  1. I installed larger Rosen sun visors and couldn't be happier. They are twice the size of the tiny originals and I can move them to the side window and cover my whole face from the sun. http://mooneyspace.com/gallery/image/33227-/
  2. I also have a 1981 M20J with a KFC 200. The system servos control only pitch and roll on a Mooney unless you have a yaw damper. Roll through the ailerons and pitch through both a pitch servo and a pitch/trim servo. The preflight check tests all three servos. I'd become very familiar with the KFC200 operators handbook. I have a digital copy I can send to you. You should be performing the pre-flight check before every departure, especially when flying IMC. Ping me your email and I'll send you a copy. http://mooneyspace.com/gallery/image/33228-/

    Dollar

  4. I had the same thing happen to me. It turned out to be a loose terminal to my alternator. It was connected just enough to keep charging my battery but loose enough to cause the static. It took Brian from Willmar 30 seconds to diagnose the problem. Good luck with your troubleshootin'!
  5. Mine was the same way before my last annual. They cleaned out the plastic cover and replaced the light. It is 10x brighter now and just a quick glance even in the brightest daylight confirms the gear down.
  6. Yea start posting pictures Bob. We want to see your bird! Good luck with your checkride. Loads of information here.
  7. When you do decide, and if your avionics guy is cool with it, have him wire in the audio entertainment aux port into a non-funtioning audio button. My DME audio button has been renamed "Da Music/Entertainment button". The nice part is my music doesn't cut out when myself or ATC transmits. And if things get too hectic with audio overload, I simply deselect the DME button. Works great! I have the Garmin 340 btw. I love it.
  8. Hmmm, that's a first for me. Above post was mine. Sorry Byron!
  9. Yep I wrote them down backwards alright. 30 degrees CHT sounds much better doesn't it?
  10. Hmmmm??? That makes way too much sense. I have GAMI's but no fuel flow on the JPI so no GAMI spread. Thanks for the insight Cruiser!
  11. I've been watching my #2 cylinder on my IO-360 using my JPI. It's shows a differential at cruise of 70 degrees CHT. The EGT is about 30 degrees cooler. In climb, with cowl flaps open, all temps are relatively even. It's just at cruise where I see the differential. Today at 5500' and 50 degrees LOP I recorded the following: 1) 1390/368 2) 1373/338 3) 1428/371 4) 1400/366 Look normal to you? I realize #2 is up front and should be cooler, but the lower EGT has me concerned and a normal CHT differential would be 25-45. 70 seems a bit high. I'm hoping it's something minor like a cowl flap adjustment or a small baffle leak. Any ideas?
  12. I live in Minneapolis but our lake house is in Eagle River. I'm up there at least one week each month. Come out to KEGV on 6/18 for the fly-in. Lot's of demonstration acts and static displays. My Mooney (and I know of two others there) will be on the ramp. I'll give you a tour.
  13. Quote: Mooney1401 Did not know I had to take the cowls off thought I could just go in from the front lens. Will read up on the procedure tonight and tackle it tomorrow. Took your advise and went with the GE
  14. Replacing your landing light on a J is a pain in the butt. To me, the cost of the GE 4522 of $33 is nothing compared to the time and work of taking off both top and bottom cowlings and and replacing the light. The lamp lasts roughly 25 hours. So how often do you use the light? I like to use it frequently even during daylight operations as it provides better anti-collision and visibilty. For that reason I plan to just replace at every other oil change. Rather than when it fails.
  15. I replaced my GE bulb with a Whelen LED and will be switching back. It really doesn't do much other than provide recognition. At night it lights up my prop and about 20' in front of me. I do not feel comofrtable landing at night with it. My runway in Northern WI has numerous deer and other wildlife and 20' visibility and 70 KIAS scares me. However, it's suppsed to last forever.
  16. Here's my Mooney parked next to Ted Turner's little airplane. We used to be hangar mates
  17. Yea they were all metal.
  18. Everyone asks me what I plan to do when/if my iPad overheats or fails in flight (which has never happened btw). My simple answer? Use my iPhone. Looks like a lot of wasted space and dead trees to me.
  19. Yep. Thats them! They looked and sounded great. What a fun toy.
  20. I think i just posted some pictures of them. I was at my airport when I saw one landing.. I went over to the hanger to investigate the Mini Mooney and met Robert..He just put them both up for sale. One was a 1956 I believe and the other 1949??? Both Oshkosh winners. Really cool to see up close. Crystal Airport, MN, KMIC
