  1. So I always hear the 201 is faster than a 231 at lower altitudes with the usual consensus that a 201 will outrun a 231 below either 8,000 or 10,000, depending on whose telling the tale... i have a bit of time in a few 201s and have owned a 231 for about 4 years. The 201s I’ve flown do between 155 and 160 kt tas at around 8k, slowing a bit the lower and higher you go. My 231 does about 166kt at 8k, slowing a bit the lower I go and of course speed as I climb. around 5,500 I do just under 160kt. what do others see with their 201s and 231s? What is your speed at 5,500, pwr setting and fuel flow? here is 5,500/28”/2500/12.7 fuel and 3500/25.3”/2500/10.3fuel sorry abiut the sideways pictures... @marauder can You fix that?
  2. Yep that’s them. You think only a dozen? Could be...I’m not sure. They had how many initially, like 80? They did a fairly recent “modernization” of them, but they’re probably having to cannibalize lots of part so yeah probably less than 60. We scrapped ours , with few to museums, I think specifically so Iran couldn’t get parts for theirs.
  3. I think there are about 60 of them flying still
  4. I’ve seen a couple of mentions of July 6th. I dont think there will be much hotel availability, if you’re gonna do an overnight. Or really expensive at least...
  5. They’re doing my k too. Are you going through Falcon?
  6. My mechanic does the credit card fee...I don’t like it but he charges what the card processor charges him. It’s fair, otherwise he would eat that cost and they’re not working on tons of profit margin
  7. Real numbers/12.7 gph 12500 - 172kt 15000 - 175 18000 - 178 21000 - 180 climb rates: above 12000 ~ 600 fpm 231s are great planes. Get one with an inter cooler
  8. Mine was overhauled in 2014 so probably not original.
  9. Yeah my cylinder drains were good, just needed the fuel line and plugs.
  10. Just had the SB for the primer diverter done on my TSIO 360. Took a couple months to get the back ordered parts, 2 plugs and a fuel line. Install was about an hour.
  11. What is NIB? I might be interested, do you have a part number?
  12. Does anyone know where to find specs/measurements to adjust the inner gear doors on a 231? Thanks!
  13. Had the Merlyn upper deck controller installed today at Topgun in Stockton. Went well, looks good. Merlyn estimated 10-12 hours for install. Called Topgun and the owner Mark estimated it would take 4 - 5 hours, making it possible to be done in a day. Bryan worked on it and did a great job. Total time? 4.8 hours! Pretty good estimate and done in way less time than Merlyn estimated. Haven’t always had good luck with shops getting things done close to their estimates, so this was a nice change. Plus, due to weather I had to reschedule a couple times and they were VERY accommodating. I was happy with Topgun today.
  14. I thought of that too, seems like a good idea. Surprisingly they don’t have pre-heat. Back-up plan was an extension chord for my homemade preheated system. I don’t have tannis. That’s what I ended up doing.
  15. Anyone know of anywhere that might have hangar availability for this Saturday to Monday at Eagle County, Colorado? The FBO wants $165 per night, which seems a bit pricey. It's going to get very cold overnight so hopefully I can put it inside. Thanks John
  16. I saw a video from the guy doing most of the test flying in it. Performance is pretty marginal. Climb rate is poor and so is cruise speed. Like c-150 rates or worse. I’d hate to see the specs with one engine out
  17. I don't know about the yokes, done by someone before me...
  18. No Merlyn yet, but I have the intercooler. I use those power settings but I do 125 deg rich of peak in cruise... That is usually around 1530 on TIT.
