  1. Fan belt??? Just not as easy as the automotive equivalent.... The fan has to be removed first. I have seen a couple of Mooneys with an extra one safety tied in place ready to go in the event... Thanks to polymer improvements, this probably isn't done anymore. Best regards, -a-
  2. More power is good.... Until the gas bill cometh. Byron, does the increased timing improve overall efficiency of the conversion of old dinosaurs? Best regards, -a-
  3. Sorry Dan, My bad... It seems that my memory challenges are leading me to do strange things. Like attribute responses incorrectly and seek the purchase of a GPSS unit. Fortunately for me, as Byron pointed out, the KLN90B is capable of connecting to a GPSS. Thanks guys for the approved strategy for improving my GPS situation. Sorry Jimmy, I didn't mean to distract your original post. But, Do you have any extra GPSS units laying around that I might be able to help you out with? Note: Jimmy is a wonderful individual to do business with, if the opportunity comes your way.... Back to researching GPSSs... Best regards, -a- :-)
  4. DanB, It's like using a VOR and DME only easier. If you drive the AP with it, it's nice and smooth. It loads complete IFR procedures and plots the waypoints on the screen. It can memorize several flight plans, do nearest, full database. It was considered modern technology until Garmin went WAAS. Overall it's a nice device if you don't have one. Jimmy's price is pretty good too. Keep in mind, I have purchased my KLN90B from Jimmy before, it was attached to a few other things as well! Best regards, -a-
  5. Quote: rob Its sort of funny to me how much redundancy some of you can't live without given that you only have one motor. My C is equipped with a 430W/SL30/Aera560/Aspen Pro1000 and an STEC-30. I have a single transponder, a UBG-16, generator w/ solid state voltage regulator, and a vacuum driven backup AI. I would be comfortable flying with less if need be, but I'm quite happy with what I have and feel that all the reasonable bases are covered and that I could survive failure of multiple systems due to the way I have outfitted my airplane. I'm not scared of carb ice, as a previous poster mentioned, it's something you manage, not a deal breaker. And yes, I have encountered it in my Mooney. It was mostly a non-event with the exception of the first few seconds of "WTH?"
  6. Nice entry level into the mooney world. Instruments and radio are updated in some places and the engine is low time... Much nicer than my C was when I bought it. Good luck with the sale. best regards, -a-
  7. I agree about the prettiness, I used one for IFR training for some basic navigation. What the students did to it though was impressive... It looks like a touch screen, but it isn't. The students crushed the screen in certain spots until they realize that it's not a touch screen. That could be expensive and annoying... I am looking forward to a waas upgrade.... Best regards, -a-
  8. DanB, Kln90b is approach certified, but no Waas... Database updates are an arm and a leg, or just an arm if you can upload them from an old PC... Did I miss something? Best regards, -a-
  9. Craig, Your the best! I have read every post, some of them were more challenging than others... Best regards, -a-
  10. So the next step is... (1) Call Signature again, armed with all this info, and see what they will cover. They might surprise with good will? (2) Write a factual follow-up: Glowing if they cover all the costs. Dastardly, if they give no response, middle of the road if they meet some of the costs. Keeping score...at Mooneyspace. Pro Signature + 2 Anti Signature -1 In comparison... Pro (that guy in Florida) +2 Anti (that same guy in Florida) 99 (estimate) Anti Nantucket.... NO SERVICES. That was expensive and outside the control of Signature. Aviation life jackets are expensive. Fuel, if you bought any, would be surprising. Lessons learned... Don't breakdown, and if you do, do it at home... Share what you learned, but be factual about your experience. 1 bad review is only a single point of view. 99 (estimate) is a lot more points of view.... You all know that guy , right...? So T, How was Nantucket? $400 worth of comfy life jackets and an expensive cab ride has kept me from trying. I used to go by boat twice per year... JG Did you mean "not allowed"? Thank you everyone..., I learned a ton of things here, that I couldn't learn in flight training. Thanks to all the lawyers for your open sharing. Thank you to the service guys for defending this fabulous country and the freedoms that it provides. Best regards, -a-
  11. John, I would understand better, if I were a lawyer, but I'm not... Tbrickey has been here for a while, he's not selling anything, he seems to be reciting the facts as he knows them. Sharing his misfortune with the mooney community. What should he have done? Left the names out? I'm only an engineer... Best regards, -a-
  12. Nice details, Thanks Tim. Does it make sence to measure resistance of the plugs at annual? Best regards, -a-
  13. Screaming eagle with autopilot can be upgraded with a minimal paint addition and new IFD540 (or something like that). Then check the price against an Ovation... Wouldn't want to keep the original derated HP and small tanks... My two cents. -a-
  14. Check for cracks on the filler plates eminating from the screw holes. This happened on my M20C. Stainless screws help from letting things get buggered.. I think they got replaced after 35 years... Best regards, -a-
  15. For personal flying, not business critical... (1) Fuel injection to avoid carb ice. (2) VOR/ILS capable nav. (3) GPS, WAAS preferred. (4) lightning detection for Weather avoidance (5) iPad for charts and on board weather. (6) back-up vac system or other independent method for keeping the shiney side up. That was my direction when searching for a plane... For business critical, add turbo and ice protection... Best regards, -a-

    Family Trip

Hank, 26N - Ocean City, NJ Airport is on the bay side of the island. Ocean beaches are few city blocks walking distances. Board walk a couple miles long. No alcohol sold in town, BYOB. The 20+ crowd favors the bar scene further north. Good family atmosphere. My second job will be selling/servicing Mooneys, and Ocean City, NJ!!! I need the MRS to begin flight training.... Best regards :-) , -a-

    Family Trip

Nice idea guys.... I started with a nice M20C... Then for her... She started with a pinch hitter's course years ago. Followed it up with an IFR rating so we could get back home safely. Followed that up with a Mooney with an IFR panel and a handfull of back-up instruments and systems. Now, She sends me a weekly update on the real estate market within walking distance to the airport closest to the beach. It's not quite Occeanno, but similar... I'm going to need another job, not a different one but, a completely new second job. Be careful with what you ask for. Where's that smiley??? Best regards...., -a-
  18. Jimmy, Any ideas on the benefit of the kln 94 over my current kln 90b? Such as vertical guidance during IFR approaches. Otherwise the color screen looks nice. Thanks. Best regards, -a-
  19. +1 for the AirTex solution. The new carpet look was better than the original potato sack look. Not very expensive either. New carpets and lower side wall too. This was done a decade ago for my 65C... All in FAA compliant materials. -a-
