  1. Hi Tom,

This is Neil in Germantown. N5687Q is AOG at KTYS and should be repaired next week. If you fly east to the lunch next Saturday would you be willing to offer my partner or me a seat? I would then look for someone else at the lunch flying back toward Knoxville and hopefully avoid having a long RT drive to retrieve our C.

Get the quote in writing..lol     Good luck, please do not share our conversation. There is a lot of avionics it lots of warranty left, since they installed it I'm sure I'll need them later.

      Great talking with you today,

I understand..Jerry had quoted my project, but the bill was not near the quote. We will be having a "meeting" next week. My annual this go round was $3950. The shops base is $2K then whatever required. Does not include my oil, filter and Camguard. Only thing he noted was a plug that looked bad, so he replaced all 8. I'm still filtering the invoices. My final bill was about $10K higher than the original quote for everything. Next annual I'll probably use Same Jewell at Kennett.

      Neil,

I going to have to pass on the lunch trip. Besides the compass issues (that actually did arrive via UPS late today) there have been some employee issues at my business that have come up. Looks like probably no flying at all Friday and likely Saturday as well.

Sorry I can't help out and hate that I will miss the Mooney group. If you ever get down this way again please look me up and we can grab lunch. Enjoy the Mooney lunch if you get go. Sorry for the let down.

Not looking real good...Mail has run and it did not show up. UPS has not run yet so it still is possible. Please look at all options. I just don't want you to bank on me. I'll be glad to do it if I can, but don't want to ruin your day by having to bail at the last minute. I think the guy at Chief said they would be drop shipping by UPS, but he did not give me tracking info.

I was looking at the map last night and "if" we can make it happen to avoid Memphis Class B and such a big detour I was thinking maybe KFYE as a pick-up spot. I know it's across town for you, but makes life easier for me..especially since this is my first real flight with the new avionics and so forth.

Please reach out and see if there are any other options for you guys. I want help a brother out, but don't want to be the reason you can't get your bird. Just one of those situations.

I'm really hoping so.. They said it should be here tomorrow. I can let you know for sure as soon as the mail/UPS run. If it looks like a plug-n-play deal I'll be in. Sorry I can't be more definite, just having to roll with it. I assume they are for sure going to be done with yours and ready to pick it up? Keep and eye out for alternates, but if there is any possible way I'll be more than happy to help you out.

I hear you..Kind of frustrating. My JPI-930 was the first full 930 they've  installed and they are still working some bugs out as far as fuel settings/accuracy, a few other minor issues. If I was not just across the river from them and the convenience of being 10 minute drive I'm sure I would consider other options..

It amazes me that they don't actually fly a plane after they work them and do installs. I'm not sure anyone there is current and has endorsements for anything other than PP. No complex, HP or multi.

They did all my work and gave me a quick tour of the highlights of how it all worked and told me to go fly for 30 minutes and see if everything was okay..That was a little nerve racking. Good thing I did some very light homework on how the stuff was supposed to work before I picked it up.

Okay.. I'll keep you posted and you can let me know if it's looking like they will be done with it. I'm ordering a new compass this afternoon..Hopefully that will arrive and I can get it put quickly. My "cup and mount" broke so the post compass is just hanging temporary. I really don't want to be flying long legs with a compass zip tied to the center post. The shop accidently broke the mount and did a half-ass job repairing it and it lasted about a half day.

Anyway..no problem and we can keep each other updated.

      Neil,

Should be able to.. Just got the plane back and want some seat time this week. I also noticed a compass problem I'm going to have them look at before I venture off very far. I would be more than happy to take you or your partner. Not sure if I'm going solo or not, but we can certainly manage a third no problem. I should know more within the next couple of days. Where do you want to be picked up if we can make it happen?

If you still need the shaft(s), and haven't yet tried either, contact Alan Fox 856 419 5209 or  jerrypressley 423 231 3491

Give my regards to Jerry if you call him (he & I flew down to DR in my E to have it painted)....

  12. Alan,

Do you happen to have any E model yoke shafts? I need some badly. I bought a new set of Yokes that came with shafts and they do not fit correctly.

If you have any and could help me out that would be great. Let me know.

    Thanks,

Do you know if the earlier years were the same or was there a difference in the 73-74 Es verses the earlier models?

  14. Hello,

I saw that you got your Brittain Accu-Trak installed @ Caruthersville Avionics. We used to live there and I got my PPL while they were located @ Dyersburg. Duane Patterson was my instructor @ DYR. Is the Accu-Track the only upgrade you did to your PC system. If so, how do you actually use it; is it coupled to a gps/vor etc. I've been speaking with Cecilia @ Brittian and she has suggested adding the Accu-Trak and Accu-Flite to my PC. I have come up with the BI-805 valve and the B-11 controller. Both look like they need to be sent in for overhaul/testing etc. I have the Apollo GX-55 GPS and Nav's with Glideslope and ILS. I'm considering speaking with the Caruthersville Avionics folks to see if they would want to do the install since Brittain is so backed up. I have been on Brittain's list for a good long time. They say I'm at the top of the list now but they can't get mine done until the end of the summer. Thanks for any info you can provide. Tom

Sounds good. Duane is just keeping his feet wet. I think his primary teaching days are getting finished. I'm not sure if I'll have him do my IFR or another instructor.

I do plane to sell the 830 so I let you know when they get it out..Order time is about 6 weeks on new STEC stuff, so it will be a few months. I'll keep you posted.

      Take care,

      Tom,

We lots in common. Actually Duane was who got me current again after a 20+ year layoff. He is still doing some instruction here in Dyersburg.

As far as the Accu-Trak goes. It's coupled to my GTN750. I also have the valve installed to turn it off and on. I have the Accu Track 2. It does okay holding a heading..as I said in some of my posts it does take some time settle in. If you have not had the head unit checked by Brittian it is worth while. I sent mine off and they had a few components to replace, but it was reasonable cost wise. As far as Accu Flight goes, yes there is a waiting list. I do not have that.

Jerrie and Chris at Caruthersville did my avionics install. They did a good job considering it was not something they do all the time (Accu Trak).

I guess if I was not trying to pursue the IFR I would leave well enough alone and just  use my current set-up.

The note on my plane is due for a re-fi so I've been trying to get all my ducks lined up on my wish list so I'm considering the Auto-Pilot upgrade to more modern technology, either STec 30 with GPSS or STec55X. I no knocking my Brittian, it has served me well the past few years. I would just like to update..at the same time I'm going to upgrade my JPI 830 to a 900 for a primary, redoing my hacked up dash from all the upgrades and changes over the years and also having them put in the remote audio for my GTN750.

If you have any other questions let me know or if you are ever at Dyersburg, look me up and we can grab lunch and talk Mooney..

  16. Steve,

If you don't get any other takers on the starter I can go $300. No insult in the offer. Just wasn't budgeting for one, but on the other hand I'm sure I'll need it some time soon. Mine sounds a little weak at times. Never hurts to have a spare. Just wrote a tax check to Uncle Same so the budget is kind of tight.  I'm in TN 38024 if interested.

That sounds fine about Paypal. What's the PP address and I'll send it as a gift/personal..save the fees. As far as the oil change goes, I agree. I like tinkering and have some experience. I guess the oil change on the Mooney would not be that difficult. His complaint is always how tight it is behind the dash. He has been working on it for 4 or 5 years and installed everything from GTN750, GDL88, strobes, A/P  and so on..You would think he would get over it. Today he said running the wire to the panel was a pain in the arse. Some things he prices good, others I think he goes for the moon. He has done my annuals since I've owned it and they typically run $1800-2000. So he is about on par most of the time.

Anyway, back to the starter..What's the Paypal and thanks for doing the deal?..

      Shipping will be to:

Sounds good, no big deal. I just had to write a check to my AP a few hours ago for a oil change and to run a power wire for pulse landing light..$550 dollars to change oil and run a wire , I feel so violated.
