  1. Bought an 87.   New engine with inner gear doors.   My third J.      At 8000 feet it trues at 172 knots at 11-12 gal/hr.   Flew it home from Seattle to Detroit in 11 hours.  Best J built.   160 gross increase as we text.   Only J with 252 gear and 140 kt gear speed.   Hope I live long enough to wear it out.   Pics of panel showing 172 at level flight available.   Little tailwind on my way home pushes 200 kts.  I love this pristine airplane....put in a stupid parachute and they should"fly" off the shelf.

Beauty !  That is a wicked fast j!!!

  2. Erik,  I'll send you a separate email with the costs.  I had a lot of stuff removed, a new panel cut, silkscreened, etc.  It all adds up.  I think Dynon is a little cheaper to install because of the pre-wiring for their components but I also had a new audiopanel installed along with a Garmin GPS 175 and I kept my Apollo SL30 and SL40 radios so there's still a lot of conventional wiring that needed to be done.

I'm out of town right now, give me a few days to respond with more data.

  3. On the side I'm an A&P w/ an IA.  I bought my Rocket knowing that I would slowly work out the lack of love and care it missed out on over it's life (pencil whipped log books claiming inspections that clearly weren't taking place).  I've overhauled the mags, put new ignition harnesses on it, properly grounded the mags,  hooked up the shower of sparks system for easy staring, overhauled the fuel pump and manifold system, rebuilt the emergency gear system, etc...  There's more that I'll be tackling over the next year or two.  One of those things is to deal with the old McCauley prop.  I noticed your post on what I believe is a MTV-14 prop installed on your Rocket.

A couple of questions:  What STC did you use to install it under?  Did they give you a credit for turning in your McCauley prop when you purchased?  What price range should I expect to pay if I upgrade?

Thanks for your time and help.

    Steve

      hi Steve,

      yay for you!

Yes I love my MTV-4 blade.  You definitely want the nickel covering up charge.

Im sorry I forget what I paid but I want to say something like 18k?

No credit for McCauley - I sold that separately.

I worked directly with MT USA and they did all the paper work to get the field approval for which I paid $1500 for that service.  I am sure they could do it again.

      Got a picture?

      Erik

Hi Yves,  Have you heard any more of what happened?

I have looked at those pictures many times.  It does look to me like the prop might have stopped.  But I am more inclined now by the look of the nose and the way the nose is bent up, that it went in at a high angle - I am feeling like maybe he got slow, and simply stalled on short final,  but at rather low altitude thankfully for his son.

Thank you for trying to see his son.  I am hoping he is ok. What an emotional blow for him to recover from.

      Erik

Thank goodness for the Son.  Oh my God how horrible this is.

What time did it happen.  What the heck was he doing flying from Philly to Montreal yesterday?!  I know quite well what the weather patterns were yesterday with very nasty winter weather sweeping from the South North to us.  I flew yesterday to CT to drop off my inlaws in the morning, so as to enjoy a severe clear flight and to beat the bad weather bearing down on us to arrive by late afternoon.  But coming from the South there was nothing but bad ice.

      Do you know any details?

      :-(!!!!!!!!

      Oh my GOD!  What happened.

Tell me it was not an IFR related incident.

      Was his son with him?
