  1. Curious if the tail was worked on. There have been counterfeit bolts that have ended up in aviation supply chain before.
  2. If the tanks were left empty, expect them to need a reseal. Also, ensure fuel vents are clear: fuel tank vents clogged by insect activity have killed more than one capable pilot.
  3. Seems pretty standard. In overspeed situations the tail flutters, the elevator sheds its counterweights and all bets are off. There was a rocket crash some years ago in California that exhibited the same behavior. If I ever experience flutter, my intention is to chop power, prop full forward and throw out the brakes as quickly as possible.
  4. I’d like to fly to Cancun. What does it require? I don’t see myself needing to go anywhere near Cuba, so is an overflight permit necessary? What about “handlers”? Are those required? I know a number of mooneyspace users have flown to Mexico, but I’ve never done it myself.
  5. If it mounts to the flywheel and is the Mooney part, I recommend getting one from the prop manufacturer. The harmonics between the flywheel and prop crack them and the problem will return at an inopportune time.
  6. High EGTs — consistent or intermittent — are often a sign of a failing magneto. Plan on a potential AOG situation at your next stop.
  7. I don’t have Facebook. Any chance you can repost here?
  8. How long does it take for Windows to arrive from glap?
  9. I don’t think I’ve ever used the marker beacon or flown a localizer-only approach.
  10. Before replacing your battery, consider investing in a BatteryMinder specific to your Conchordes. @aviatoreb (if I remember correctly) said he got 12 years out of his Rocket batteries with his batteryminder. For comparison, I'd only get a couple years out of mine without the batteryminder (I think the parallel batteries discharge each other when the health of one cell starts to go). The last two that came out and wouldn't hold a charge and had distorted in shape (concave on the sides) returned to their original shape on the BatteryMinder. I gave one of them to a pilot who was in a bind on the field and needed a battery and it's still going strong. With the rocket, and the placement of the batteries in the far empennage, requiring risking damage and lots of work to get to them, I didn't want to risk reinstalling the batteries that weren't holding a charge in spite of the batteryminder appearing to have restored them. If it was the normal battery box, it wouldn't have bothered me to try and get more life out of them.
  11. You want this tool to install them. It’s expensive. It’s also worth it. https://www.opentip.com/EDMO-SRT-2-Snap-Ring-Insertion-Tool-p-3335156.html?ats=gs&gclid=CjwKCAjwqIiFBhAHEiwANg9szs40RhaUMxXKO78RNJMZ7TCbdidMclW_DBB7y-HYTmbyL2-UTDXlIRoCz8MQAvD_BwE
  12. For what it’s worth, the Rockets can fly up to FL280 and do not have pressurized mags.
  13. Nope. I bought one and tried it. With the plane inside the hangar and the zero breeze mk2 venting outside the plane, it could maybe cool the pilot’s seat just a touch. With the plane outside, no difference.
  14. It's a seller's market right now. I would price it as having a run-out engine new cylinders or not. It's usually the camshaft that starts making metal prompting the overhaul if it's near TBO, not loss of compression.
  15. I’m going to have my mechanic do the windows on my 1981 Rocket. I was curious if anyone knows any tricks or things to be aware of before he goes in to tackle this. He wanted me to ask about getting a replacement for the lower windshield trim piece because he thinks it’ll be tough to keep it straight and if the part isn’t terribly expensive, would be easier to just plan on replacing it. This existing glass is riveted in and the glass in my m20f is affixed with screws. For those of you who have done new glass, I would appreciate any insight you may have.
  16. This thing kicks ass. I’ve hated Garmin and looked for alternatives and just used my phone / iPad, but my rocket came with a 696 and I fell in love with it. At snf, I bought the 760 and the GDL-50, drew a panel hole cover, 3D printed it and stuck the mount to the cover and tested it tonight. I love this thing. It overlays your approach plates on the map, et cetera, calls out traffic / obstacles, et cetera, to my headset. I know other products do this, but I don’t expect this one to overheat in the sun, or be too bright at night or not readable in the sun, et cetera.
  17. For what it’s worth, I wrote a web page that converts JPI engine monitor dumps into logbooks.
  18. Anyone know if the thicker stuff is more difficult to install? I don’t know if it’ll matter much for bird strikes. There is a piper here on the field that had a turkey vulture go through the windshield and out the side window.
  19. There was a vendor at sun n fun that I bought some stick on sunshades from.
  20. Is that worth doing? And can you post more pics of your plane? Also, is that gray or SC gray up front? The front windows look darker than the windows in my F.
  21. When the bulkhead eventually cracks, buy the polished spinner from LASAR. I’m as cheap as they come, but the $2000 for the Hartzell part that I had to eventually buy would have been better spent the first time I had a bulkhead crack rather than the two used ones that I went through with unknown time on them.
