  1. I've stopped on the Eastern Shore several time flying between NC & ME. KSBY one time but MOAs were hot and ATC routed me around them. I've used KMFV several times. Fast in and out, self service fuel at good price, and perfect fix from which to get IFR routing over JFK without detours. No restaurant at airport but if you wanted to stay an hour or two the town of Melfa and the quaint Onancock is nearly. The attendants were friendly. Caution, if it's a blustery day the wind is likely to be across the single runway 3/21.
  2. I have a PowerFlowSystem. I dropped Jim Shafer a note earlier this evening for their comment.
  3. LOP lowers CHT but probably not EGT. I usually run either 100 (or more) ROP or about 40 LOP so ROP is cooler EGT by 60F.
  4. I redid my interior in 2012 and my A&P signed off but I did send the (automotive) materials - carpet, headliner, leather - to Skandia for flame spread testing. I'll extrapolate the results to say that materials approved for automotive will easily pass the aviation standards. The only issue might be getting a sample of each material to send to the lab if the installation was done in the past w/o records of the materials used...
  5. Sounds like the gear was down. My old E model trues @ 158 k @ 75% on about 10.5 gph ROP. FWIW The e6b says 135 ias @ 10,500 = 162 at std conditions. 142 ias would be 170.
  6. His (new) website invites email inquiry but I don't think they provide it. Send him a FAX. You do remember that technology?
  7. His web site is current but I don't see an email: http://coleaviationparts.com/ Cole Aviation 4485 Airport Road SE Dalton, GA 30721 706.271.0222 Phone 706.271.0226 Fax
  8. No fuel @ KTGI, is there? I've been using nearby KMFV for a fuel stop between NC and ME.
  9. "Thunder" you've received a lot of good advice already. I would add that when looking for a 30 or more year old plane there are probably more important issues than whether it is a C, E, F or J. While the F and J have 10" more back seat leg room, they won't automatically have more useful load. My E can and certainly has carried 3 & 4 adults on 2 hour or more legs. The back seat folks generally comment that they had more room than in the back of the bus in an airliner. So, while I agree there seem to be bargain prices on Js at the moment, be careful to give proper value to the expensive elements. Engine time - the difference between a fresh engine and a run out one might approach $30k, panel - the difference between legacy radios, no autopilot etc minimal engine instruments and a modern panel is more than that $30k. Add to those considerations the airframe and aesthetics - has the plane been hangered? Paint, interior, neglected maintenance, possible corrosion... Finally, you should be aware that Cs Es and Fs may be original or they might have been modified with many of the tweaks that allowed the J to get 20 knots out of the same 200 hp. If I were in your shoes I would look at all 4 models and try to find a bird that the prior owners had taken good care of and spent real money modernizing. You'll pay twice as much as he/she did for anything you have to add. Happy hunting!
  10. Brian, our anniversary (50!) is coming up in July and we are still looking for a good idea -- involving the Mooney. Tangier was on our radar last year but I wonder if July is the best time to visit there. I'll be interested in your report!
  11. Cody, curious, when you "ground adjust" such a prop does the pitch of each blade remain the same? IOW, could 3 blades be set to optimize take off and the other for cruise?
  12. My 1st M20E swallowed a valve @ 5000' over NJ many years ago. I pulled the throttle back to idle and with an airfield @ 12 o'clock and 10 miles the rest of the flight was much like yours. Good job!
  13. December 2012: $3795 + $60 CB, cable, & misc supplies + 7 man hours (= $525) install. (Work was done while a lot of other panel work resulting in savings in install time.
  14. +++ for the Lock Haven service. When we installed a EDM 930 the avionics shop doing the work was sure the senders were not usable, they'd been modified, were mismatched and the Mooney savvy A&P next door opined one looked like a marine sender. However we sent them to PA who verified they were both Mooney approved parts and reconditioned them for what I thought was a very fair price. It's been 18+ months and the fuel quantity info is wonderful relative to any other plane I've flown.
  15. Chris, FWIW, my PFD: MAP ver: 2.6 IOP ver.: 2.0.3 s/n: 11889 auto zoom is set "on" in both ARC and 360 modes.
  16. I would not think there's a connection. My well balanced IO-360 remained well balanced after the engine tear down OH. Cam and lifters were replaced but not valves or cylinders. New rings. Mags were replaced but fuel distribution system, injectors, were not effected.
  17. Chris, I had not noticed the auto zoom feature. I do know that the compass and ARC can be set on different ranges which are preserved when toggled. Waypoints and VORs are displayed. My new panel, including the PFD, was completed in November 2012, I'll have to make note of the rev.#. With the larger screen GTN750 beside it I frankly have not spent a lot of time exploring the graphics of the Aspen. There's so much good text info there, TAS, Winds, ALT alert, etc. I keep keep the ALT set, the BARO set, HDG set, GPSS on/off... I have approach plates on both the 750 and the 696 but I will not continue those costs at the next renewal. I have XM radio on the 696 playing jazz. Nice. Now I just have to work in a little time to look out the window. Scan management 101, I guess.
  18. Hum, I don't see the graphic airport displays when in 360 mode. I note my pics are all @ 30 nm range while my ARC pics are tighter... that might be the difference. I get all the text info you have on the PFD but the only graphics are the airports. My stormscope is a WX900 w/o pass through capability. I have NEXRAD, traffic, etc through the GDM 88 rather than XM and none of that info passes to the PFD, I don't know if it could. But the 750 display is fine. Do you get traffic or weather on your Aspens?
  19. Chris, when the Aspen is in ARC mode it displays airports. I suppose that info if from the BU GPS but I don't know for sure.
  20. No, just on the 750. The only graphic info I've seen displayed on the EFD is airports.
  21. Frank, I had my panel redone ~18 months ago by Robbie Greer, Twin Lakes Avionics, @ 8A7. (Advance NC, near Winston Salem) www.greeraerospace.com/ New Aspen EFD 1000P, GTN750, GDL88, GTX327, GMA340, JPI EDM 930 plus complete fabrication of the panel. http://mooneyspace.com/gallery/image/33692-new-panel-dec-2012/ I am well satisfied. Not a single call back or squawk from all that work. We kept a WX900 Stormscape, Stec50, and KX155. They integrated all that including hard wiring for GPS696. And unlike some projects reported here, it was completed pretty close to schedule.
  22. I might just head down there myself. About 1 hour away.
  23. B26> I've been around here making a few comments... Than ks for asking. I reported on taking the plane to Kerrville by myself, check out my new hanger art, 13 hours of fun flying. Upon return with 35 hours since the "overhaul" we switched to Phillips 20W-50 XC and Camguard. Have not flown since then but oil analysis looked fine and I believe she's better than new. Should be headed to Maine a couple of times this summer so hope my excitement is over for a while. https://flightaware.com/live/flight/N943RW/history/20140414/1354Z/KERV/KJVW Might have to stop by and have lunch in Oxford, pick up some mushrooms?
  24. The city exec at BoA said he would take care of it. Said it usually takes 24-48 hours. We'll see.
