  1. Quote: 74657 PM me your email address and I will forward you the letter I sent. You can block it at the FAA or can block it from 3rd party ASDI services such as flightaware. As far as I know there is not expiration. If you want family or other authorized people to track your a/c you need to apply for the 3rd party block and then contact the ASDI provider of your choice and write to them granting access for the list of usernames you provide. Blocking the tail number is easy. The FAA granted my block in less than 24 hours and was effective the first day of the next month.
  2. I am composing a letter for our a/c. Can you guys verify what you wrote for the ASDI block? I see on FAA site that they say to request prior to releasing the info, but wouldn't it already be released?....I don't get this. Is this if you just bought it? or are the 3rd parties updated daily/weekly/monthy?? Also, how can my wife track the flight if they grant the block? Thanks guys
  3. LOL...you may be right Scott! I am heading back to try again right now! JK Parker...PM the info please. I may have some interest for sure! Thanks so much!
  4. Hey guys...still active on my hunt for a nice older M20e or C model. Here is a link to my short final into Kelleys Island Ohio this past week for lunch with wife and baby(she was asleep for this and wife had eyes shut while holding the video cam..ha). We were in a 172.
  5. Well...the A&P that did the pre-buy left me a message. He "cleaned" up and bead blasted all the exterior corroded parts and spot painted them...a "mask" IMO. I saw too much bad corrosion and some on seams inside the fuselage. Someone will indeed get this NY based 1969 E model (it is priced cheap) and will probably get a surprise if they do not have a good pre-buy done and have not dont their diligence.
  6. Quote: jetdriven A lot of that is rust from steel screws. Also, the flap up stop is a steel part and rusty. Same with the nose gear. You get 10% thickness on that stuff, but its a lot of work, and unless the price is cheap, not worth the time. If the spar has any corrosion, the repair costs will total it.
  7. At this point I am moving on. I don't think it is possible that all of this corrosion would be only on the surface. Too much of it and too many years at a tiedown. I am not really interested in fully restoring an old airplane. My grandfather once told me to let other people restore things (cars, airplanes, etc..)and then purchase them from those owners. They will almost never recoup the $$ put in and you will get a great deal. He had a successful Aircraft brokerage for many years. I think I will take that advice. My Cherokee was a great airplane and I am looking for the same on this next venture....of course there are always risks, but we have to try to minimize those and I would like to think of myself as "cautiously optimistic" I just don't think an A&P can "clean up" this big of a mess. I think it will be a "cover up" and I feel sorry for the one that will end up with this one. Someone will...it's cheap. If I was to consider someone tearing into this one, it would have to be someone like my paint guy Mark in TN or a MSC. And either of them would probably advise against it, or do it at the cost of $$$$$$$.
  8. so you have done some PIB trips I am sure! Those, as well as Kelly Is are fun...
  9. here are 2 more that I think are interesting...the fuel stain is of interest I guess. When I called my paint guy and had sent him this pic along with others, this is the 1st one he wanted to talk about. He swears up and down that this stain is directly related to the use of AUTO gas. Obv we know that there is not an STC for the 360/200hp Lycoming to use autogas. That was of major concern to him, despite what I saw as far as how good the interior of the eng looked. The A&P said there was no way that the old owner used autogas, but he also said in a statement minutes before this came up that the old owner was cheap. Hmmmmm.....anyone have any thoughts on this?
  10. Here are a few...I heard from the A&P. He has been instructed by the estate to "clean" up the corroded areas and prime them so it is more likely it will sell. I am lost as to how they can possibly clean up this much?! They wanted to know if I had interest once that's complete...I am not sure this much could ever be cleaned up to good standards. Let's see what you guys think. The 1 with the Zinc coating is the inside of the aft fuselage at one of the seams
  11. also...the interior of engine including the cam were spotless. I don't think that was an issue at all. The problem for me was confined to the corrosion of airframe.
  12. it was everywhere...it'd be easier to tell you where it wasn't. Just a total disappointment. Lots of surface bubbles...discoloration of aluminum inside inspection panels under wings. Gear wells flaking paint everywhere and definite weak metal along with surface rust on hinges. The list could go on and on....
  13. Well...first, I do value and listen to all the knowledge up here. Heck...why come to the forum if you aren't going to listen to the advice. Thanks to all of you...I owe you all, and here is why... I flew in today to finish the pre-buy and inspect ALL the areas you guys have taked about, as well as what I found on the web...and...many of you were correct. CORROSION...LOTS....doesn't take a MSC to see what I saw. Nobody was more sad than me today. The A&P is a really great guy and I can tell that the maintenance aspect was great(ad's, logs, etc)...all of it. HOWEVER...his idea of "little to no corrosion" leaves me scratching my head. It was terrible. I text pics to my paint guy who knows Mooneys well and he too was baffled. I should have known about it. Would have saved me the time and $$. There was surface bubbling all over and the deeper I got, the more I found. Headed home....back to square one. Lesson learned. Thanks again guys....
