  1. Transitioning from cherokee 180 to mooney TLS m20m any recommendations for training?

I just did an annual on a PA-28-180.

The Mooney is a much higher strung plane than the Cherokee. Your biggest thing to get used to is how slick the Mooney is. Mooney's don't like to slow down or come down. It takes a lot more planning. With the Cherokee, you pull the power and throw out the flaps and it comes down like a brick. Not so with the Mooney. It just keeps on going. Just practice your pattern work and don't land too fast. Also practice go arounds and (dare I say!) touch and gos. There is a bit more technique than with most planes.

Just take it slowly and wait to take off the training wheels till you feel confidant you will get there. You have a great airplane.

  3. I finally have the plane flying hands off - it WAS the differential flap trail causing the roll - flying hands off now. Took 4 test flight /adjustments to dial it in. Still cruising with ball showing slight Left slip in cruise flight.

Question: If I jack the aircraft level with the ball centered, and prove the floor / instrument panel is "level" by measurement to begin. Because the ailerons are linked to the rudder via springs, if I bias the rudder to apply Left rudder pressure with the rudder heim joint, should that "fix" my caddywumpus cruise flight? Or will it just make my rudder pedals not line up?

    Thanks, Richard

Like all the other controls, you center them by trimming them. if the rudder is off in cruise, you need to trim it by bending the trailing edge. Before you do that, make sure your bubble is leveled. Level the plane by putting a level on the seat rails and using diferential tire pressure (or jacks) to get it level. Then adjust the instrument for centered ball. The turn coordinator usually has slots for mounting holes.

  4. Good evening....

Read one of your past posts and you mentioned having the nose landing gear compression tool for the puck replacement. Wondered if you would consider loaning or renting out. Currently changing the pucks in my C model. I work in Chandler and hanger my plane out at Glendale.

    Best regards,

    Mike

Sure, I’ll let someone local use them.

Right now they are loaned out to someone else. I’ll try to get them back.

  6. Any recommendations for a 1986 Mooney 252 prebuy in either Tucson or PHX area? Thanks

Well, there is Frank at Chandler Aviation. He is an MSC. There is Troy at AVQ Tucson Air Center. Not an MSC, but  knows about Mooneys. I could do it except my hangar has an engineless Mooney in it that can’t be moved easily. If you can’t find anyone, let me know and I’ll find a space.

  7. Good Morning,

I can do the ferry flight for you.

I ferried Eric J's airplane from Phoenix to Maxwells. AOPA paid for that trip. I also ferried Ragedracer's plane from Sacramento to Phoenix.

I have an ATP with 4500 hours in Mooney's

Let me know if I can help.

  8. Hi Darrell,

I just looked up the registration for my old plane and you own it!

I loved that plane, I see you are flying it, It is great to see it back in the air. I sold it to John Bond in '03 and I know he didn't fly it that much. I owned that plane from 7-84 until '03.
