  1. I must have fell asleep at the switch... The D3 IS the new one... Watch how quick I can edit my posts.... Best regards, -a-
  2. Summary... 1) Back-up device... not a panel OH... 2) Garmin has two devices G5, GI275 one may even work with your AP.... 3) Dynon D3... 4) Old Aspens have hit the market lately... 5) RCA digital devices 2600 series... 6) Life saver battery powered Dino Gyro.... Things that won’t work for Seth... 7) Anything Uavionics... unless, just used as a tie breaker... (not ready for prime time) 8) Anything that requires assembly before use... or can become un-assembled during descent in the bumps... Friends don’t let friends fly in IMC with improper equipment... FOMAF... Fear of missing a friend... PP Summary only, stuff I read in this thread... Best regards, -a-
  3. Erik hit on the topic of speed range... It is difficult to spread stall speed far away from cruise speed... So a slow stall speed, makes a slow cruise speed... Somebody also mentioned Brand B for their UL... at the cost of cruise speed... Now if we improved our flap design and construction to lower stall speed... We may incur an unaffordable cost... We would need to ask our aero guys... Best regards, -a-
  4. 1) buy from a known entity... 2) knowing the last owner is the best resource... 3) A solid Pre-purchase inspection... is imperfect, but is the best for knowing about what you are about to buy... 4) Buy a plane that has everything you want in it already... 5) Installing new stuff cost as much as whatever the device cost... 6) Transition Training is important... 7) Certain things are not always self teachable... 8) Avoid buying the bottom rung of each of the Mooney ladders... A mid priced F will be better than a low priced J... 9) The bottom rung of each ladder will need lots of expensive updating... 10) have no fear, keep both eyes open, move forwards with alacrity... knowledge kills fear... See what Don / @hammdo thinks... since we are in his thread... PP thoughts only, not a plane sales guy... Best regards, -a-
  5. Matt, One important place to look, for the J... There is a ‘rubber’’ fuel hose related to the fuel injection system that has been known to have the inner surface stuff off... Sounds like you may want to look into that... It has been detailed around here before. Let us know if you need help finding the details... Frequent blocking of FIs is not normal... Best regards, -a-
  6. Excellent follow-up Matt! Since this thread there may have been one or two cowling related vibration issues... One turned out to be foam insulation missing from gear doors for an Acclaim... The other one just got underway at problem solving... Small things seem to make it possible to allow a vibration... wear, enlarged holes, missing foam... Best regards, -a-
  7. Wait a minute... I thought it was weight that affected the AOA causing more drag... Its a plain issue for planes... MS... improving spelling daily... Best regards, -a-
  8. If you want to pursue asking somebody at Mooney... Start with a guy named Stacy... he knows how every system in the factory works... He kept the doors open back in 08 and 09... Reportedly, he is still there... He may actually be the spare parts guy... Best regards, -a-
  9. Peter, What do you fly the O2 for? Carrying a big baggage load, or the extra 20kias? Just wondering... Best regards, -a-
  10. Did you try Century? https://www.centuryflight.com It is possible they are unlike BK... BK made it so people were interested in swapping out the over the counter micro switches, that were hidden inside... Best regards, -a-
  11. Masks won’t be very sound resistant... And for the most part, won’t get in the way of the headset either... So... Mr. Rabbit, did I miss something you were asking about? Could be problematic If you have an interesting order of putting everything on and taking off the mask in flight... Covid testing is happening quickly now-a-days... test and receive results in the same day... The college kids are getting screened as they get to school this week... Best regards, -a-
  12. Bummer... Probably a toss-up of clean vs. toss... the tube plumbing isn’t very expensive... Installing the new stuff is a simple chem lab construction type of effort... The expensive part is removing all the interior panels it is hiding behind... There wouldn’t be many forces that would typically draw contaminants very far... Each time the plane would climb and descend air would enter and leave through the opening.... It is quite possible blowing air in from upstream... you could catch anything that climbed inside... as it escapes.... Use caution to see if there are any devices attached to the system that would be sensitive to your air pressure experiments.... There are O2 system suppliers that have customer service entities... it may be interesting to see what info they have regarding system cleaning... dos and don’ts.... There are a few threads around here discussing finding leaks and replacing parts... but it isn’t an everyday kind of occurrence... PP thoughts only, not a mechanic... Best regards, -a-
  13. X, See if you can verify your description... Of the three parts... What is known to be clean, known to be dirty, and which ones are unknown... 1) The old tank is on its way out.... if dirty, no big deal..... 2) The lines to the cabin.... hopefully clean... if they need to be cleaned... expect removal prior to cleaning.... 3) The lines used to fill the tank... much shorter and less sensitive to clean in place.... +1 on avoiding grease, oil, and O2... putting them under pressure only makes the reaction faster... PP thoughts only, not a mechanic... Best regards, -a-
  14. There is probably a way to look up engine issues as they get recorded... They don’t necessarily need to cause an accident... If they become a significant issue... the AD system has a way of notifying owners... PP thoughts only, not a mechanic... Best regards, -a-
  15. Looks like the right side rudder pedal box may have Been modified already.... slightly... Best regards, -a-
  16. Interesting how the year became included in the S/N in 66... And fell back out of the numbering system in 71... There are a few Mooneys that were built in the style of one year, but got completed months earlier... And others that were started in one year... and finished their test mule status the following year... Best regards, -a-
  17. Interesting that you can see a difference to vs. from the station... There is a tail that may be throwing a shadow between the station and the antenna... I don’t think I know of this shadow effect being very noticeable normally.... I stopped using my nav radios for long distances after I found them following the scalloped lines with precision... where the GPS does a very good job flying the magenta line... Got any pics of your antenna and your tail? Or know which antenna you have? I think we have a choice of three... V towl bar blade PP thoughts only, not a CFI.... Best regards, -a-
  18. Hey Sharon! Let’s see if @EchoMax is around... (invite to join the conversation) He had stopped by MS a few hours ago... Best regards, -a-
  19. As the creator of the thread... there is an edit button, and a delete button... Hard to find on all the threads you don’t initiate... Best regards, -a-
  20. I can’t think of a better answer to the where and when question.... And I grabbed this one by the tail... -a-
  21. Signs of a forever-plane in the works... Best regards, -a-
  22. Great question with pics... Lets see if our weather guy has any insight for variations between reality and ADSB displayed... @Scott Dennstaedt Tim, Where and when is the data coming from? Best regards, -a-
  23. With all the GFC conversions going on... you might see prices of the old APs being sold around here... The cost of installation keeps their prices a bit low... Lots of interest for spare parts seekers, but... there is a limit to their un-overhauled value... Important to note how many hours are on each piece... Best regards, -a-
