  1. James, I understand the reason of grounding the pin 3 but I was also told that grounding it disables configuration of Airspeed. It's all good if that's the issue (it be easy fix) but I don't remember we done that during the install. Thank you.
  2. yeah, disturbs me as well since I have Surefly installed on left mag side. It is working great, though and would not like to go back as I removed SoS and associated wiring and sold Left magneto.
  3. What spark plugs do you have? Years ago, I had similar issue in 2 flights before annual spark plug would go off line. It turned out 6 out of 8 Champion spark plugs had much higher resistance than specified. We replaced all with Tempest plugs and problem went away. My new engine came with Champions, though...
  4. To all, G5 was bought less then 18 months ago and had a latest software so we didn't need to do software loading procedure as described per 6.3.5 of Install manual. Software version it came with is 6.82. I got a call form Garmin tech in less then 30' I emailed them and tech suggested to update the software on a new SD card (FAT-32 formatted, whatever that means). He said current version is 8.00. Another thing he mentioned is that G5 has data logging and could be downloaded to the card for them to diagnose it. We'll look at that for sure. The other question was why no reference speeds were configured to G5. Do you guys have that on your unit? Anyone is missing that? We just didn't have that option available (airspeed configuration) when calibrated the G5. According to Garmin tech, this is the feature used on G5 2nd installation (HSI) when the Pin 3 is grounded on the main connector (9 pin). So, it might be so simple that we had Pin 3 grounded and need to remove that. I hope so it's that simple. Looking at the install manual, I see no reason why we would do that so I'm afraid it might be something else. Annual is coming in a month so my IA and I will look into this for sure. Thank you.
  5. Adam, Simply put, two GPS tracks are different. And I believe the G5 is off become if I am on airway close to waypoint, my track and bearing to waypoint (VOR) is spot on on panel mount GPS to what I see on moving map. G5 is 4 deg off. Keep in mind, G5 has no GMU11 magnetometer so it's shows magnetic track (no magnetic drift)...
  6. I have Garmin G5 (certified) installed in lieu of Attitude indicator and it's getting WAAS GPS signal from DTX 355 transponder (As well as it's dedicated dash antenna). Unit was calibrated for Attitude (pitch and rill) during the install and is quite accurate but it's GPS track displayed is 3-4 degrees off the old panel GPS navigator. Now, being new unit and such I would expect G5 to be accurate but recently, I paid more attention while flying and it seems G5 is off. Simply put on last few cross country IFR flights I would fly radial off VOR and the old GPS would track it showing correct tracking while G5 was off. Same with following localizer during the approach, 3-4 deg difference. Reading the install and Maintenance manual, I see no way of adjusting this. What do you guys think? Is there a way to correct for that and why the difference? Curiously, my EFB (FlyQ) seems to agree with G5!? I really need to look it it again but, as I said panel GPS seems to track Airways with correct Tracking and location on moving map. Another G5 calibration question: It seems manual is calling for Air speed configured (Vne, Vno, Vy etc). but my G5 just does not have that option under configuration page. I downloaded the correct revision of install manual when bought the unit. Is that something that is not on all units? Does anyone have configured ref speeds for your plane on G5? Thank you.
  7. You and Vic are correct. To complete the install you will need CGR30P and additional Fuel level gage. There are couple of options and I went with Aerospace logic F202.
  8. I haven't been there in years but there were no issues with obstructions. It's definitely a perspective of long lens on camera used to take a photo. Now, if you head in other direction from Paine field, you'll get to Langley, W10. Taking off north, you'll have some tall trees to clear very close to the end of the runway that got taller over the years in PNW weather.
  9. Perhaps this will help. It seems you have a short cable as it's a very simple system.
  10. ^^^^^^^ This! When I bought my plane it had a repaint with bad prep decade ago so I budgeted for a paint job. That is the only way to correct the issues and to look nice. Not the answer you want to hear with today's prices of quality paint jobs...
  11. I might have a picture showing box install. it was attached to the flat sheet metal bracket that is itself attached to the steel tube frame in copilot wheel whel in my 67F tubing had a couple of threaded bosses for #10 screws that I used to attach the bracket. Your model might not have them. box is partially covered by side carpeting on copilot side
  12. I replaced all original engine instruments with CGR30p except for the fuel gages. Those were done by Aerospace logic FP202 i love the cleanest of installation and reliability is great. I highly recommend it. I did the install myself and estimate 30+ h with all new copilot panel
  13. While I agree the new EI connectors are better then the old ones (easier to work with) with little care the original ones can be as reliable. You need to make sure the wire gage is appropriate and both wires are crimped bu the set screw. I don’t think you need Locktite it but I used shrink wraps on all CGR30 connectors regardless of what EI recommended ymmv
  14. While I have set up 1800wxbrief site to file ICAO flight plan for couple years now, i filed a number of pop up flight planes with simple M20p/g, x hours of fuel and number souls on board with no complaints from ATC. They do all the work I didn’t call flight service to file for over 15 years so I can’t help you there. this comes from pilot who learned ICAO plans first. cheers
  15. Replacing the side windows is allowed under owner maintenance. that is one of the first jobs I did after buying my plane years ago. It is not difficult job, parts are reasonable inexpensive (for airplanes, at least) and i was quite happy with results. I’ve done it on ramp as I didn’t have an access to the hangar at the tim good luck
  16. How was it? few years ago volunteers restored the B727 serial 001 (N7001U) and flew it short distance from PAE to museum at BFI It was painted outdoors with rollers. I would not paint my Mooney that way. speaking of Vampire: I found out there is one next row at PAE.
  17. 1967 M20F with some J mods (windshield, gaps, windows etc…): 2740 MTOW, just short of 1690 empty weight and 1050+ useful load. Payload is 666lb with 64 gal fuel.
  18. ^^^^^^^ I agree with this.
  19. I would think so. You could get the answer from a prospective buyer that was investigating the same plane or maintainer familiar with that plane. Sometimes eve the owner can give useful feedback.
  20. yes! but it's the updated part most of us fail.
  21. No E's in 77. only 7 M20F for $38,500 according to data: http://www.mooneyevents.com/chrono.htm
  22. According to Mooney events website, 1977 M20C was $35k and M20J was 41,200-45,500.
  23. Google "rubber edge trim"; there should be a number of options you can choose from. I replaced mine years ago after the paint job was complete and it's still holding well.
  24. Without looking into details it looks like POTUS is visiting LA and will be in the couple of different locations over the time. You have inner 10NM ring (no flying at all) and outer 30NM ring where you can IFR or fly with squawk code.
  25. Well, our flight was to KVGT (North las Vegas) so we were extra motivated not to stop.
