Cam/lifters and spar corrosion, everything else is relatively inexpensive to fix.

Where exactly? When I preflighted the elevator control area was clear. They can't get in anywhere else right?. Is that what you mean?
I would look all over. They can get anywhere (gear well as example or in the cowling). If they are sitting on the plane pooping then they are probably building nests. Not saying you didn’t pre-flight just that the poop means they were working on nests given the time of the year. They are clever beasts.

If you have bird poop I would look for nests as well especially in the tail.

More than likely renting or leasing.

The advice of personally inspecting is misguided. If you were somebody who could do that you wouldn’t be asking the question. That isn’t meant to be snarky either but when I am sick I go to a doctor.
Get somebody highly competent to look at it like Maxwell or the like. Savy could be another option. They are all a great deal till it turns out they aren’t and the $20K you saved turns into $50K of expense.
Nothing wrong with any airplane damage if fixed right, good luck. -
No matter the brand the wheels always get stuck on some small piece of FOD.

If your oil pressure is normal but the temp is at levels you indicate would check the temp probe. Oil temp of 240 is going to degrade pressure.

In USAF UPT everyone went out for Mexican food, heavy on the beans, the night before. JUST to add to the experience.
Well, I've been to one world fair, a picnic, and a rodeo, and that's the stupidest thing I ever heard come over a set of earphones.

I’ve never heard of anyone cruising at FL180 or even close to it.I was at FL250 and ATC told Delta to look for a Mooney passing 2K above them. They were confused a bit.

Once they get in it is hard to keep them out. When I was outside had one get in one year. I tried all sorts of things but they are clever little beasts and they were always getting in somehow.

I just push the turbo in more, leaning is for posers.

The part numbers specified in the parts manual are all available on line for little money. You might as well use the right parts.
The right parts often don’t fit anymore because they were fitted with larger fittings when the original snapped out.

Mit certainly fits the mission (we could move all the way through a Commercial if that is what we decide to do). L
What is the mission?

I was going to say something but you used the verbiage “doesn’t like flying” inverted.

And given 50+ years the size is the size find what fits.

I just hit everything with an air wrench. You don’t want something coming loose at FL250.
