  1. Scot, Removing glareshield on my F (with 201 windshield mod) didn't do much for the access. I think structure under is different and does not allow good access from above. Keep in mind instrument panels are completely different. Vintage planes have no removable CB panel...
  2. I should be flying this afternoon to test it and lubricate the engine. Perhaps late lunch at Jeffco. I completed the install last week but lately, WX was really crappy around here... Beer is in the fridge for after the flight. you are welcome to join but might need faster bird to come on time.
  3. Well, I just gat the call from Heather at LASAR: They received 15 ducts and only 7 will be sold to the people on the list. I got one and there are about 30 people on the list. I had waited for over 2 years for it but main reason was also had my old work email or phone number so couldn't reach me. It seems all the MSCs are having a long list and could sell a number of parts. At $605, profit margin must be high so I don't understand why the factory doesn't order more as they sell like hot cakes.
  4. Yes, it is very difficult just to see the shunt when under the panel as is is all the way up on the firewall. From what I recall, I accessed it through the copilot panel with the instruments removed...
  5. Lance, this might be true for 252 but is it for M20F? I don't think that's the case for my plane but then there's always a gap even cowl flaps are closed.
  6. Please describe in more details. Used parts are available as owners are removing their PC for new autopilot... It's a very good and simple system that is working well when sorted out. Also inexpensive to maintain but some parts are hard to get...
  7. No they are correct for the Hybrid, -1 weight which you had. Now, -7 requires 1.09-1.3 lb. as per 68 SM and SB. Question really is how would solid -7 weight end up on 1967 F? Frank was suggesting that was replaced during the life of the airplane(s). some people on MS are saying factory would just grab and install a whatever they had (-7 would go on C, D and E) but I find that hard to believe. Also, what would they balance the -7 weight on 67 F? That's not a way to build a plane, IMO. But what would I know....
  8. What airplane do you have? This looks to me like "INTAKE DUCT M20 E&F - 600115-005". there's a list of people waiting for delivery at most of MSC so you better put your name on it. I see LASAR list it with a new great price ($605)! ouch!
  9. oh, too many questions... it flew well with -1 weight. Unfortunately I didn't measure the elevator with the old weight; I simply forgot. I understand the confusion and perhaps you might want to contact Frank Crawford at Mooney if he has answers. He was adamant that was correct. Please keep in mind that 1967 F unbalance limit was 1.57 -1.725 but the early 68F (up to S/n 170 or ) has same smooth elevator but solid weight (-7) however unbalance is specified as 1.09-1.3lb so Mooney must have some data. This is with smooth elevators. so, how did it balance in the range? Lucky I guess but it makes sense as heavier Wight in front will give you lower unbalance value at the elevator trailing edge.
  10. I measured the -1 weight and it was 2.1lb. The -7 weight it replaced is 3.28 lb and predictably the whole elevator was in balance with it. Actual value was 1.22lb (limits were 1.09-1.3). It makes sense as more weight in front (counterweight) reduces the balance weight at the TE. Or maybe I was lucky?
  11. All true. Interesting is that Russians bought most of the rights to manufacture remake of western tubes like Genelex (Golden Lions), Mullard, EH and such. Supposing sound the same as originals but some people swore NOS western tubes are better. Dunno, but I can tell you prices of Russian tubes went up dramatically after war in Ukraine started.
  12. A friend of a friend has N247BJ on his RV...
  13. Thank you all for the response. Just to be clear: these are leftovers after the paint job so I do expect it's fully mixed with catalyst. I could be wrong... And believe it or not, it is still liquid and sloshing when I shake the cans.
  14. Your Seats came out fantastic! Most of the people go with the leather but this fabric is super nice. Was that one of their premium fabrics? I like your choice of colors too. Enjoy your plane.
  15. I would like to touchup few spots on the paint, including rivets R&R for the elevator eeight replacement. I have 15 years old touchup paint in cans received as leftovers after my paintjob and would probably need the thinner. White paint is Acry-glow and silver and black are Imron. What could I use as common thinner to touch up these areas with brush? I understand I could get the dedicated thinner however I need a very small amount to apply with touch-up fine brush. Thank you.
  16. and four-course radio range approach skills. Museum workshop at KPAE has the restored Link Trainers in the window... years ago I saw someone sitting in it so perhaps brushing on those lost instrument skills.
  17. No, not at all. I looked the instrument (and fastener) holes closely and could hardly see where the jet started the cut of the circle. Fastener holes were specified slightly oversized (class 2) and were spot on, like using the drill. There was an option of choosing better finish and also to reduce taper on thicker sheets (not a factor for .100" thk panel). I just looked at Xometry website and it seems much bigger company, not only water jet so I hope some options were not lost...
  18. Few years ago I used Big Blue Saw Inc. to water jet the panes and cost was around $150 each. They had online quote system and CAD but I didn't use it as I do that for living. They were recently bought by Xometry so you might want to check their website: https://www.xometry.com/ Unfortunately my CAD file remained at previous work and on my new computer I have no CATIA software that I use...
  19. I believe this means you can't buy those parts separately but only in -1 assy (complete step).
  20. I used their Main door seal but they have Baggage door seal as well. https://www.aircraftdoorseals.com/baggage-door-seal-mooney-m20-series-ads-5001002/
  21. Well , According to Mooney: "The Service Bulletin has been written that both elevator weights must be installed in pairs. There is no aircraft produced, nor tested by Mooney that has a combination of Lead and Hybrid weights. Now with that said, someone in the field may have installed a fully lead weight on one side somewhere down the road (log books should show the install). If this did happen, what did the they balance the elevator to, there was no criteria in the 1965 thru 1967 S&M for that? ..." Through the MS posts, I have noticed there are number of planes with one hybrid and one solid weight and factory claims it's done in field. I don't know about that but it seems IPC confirms that, stating all '67Fs and first 180 (or so) '68Fs should have hybrid weights from the factory. As for different elevator unbalance values for 1967F and 1968F (with hybrid weights), there are different Trim assist settings for S/n before 680001 and after so that can be a factor. following is snipping from M20 FAA TC: Airplanes are fun!
  22. Eric, My service manual for 1967 F calls for 1.57 - 1.725 lb unbalance and the same value is in SB M20-345A in step 2 (detail inspection of hybrid weights). Replacement (Step 3 in SB) calls for different, lower numbers: 1.09 - 1.3 lb unbalance. this is with solid weights, -7. BTW, Frank confirmed elevator is balanced with the horn installed ad referred to newer SM as well as SB M20-335.
  23. Gary, I asked Frank at Mooney this question today and will report back when I hear from that. As for different weight balance numbers: They have to be, IMO. Reason is hybrid (-1) and -7 Weights are not the same and have different CG due to steel rod in -1.
  24. Hmm.. I seem to remember Swissair went bankrupt and Crossair (regional airline) bought them or merged with them and changed the name to Swiss. I could be wrong and have no doubt consultants were involved.
  25. I asked this question myself and believe 25 gals is when fuel is touching tip of the tab however, I'm sure someone posted it's at the bottom of the hole. I checked again last night and my calibrated fuel stick (made out of HD paint stick) shows 25 gal at the bottom (tip0 of the metal tab, not the hole.
