  1. Our A&P/IA @ KMRN in Western NC works on several Mooneys including mine. It would not be the equivalent of a MCS pb. There are now longer any MSC in NC.
  2. Hey Cody, I had my Scimitar prop balanced by H&H in Burlington NC at the suggestion of PowerFlow Systems. (It doubled their warranty.) Now I've had a prop strike and had the prop repaired. I suppose it ought to be dynamically balanced again? The engine has been disassembled and inspected, new cam and lifters, etc.
  3. The Precise Flight manual brakes STC on my E from 1997 indicate 9.0 pounds @ 70" arm.
  4. My prop strike experience is not exactly applicable, there was no 3rd party or someone else's insurance involved. But FWIW, the insurance company was the least of my worries. QBE has been great. They advanced money for the engine and prop work as needed. And the shop that did the disassemble/reassemble has delivered the plane to me (last night). They are satisfied that the insurance company will pay them directly in a timely manner for their work which has been going on for almost 4 months. I am guessing that it is pretty standard practice for a shop to get advances from the insurance company for major parts and services they have to pay for but to wait until the job is done for their part of the costs. I would strongly amen your conclusion that understating hull value is a very risky gamble. Saving a few hundred dollars a year on premiums might well cost you your airplane if a claim plus the recoverable salvage exceeds the stated hull value.
  5. My long lost mistress is resting in her own hanger @ KMRN tonight. Thank you, Lord.
  6. Kevin, like Marauder I love my Aspen and the whole panel. I'm on my smartphone now but I'll answer in more detail later. Sent from my XT1060 using Tapatalk
  7. Byron, 400 hours is quite a lot of exposure. have you asked if I was a factor? Sent from my XT1060 using Tapatalk
  8. I already had the STEC, the Stormscope and the #2 NavCom. The rest including a new panel and the installation of the engine monitoring transducers, etc was $48,000 after deducting $6000 for stuff I sold to Mooniacs and on Ebay. Would you believe there are some on this forum who do not believe I could get my money back @ resale?! For some reason they have not been able to cite a comparable sale.
  9. Bob, yes GTN750. Here's the rest of what I have in my '66E. (a GDL 88 is remote.) Aspen PFD 1000, STEC50, Stormscope 900, The GPS 696 is sync'd to 750 and has Sirius/XM) It will do everything for me except flare and pour coffee.
  10. Tomorrow. But nothing about this whole program has occurred on schedule. My backup is to get a buddy to take me to PA/DE tomorrow where Chris has offered to shuttle me to MA.
  11. Thanks for all the comments. You guys/gals are the best. I am sticking with QBE @ $1457 ($100,000 hull). (Instrument rating, 3000 PIC, over 2700 retract, 2500 in M20s.) My (local) agent is throwing in a cap with his name on it. He added: "If it's any consolation Bob, my QBE rate on my C182 went from $908 in 2012 to $1081 in 2013. That's about exactly the same percentage increase that you had. Misery loves company :)"
  12. I replaced a nice JPI 450 with a really great JPI EDM 930. I sold the 450 to a fellow MSer for $300. and I think the buyer is happy with it. As mentioned above I would think you could find something similar for a similar price. The 930 allowed me to get rid of a lot of very old instruments.
  13. Well, I certainly cannot complain about QBE in their handling of my prop strike claim.
  14. Don, here's the thread I remember. Not as much about age as I thought. I think there was a similar discussion on the MAPA discussion group. http://mooneyspace.com/topic/9561-insurance-renewal-time/?hl=hull#entry107721
  15. I just was inserting an emoticon in another thread and noticed that when I clicked on the icon that the string of choices appear below the typing space and if you're near the bottom of the computer screen you have to scroll down to see them. Is it possible that's all it is for you?
  16. Yes Don, I did mention that above. I think we had a thread on exactly this issue a few months back. (But at your age you might not remember.)
  17. The pitfalls of doing business by brief emails. Turns out the STARR quote is for $60k hull (their max for a '66E) my agent made a typo "STARR will only go $100,000". She knew we needed $100,000 and that number got mixed up in her note. So.I guess QBE it is @ 18% up. . Might be just as well given the open status of the prop strike claim. (They may want to judge some of the work as unrelated to the insured event.)
  18. The pilot does have far more than those qualification. Probably doesn't matter, risk is risk, but the flight is from 6B6 (MA) to KMRN (NC). My concern would be what the new policy required.
  19. Nothing is ever simple. This is my 3rd year with this plane. I switched agents last year and underwriters. This is the 1st renewal with QBE. OTOH, I'll be 71 in a few weeks and I understand the number of underwriters taking on new business will be getting more restricted.
  20. My anniversary date is Monday and my agent is working from home today -- snow. I need to confirm fine print but for my $100,000 hull and standard liability QBE wants to go from $1230 to $1459. STARR is quoting $1161. This is complicated since my plane is to be ferried here next week, on the new policy, so I need to be sure the pilot is acceptable. My current policy requires pilots other than me have inst rating, 750 hrs, 150 retract and 25 in type. I think these clauses vary a good bit.
  21. Hum, my old company, QBE, quoted 18% increase which is why I had my agency seek comparison... I suppose my prop strike might be involved though I was told it should not be a factor...
  22. Does anyone use Starr Aviation Insurance? They've quoted my agent 20% lower than my current carrier's renewal rate. I'm always suspicious of a low price.
  23. Are the rest of the icons available? Fonts, etc.? If I click the very first icon it reverts to plain text mode.
