Hmmm, from other threads and some quote I have received
Factory Reman engine - $36,000 New $60,000
Prop overhaul - $3 - $4000
Full interior from AeroTech - $20,000 Glass extra if needed
Paint - $15,000 and up
Panel - I got quoted $52,000 for 10.6" G3X Touch, with new audio panel (PS Engineering or Garmin), GFC500 auto pilot with yaw damper. I already have a G5, GTN650 and GTX345. Without those add another $18 - $20,00 installed.
Other things -
Monroy LR tanks - $10,000 or so
Seal tanks - $9000
All LED light - $2500
And many more things you can spend money on.
I can confirm, from experience, these numbers are spot on.

It's a lot of fun to fly, no doubt, and on a flight of an hour is so, hand flying is the way to go. I've got a 900 mile trip at the end of September though, no way I want to fly that by hand. It'll be a tiring trip even with the AP and then I have to make the return just 2 days later. In those situations, the AP is the only way to go.
Let's not forget when Lindbergh crossed the Atlantic, Coca Cola still had Cocaine in it...

I hand flew from Grants Pass to LA a few months ago, albeit with my new Skyview HDX system, and it wasn’t that bad. I lost most functionality with my S TEC 30 when I upgraded.

Does anyone know what exactly is contained in the SkyView US Aviation/Obstacles Database? The website doesn't really say what's in it.

I just wanted to share with everyone a great product I've been using to protect my plane's paint while flying. I've actually used Protect All for years on our helicopters where I work and decided to buy some for my plane. I applied it to the leading edges and front cowling. It leaves a smooth, waxy finish which leaves less bugs after flying in the warmer months, when the sky is full of insects. Guys who fly in the south may appreciate this product even more. I have no financial interest with the product but I'm happy enough with the results that I figured I'd share with all of you my experience.

You can definitely buy surplus military jets, but I haven’t yet seen a surplus aircraft carrier for sale
The Chinese bought one of two old soviet carriers that was under construction when the USSR was dissolved, albeit it's the ramp kind and not catapult equipped.

Be careful with this, I have a friend that has fried two batteries by spending too much time on his auxiliary 30A power supply connected to the plane. It's basically an unregulated charger over charging the batteries.
Aerodon
I had an avionics shop connect one of these chargers to my battery while doing a firmware update to my Avidyne IFDs and remember seeing the volt meter climb to something like 15 or 16 volts before I finally disconnected it, accidentally arced the clip on the battery box and blew the top off the battery. I was not a happy camper that the guy left the charger hooked up for so long, unmonitored and allowed the voltage to get that high where I finally intervened.

I found that the Battery Minder supplies almost enough current. The battery will slowly discharge, but not significantly over 2 - 3 hours, and the Battery Minder will bring it back up to full charge when you are done.
I actually have a battery minder but I figured it wouldn’t supply enough juice and having the avionics on while connected might strain or damage the battery minder. I have no knowledge or evidence of that, it was merely a concern of mine.

I use a harbor freight 6A charger, by turning off unnecessary loads you should easily be under 6A.
I don’t leave it connected overnight. How long have you been using that? Any issues with it?

Some chargers don't support a continuous load well, or only handle a limited load. I made my own 25A GPU (I'm an EE), but if I were to do it again I'd just get one of these (all the work is done and it has a lot of the right features). There's a 24V version as well:
https://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/elpages/portPowerCharger.phpI like it but I don't have the plug receptacle for that. I was thinking of something that clipped on the battery.

What equipment are you guys with glass panels using to ground power the avionics to fiddle faddle with your equipment while the engine isn’t running? Would something like a battery charge from Harbor Freight work?

Does anyone else have suggestions on starters they recommend or don’t recommend?

What brand is that one?
I believe that’s the Hartzell X-Drive, however the MZ6222 is applicable to my engine and not the MZ4222.

Hello all, I’ve been having some issues with my new starter on my newly overhauled and recently serviced Sky-Tec 149 NL. The starter was recently sent back to Hartzell because the bendix failed to engage after several starts while at the avionics shop. It was sent in and returned while I used a loaner 149 NL that seemed to work well. Once the new 149 NL was returned and installed I’ve been having an issue where when I hit the starter button I only hear a click and no turning of the prop. I’ll get out and turn the prop back only to feel the bendix gear engaged. Then, usually, upon another start attempt the prop will usually crank over. I had a similar issue with my old 149 NL prior to the engine overhaul but it was more infrequent and would only involve the click sound and not the bendix engagement. I contacted Hartzell and they told me my starter might need a shim in accordance with Lycoming service letter 1447B from 1993. My mechanic doesn’t think this will fix the problem.
Anyways, I’m considering giving another brand or type of starter a try. I’m considering switching to a B&C or Hartzell X-Drive and giving one of those a try. Any thoughts on if this could fix the problem or which of these alternate starters are better?
Thanks,
Steve

Has anyone flown their plane through Star Wars Canyon and gotten it on film? I've always thought it was in restricted area however when I looked at the sectional, best I can tell, is it's in the Panamint MOA and not in any restricted area. If this is accurate I'm surprised more people don't take the opportunity for some amazing photos despite the inherent danger.

They are in the installation manualbut hard to find IIRRC in the HDX setup area. It calls for
A 360 to the left first then a 360 to the right and for best results do it again with altitude changes
Go into setup pages INFlight push buttons 7 and 8 together and go to the correct line item to select There is a scale number on the page that starts low and will climb to near 100 during the right turn segment. You want as close to100 as possible
There is also a horizon adjustment line for you to reset the command bars closer to the visual horizon if you are showing that off a few degrees in level flight as I was
Steep learning curve but what a nice way to go. Ive only got 2 hrs behind it and Ihad to leave on a trip so I wont be able to use it for 2 weeks
Thank you for this.

A lot of patience is required for the FCC site. Unless they've changed it.
So don't start the process when you only have a few minutes. It has been a while, but I remember the biggest issue was navigation. You click on something you thought would take you to exactly what you needed to apply and you'd end up on some FAQ page that sort of was related, but of absolutely no help.
This is the precise issue I've been having. That website is such a PIA!

If I didn't have it I'm positive they would ask for it.

Just completed the inflight compass calibration and inflight horizon adjustment. Compass got to 101 status!!
Hangar neighbor takes his Cherokee in in a couple weeks for the same panel. He was impressed with the screen clarity today.
Where are the procedures written for the inflight compass check? I'm loving my Dynon Skyview, but I need to do this still.

I have a relatively new ignition switch and keys for sale if you want to go that route. It came out of my plane during my panel rebuild.

Make an account (FRM) here as an individual
Log in here.
You will need 'Restricted Radiotelephone Operator Permit' for you, lifetime. Plane needs a 'Radio Station Authorization', good for 10 years.
I believe you can download both as PDFs immediately and print them out. They even say 'Official Copy' stamped across them.
System is down for maintenance or I'd help you further.
Thank you, sir.

Can anyone help out with how to apply for the FCC operator and radio station license for my aircraft for international flight? The FCC website seems to be the most unuser-friendly website I've seen next to Jeppesen. I can't figure out how to navigate it to fill out the application and any help, shortcuts or hints would be appreciated.
