all essentially had the same wing? If you wouldn’t mind, could you tell me the part number that is incompatible with the auto pilot? If I had that I could check my parts manual and possibly determine compatibility. Thanks,
  14. Nav coupler in my KAP 150 has gone bad. I am wanting to replace it with the AeroCruze 230, but it is a replacement for the KFC 150, not KAP. My Mooney is a 1992 M20J with Garmin G500, GTN 750, GTN 650, GAD 43 for analog to KAP 150, and all other supporting hardware. I considered Garmin GFC 500, but you have to install a G5. I already have a MidContinent standby attitude indicator, so going the Garmin route will give me 3 attitude indicators on a very small panel, which I consider overkill and excessive clutter. By replacing with the AeroCruze 230, I use the existing location and keep my panel clean! Has anyone replaced their KAP 150 and can give me some input as to downtime and expense? All advice is appreciated.
  15. Or I believe you can install a GI 275 which is a much more robust unit. Yes, pricier than the G5, but you should be able to drop it in where your AeroCruze 230 currently is located and get a lot more out of the required upgrade. And I really haven't done much research on autopilots, but seems like a lot of people have S-Tec. Is that an option for you?
  16. I was on your same shoes last year. Honestly, I got tired of waiting for the Aerocruze to be approved for Mooneies. I decided to go with the GFC500 and haven’t looked back. The most economical route is to do the G5’s with your IA or installer, then have a shop install the GFC500. For what I’ve seen, the Aerocruze kits are shipping incomplete, I saw a post last week on here talking about incorrect aileron linkages and Duncan is providing zero support for it. 17. Has anyone placed an order with Duncan aviation for the Aerocruze 100 autopilot? If so, did they supply the installation paperwork yet? I would like to have a look at the installation manual if possible. Thanks in advance. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  18. On 7 January 1977 it was 45.7". By 2010 it was 46.68" (might be an error in there somewhere but maybe not). A year ago it was 46.74" before I swapped out the boat-anchor Prestolite starter for a Sky-Tec. That alone moved it back to 47.07". All of those are from recalculations over the years, although I do have to trim nose-down a lot. I just ordered an Aerocruze 100 autopilot, and when that gets here (however long that takes), I'll remove the Century III which has a lot of big boxes on the avionics shelf and servos in the tail and re-weigh it after the new autopilot is in. I'm eager to see the actual W&B after all that is done.
  19. Any one replace their KFC 200 with Aerocruze 230? If so would like to hear any view on the subject.
  20. We have a Mooney M20F with a Dynon HDX installed in Summer 2021 . We had hope the Dynon AP would be certified but looks like it will not happen for the F model so now we are running out of options. Has anyone actually received a Aerocruze kit for the Mooney or is it still only existing on paper? Thanks everyone for the help! Florian
  21. Here's an email I just got form AC Spruce "I have been contacted by purchasing department and have been informed that the vendor has cancelled this order they are unable to produce this product and have no ETA on when they will have the materials to produce. We do apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. Thank you."
  22. Just got word from A/C that they need payment for the Aerocruze A/P now so they can send it to BK for shipment They say its a "special order:' and payment before shipping is needed. Anyone else in this boat ? I don't know if I want 6K hanging out there hoping that the stuff will ship "sometime in the future"
  23. For those of you who get the online Mooney magazine, The Mooney Flyer, there was an announcement posted of STC approval for the AeroCruze 100 for M20’s. Shocked and reeling in disbelief, I had to read it twice, nay, three times to verify what I was seeing. I called Chris at Duncan Aviation and sure enough those folks got it through. The autopilots will be ordered through Duncan. They are building a list now of M20 owners and which specific control head they want. That list goes to BK and then we wait for the parts to be produced and kits built for Duncan. Chris told me 90 days but I’m betting min of six months. Prices vary among the six available kits by less than $200. They all come in a hair under 6 grand unless BK decides to change it. Considering all the crazy stuff going on with this economy, a 1 AMU over the original TT price seems pretty reasonable. Chris at Duncan is a super nice guy and already deluged with emails and calls from us CB vintage Mooney drivers…
  24. I spoke to Bendix King and supposedly in the next 4 weeks, the AeroCruze 100 AP will be STC'd for the Mooney's minus the real early models. FYI. Will update more on Mooneyspace as I find more out.
  25. Does anyone know if there is in the works for more Aspen Max compatible Auto pilots out there? I had the Aerocruze 230 lined up for install and my installer at the last minute realized that the Auro Cruze wasn't just a plug-in replacement for my KFC 150(despite being advertised). It required it's own ADHRS module for another $3500 since BK has not pursuded using the ASPN MAX . At best the aspen would talk with the 230 no better than it did with my KFC 150. Yes it would/should be an improvement with having a smarter brain, but I was annoyed that BK is once again overpromising and under delivering again. I love to see the GFC 600 STC'd to the M20. S-tec got back to me and they're not pursing STC'ing the Mooney for the 3100, Avidyne is not pursing with the DFC90. The GFC 500 requires a G5 and I doubt Garmin will create a module for the GFC 500 to talk with the MAX for ADHRS . Decided to pursue other avionic upgrades while I wait, but it's only time when either a servo or a module dies.
