  1. Welcome to the Dan Bass Saved My Ass Club!
  2. I doubt you’re gonna want to go through that again, and especially every 6 months! What are you going to do next time?
  3. Prop Pastie. It’s right on point but the guy stopped making them because he’s paranoid the government is spying on him and that someone is going to sue him.
  4. Tip of the day: @carusoam says set your propeller vertical when you’re done using it. Makes it look bigger.
  5. I let @carusoam take me to lunch just so I could get a lot of likes here on Mooneyspace. Ladies and gentlemen, the ambassador of Mooneyspace Mr Anthony Caruso: He’s ignoring me cause he’s probably busy checking Mooneyspace! PS, I heard Anthony managed to get re-current in his airplane for the first time in years!
  6. I’ve been parked outside over 12 years now. I’d argue the cabin cover is your most helpful cover. Who cares about the paint? It protects much more than that. It keeps water from leaking in the door seal, keeps wind and sun off the interior and avionics. Keeps airport debris from flying into windows. Keeps out peering eyes. And as for paint, I can tell you that despite frequent waxing, the only paint that wasn’t faded after a decade outside was the parts normally under the cover. So it does more to protect than to harm paint.
  7. Besides hanging out the window upside down holding a cup? Flip the Gatz Jar tip from the plastic to the metal stick side facing up. Press it up into the gascalator from outside and take a sample. If you really care about sampling the other fuel line too, go inside and flip the fuel selector and repeat.
  8. "Regularly" means daily or about every 3 days at most. Flight school, rental, charter type stuff. Most weekend warriors don't fit the bill for "regularly".
  9. This dilemma comes from putting the cart before the horse. In most cases it’s better to finish the training before buying a plane. But by having the plane first it puts a strong bias toward using what you already paid for. It is hard to choose to not use it and fly the trainer instead.
  10. It was raining airplanes out of the sky that month Sully landed on the Hudson. Just because it’s the topic of the month that gets attention doesn’t make these problems go away when the news finds something else to focus on.
  11. I'm pretty happy with Macs. It's well designed/fit but the durability on it isn't terrific. Price is good.
  12. With all this talk about monkey bar and natural birth techniques for getting in and out of a Mooney, which seat do you find easier to get in/out of? The pilot seat or the passenger seat?
  13. The 201kts was a joke. It’s just ground speed with a tailwind. 170 isn’t a normal cruise speed, just top speed for demonstration. I was doing a break in flight so I stayed at max power for a while. Everything forward. 3200ft, 27.5” MP, 2700RPM, 17.1GPH, 5C OAT, 165 KIAS, 163 KCAS, 169 KTAS. A few more things to check that I got tweaked are mag timing and RPM adjustment. You’d be surprised how much speed you can lose by having timing off a couple degrees and missing 30RPM.
  14. TBM 900 claims top speed of 380mph on 850HP
  15. Composite gear doors, new[er] cowl, remove unused antennas/equipment, door pin mod, gap seals, body work and A pillar smoothing, windshield fairing replacement, repaint, wash, and wax.
  16. He doesn’t want to get my rigging perfect because he’s afraid my 201 might be 201er than his.
  17. No, but @jetdriven might admit my bird’s in better shape
  18. With all the mods/improvements I have done, I can make about 170KTAS (based on ASI which I have found to be fairly accurate) at full power. This isn’t quite full power but nor is it full weight either.
  19. But that’s only 175 knots! I can get pretty close to that any day!
  20. Had to do a double take when I saw this trailer driving down the street in Roanoke. Sure enough, that’s a Mooney! At first I thought it was an Executive but on closer look I’m thinking Chapparal.
