Depending on how deep you want to go on the power supply... Using a BatteryMinder is a popular device for all things Concorde battery related... If only using a battery charger, running your full electronics suite may slowly drain the battery.... Did you get a pair of Concordes with that? Best regards, -a-

Way cool Shawn! Next time... the video has to include a little more of the JPI... a 252 at altitude is a thing to behold... skipping engine details can leave a viewer hungry... Best regards, -a-

Plane Power Alternator Acting up
carusoam replied to Rspencer612's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
This could be a really quick test to find out where the voltage isn’t meeting expectations... But, the level of detail regarding what voltage you are seeing under what conditions indicates you may not be the mechanic... Not being a mechanic... remember working around moving props can be extra dangerous... Best regards, -a- -
Plane Power Alternator Acting up
carusoam replied to Rspencer612's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
Before going to hard looking... Start with the easy stuff... Wait a minute.... weren’t we discussing looking for resistance added in already? Time to find what is causing the odd resistance... Start with the alternator output... see what it is sending out... (get mechanic to help) Hey... wait another minute there.... Check what the battery resting voltage is... ( Is this the 12.8V you are referring to?) Clean and ‘grease’ All the main connections... You should be seeing near 14v while the engine is running with decent rpm... (run-up) Expect to see corrosion on connections that aren’t working very well. If you don’t see corrosion, it may be time to clean them anyways... Always consult a mechanic for this type of work... PP thoughts only, not a mechanic... Best regards, -a- -
Welcome aboard auwde, The search function will really help you with the obvious questions... When it comes to LLCs... Of you are familiar with them, you already know their short comings... There is no magic bullet for protection. In the end, it is a personal decision that requires personal knowledge... We have a really good insurance guy around here... PP thoughts only, not a lawyer... The blue box is an auto message sender... (message sent already) ... and with Kortopates and PT20J ringing in... you have gotten some pretty solid answers... -a- -
Shunt Location 1984 M20J s/n1442
carusoam replied to Speed Merchant's topic in Modern Mooney Discussion
Hey Curt, I would expect on the firewall... with two large wires going to and from it.... and a pair of ammeter wires as well... Let’s ask @M20Doc (location of the shunt for an 84J) Best regards, -a- -
Things changed between the print date of the Owners Manual and the final range setting.... Where to look up the details... We could ask, our prop guy... my 65C tach had a red line added to the exterior of the instrument... PP thoughts only, not an instrument guy... Best regards, -a-

Plane Power Alternator Acting up
carusoam replied to Rspencer612's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
Great follow-up with pics, RS! Check that wire, end to end prior to re-use... In the event of high resistance down stream.... something was making the electrons want to jump... PP thoughts only, not a mechanic... Best regards, -a- -
late summary... 1) +1 on harmonics... you will never feel it... 2) +1 on transition... take your time moving through it... don’t leave it there. 3) Make sure it still applies... if it is the same engine and prop that came with the plane, it still applies... 4) If you got a different prop... it may have a different range or it got eliminated.... 5) Some ranges changed over the years... my 65C got a new range to avoid somewhere along the way.... In the end... my engine mount broke a pair of welds on the bottom of one of the legs... possibly a result of that range...? PP thoughts only, not a mechanic... Best regards, -a-

Fantastic! Good to see all the various screens going into Mooneys. We have at least four Dynon equipped Mooneys around here.... NJ, TX, FL and CA... Best regards, -a-

The surrounding stainless steel structure indicates that it is a Fiki installation... Expect that the stall warning vane is heated.... Because stalling in icing conditions has the same results as stalling in beautiful VMC... Why go Fiki, and not heat the stall vane? Best regards, -a-

V1, expect the limitations for the mechanically driven AC units are for T/O reasons only... This way when you do your T/O calculations, they match your reality, no matter how much power your AC is trying to sap.... The whole purpose for AC... is 90% while on the ground, and 10% while climbing to altitude.... PP thoughts only, -a-

Hey Walter! Your timing is impeccable... thanks for the answers regarding AC. Best regards, -a-

Engine stutter when throttle is applied
carusoam replied to flyingchump's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
Great follow up, Chump. Focus on the proper fix... RTV doesn’t sound like a good idea.... If the proper fix doesn’t work, something else is out of place... If you can’t get the proper fix... post some pics of what you have... Check in with @Alan Fox he had a few intake ‘Ducts’ (?) available... It could be just the words we are using today making things confusing... Best regards, -a- -
Nice work, Fry! There are so many variations involved with Mooney flying... Most of mine were the two vs. four people variety... (always the same people) Then how much fuel to bring... (always the same MGTW) Then I also had the same short runway calculation.... (Always 5B6, 2300’) The only thing that comforts speeding on the ground while looking at trees, at 65kias... Is... Having the calculations done... Thanks for sharing how you get it done. Best regards, -a-

Great shared experience, Nuke! Two things that are a challenge to practice... 1) Vac pump failure... recognizing it is a challenge... (Pilot experience helps recognize bad data, not thinking it is a bad pilot) Doing something about it is a challenge.... (Find the failed instrument, then use what’s left) Not reverting back to the dead instrument is a challenge... (post its and other instrument covers) 2) Failed turbo systems... There is no switch for these things either... PP thoughts only, not a CFI... Best regards, -a-

Doc has the aerobatic version.... Al was busy on two fronts... speed and efficiency... Brand P selected speed only... Laminar flow wing and way more HP... Rocket Engineering took that theory to the next level... P46T -a- This is modern art... -
we could be fair... MS had two of the last three M20Ds left on stiff legs And fixed pitch... -a-

Mag timing procedure with 25 deg impulse coupling?
carusoam replied to FlyBoyM20J's topic in Modern Mooney Discussion
Great detail sharing Gents..! MSers really know their stuff. Best regards, -a- -
Advantage of FI... Four independent (adjustable) deliverers of fuel... Obejctive: perfection of F:A ratio..... Very few carbs left in the automotive world... for essentially the same reason. Carbs work amazingly well. Don’t discount them accidentally... FI costs more to buy... The advantage comes out when operating LOP, smoothly... Best regards, -a-

Mag timing procedure with 25 deg impulse coupling?
carusoam replied to FlyBoyM20J's topic in Modern Mooney Discussion
If not familiar... The baby food jar test... four glass containers, identical in shape and size.... used to collect fuel samples from the four fuel lines over a period of time... with and without injectors on the lines... You might find an oddity to fuel flow doing this test... The test will ferret out flow issues from the fuel divider and/or blocked fuel injectors... A great time to use Hopp’s #9 for injector cleaning... PP thoughts only, not a mechanic... Best regards, -a-
