  1. These days, @PeteMc, you could probably talk your way in as a pilot . . . . Seems a lot of men are winning women's competitions nowadays.
  2. Haven't had an annual there, but he has done a great job for me on other things (nose gear repair, rigging, etc.).
  3. My door strap is made from seat fabric . . . Looks like it is maybe rolled and sewn together. The interior was redone several years before I bought it in 2007, still going strong. But leather is nice, too. I'm playing with some now for other things, may check into replacing the door pull and the strap in front of it.
  4. I'd love to fund an $1100 annual! When nothing is wrong, defective or broken, my C runs about $1800. A "bad" annual can be four times that . . . . Using the list from Mooney's website, 20-24 hours are required. What’s your A&P's hourly rate? Do the math, bump it up a little for things that go wrong.
  5. @Dtips, don't try to do it all step-by-step. This calls for a shotgun approach. work through whatever your medical issues are get with a CFI and get back in the air, but no solo flight without the medical look for that perfect Mooney put your name on the hangar list at your airport, and some surrounding ones when your 3rd Class is issued, go full speed to complete your PPL. But you'll still have time to search the Net and talk to fellow pilots and look for "your" Mooney. Question: how long ago were you originally a student? Did you have a 3rd Class then? Sounds like you did. My memory is a little hazy, but there's a date for Basic Med that says you needed to have a valid [no yet expired] Medical of any class by a particular date, maybe July 2007 or some such. Find that date and see if your previous medical was valid then. Once you are in the air with a medical, don't renew it but go to Basic Med. The AOPA website has all the details, available free without even membership. For now, add this as a research item: 1) finish up current medical situation. You can't go Basic Med with a medical submitted and not approved; 2) look around for a good plane; 3) find out all about Basic Med; 4) get on hangar waiting lists. And don't forget to have fun while doing all of this! After working all day, of course . . . .
  6. Dear God! The instruction book for ForeFlight is at least 777 pages long??? That's six of my Mooney's Owner's Manual!!! Who has ever read the whole thing? No one, I bet . . . . .
  7. That would help move my CG towards the tail, but it's not approved. . . . The capacity loss is bad news. But taking 20 lbs off the firewall would be nice! That's half the penalty for that 3-blade Hartzell prop.
  8. @thevaliant, please reread the enumerated list above. @carusoam is a veritable font of information. It's good to see you again, Anthony, helping the new guys along!
  9. At least i no longer have to keep up with the red board, the blue board and the purple board, or which color is which group. I just come here!
  10. Come see us in Alabama! Bring a fishing pole. Or I can build a fly rod for you (the best fishing, and they go so well with airplanes!
  11. My primary CFI told me to put something in the doorway to prevent it from closing again. Anything you can reach--jacket, towel, flight bag, etc. Just not a seat belt or passenger hand . . . .
  12. Gas tax funding is going down, electric cars don't pay taxes on the gas they don't use. Also, Kalifornia is busy giving money hand over fist to illegal aliens, and ignoring the citizens from whom the money is taken . . . .
  13. I used to live in Dalton. It was a fun place! Even took a few lessons there, in a Beech Skipper, which reminded me of an old VW Beetle at the time . . . .
  14. I've recently discovered that my 1970 C has a (burned out) baggage light. I have not yet replaced the bulb . . . .
  15. That's my situation, but I haven't heard from Avidyne in quite a while.
  16. Leave the belly strobe switched on all the time, then it will go on and off with the master switch. It's noticeable when the hangar light is turned off, and it is also noticeable if you glance back when walking away parked on the ramp.
  17. Just make sure you get the right year. There were lots of changes in '69, beginning with 6-pack panel and throttle quadrant, probably some speed changes for flaps and gear.
  18. Because sometimes you do.
  19. Yeah, me too, but it's not from getting old--I prefer living in the country. Driving across Atlanta is more big city headaches than I care to deal with, and it always makes me happy that I don't live somewhere like that!! The second one is backup, in case the primary has a problem. But blocking the entire ramp is just downright rude! Freaking @ssholes!!
  20. Yes, it's supposed to do that. Really impressed my CFII when taking lessons. I never said anything . . . .
  21. Most of them are in fuel clubs, with significant discounts (I've seen FBO signs advertising 40-50% off for members), but they're Jet-A only.
  22. I have an IVSI that failed due to leaks. Gotta get it fixed and put back in. After 15 years, I can't go back to a regular VSI . . . . Guess I've been spoiled, but it's doggone nice!
  23. Gen Z doesn't need to buy a car, buy gas, buy insurance and do maintenance, because they have people (you) to drive them around.
  24. Usually only affects flight schools, flightseeing and "non-scheduled" GA flights like ours . . . . Airlines just go right on flying.
